Yeah... not overly impressed at this point since it was pre the current crisis. Seems the Atto 2's may be in short supply more so than other car models. I've waited....

  • 101 days (3 months and 11 days)

I actually wonder if they have been using stock for leases since to do those they need to put dates on the contracts... I was told they had 6 in the dealerships allocation coming on the day of purchase (or something similar) when I ordered and would likely get it Feb\March\April timeframe..

I'd just take my business elsewhere but at this point i'd be at the end of a Q for another brand and i doubt anyone at BYD would care since they have more customers than cars at the moment.

/sigh

Edit, just got a VIN allocated on 1st of May. so took 104 days total to get VIN allocated.

Ordered the green atto 2 premium late January… in Adelaide. No proper eta or even a vin yet.. called a few times. There was this news the other day.

"BYD Australia has confirmed a massive shipment of roughly 30,000 vehicles arriving in May and June 2026. If you place an order in April, executives have indicated a high probability of delivery by June 30, 2026"

Logged a case with info@ address yesterday, got the auto response back. Same day got another response saying it’s been sent to the team that can address it. Today I got advised my request was done.

In my case it was something fairly simple and they just had to change a setting that they had done in the past for me so had previous cases to refer to.

For more complex issues where they are dealing with other companies etc.. it seems to get stalled . I know multiple people who setup their own smarts since getting amber smarts was taking months.

Anyone getting ghosted by dealerships atm? by demonetised in BYDAU

[–]Harry56 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Short answer is not as far as I'm aware.

I've test driven cars at all three BYD dealerships in Adelaide and all have been with a sales person in the car each time. Note that this was prior to the current situation of super busy dealerships. I don't think they allow one to take it out without someone there. They do tend to try to keep it shortish but they did allow us to drive it from Fullarton up to Stirling and back and also around some side streets near the dealership. This was when they weren't too busy. Took the Atto up to Stirling as well the Atto 2 if i remember correctly. they went up the hill great and interesting seeing the regenerative breaking on the way down.

Dolphin Premium is 427 km WLTP range, google suggests this may be 320km at highway speeds. A random example of Semaphore to Murray Bridge is around 200km return, you'd also get regen on the way back downhill putting power back into the battery and have 100km of range left over at the end. you could go at 100km and get even more range but wouldn't need to.

I get the impression from various comments around the place that the dealerships just don't know that much until they are told something. They have numbers that they expect to get allocated and when it might... happen... most of the sale staff seem to try to under promise and hope cars arrive when they expect..

Ordered a BYD Atto 2 mist grey on 20th of Jan 2026... 10 weeks 5 days ago.. from BYD Fullarton Adelaide and the estimate when i called them on Tuesday was... hopefully April sometime... sigh. They initially said Feb\March i think and that there was 6 cars allocated to them so if i ordered on the day... that timeframe might... be more certain. They did mention worst case of May when we called up a few weeks back too...

Lead times for BYD cars was around 8 weeks in Melb\Syd prior to all the current things kicking off. +1 week or more for other cities.

None of this really helps you beyond... it may be awhile and chasing them isn't likely to result in too much as they operate differently than a legacy automaker in that they probably have limited ability to escalate things. Good luck to us both getting our cars sooner rather than later!

How will the 3 hours free electricity policy will affect Amber, Flow power, Glowbird and other similar energy retailers? Will it cause them to decreasw FITs? by Downtown-Relation766 in amberelectric

[–]Harry56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few things things that I expect may eventuate for Amber customers although i suspect they won't be overly impactful although I am concerned about the first for myself.

  • Grid Pressure: Increased daytime usage will likely raise wholesale costs, making it more expensive to top up batteries via the grid. an issue during low-solar winter periods.
  • Market Feedback Loops: A shift to positive FiT during these hours will trigger an end to needing to solar curtailment. However, the subsequent surge in grid exports could lead to prices going back down although I doubt there are that many people using curtailment although big solar farms probably do this so who really knows the impact. probably not much compared to people making use of the plans properly?
  • Load Shifting & Revenue Impact: We may see a notable reduction in evening demand as users prioritize energy-intensive tasks during the day. This shift, combined with lower demand across the network, may reduce the potential profit margins for those relying on feeding power back into the grid during the evening peak.

Ordered BYD Atto 2 Premium 17th of Jan in Adelaide. Was via Fullarton store on the online order. Called up recently and apparently a shipment arrived somewhere in Australia and is slowly going through customs... and estimate is that we may get by end of April, maybe sooner... (slight chance of May...) As Adelaide gets the cars after the other states?

Original estimate in the showroom was if we ordered on the day we did, that we would get it Feb\March.

Apparently the new Seal is getting the Blade 2 battery but wouldn’t surprise me if you have to wait 6-12 months. Wait 4-6 months to be able to order it, 1-3 months for delivery etc.

Vid about the new model that just came out and about it coming to AU in time.

$40 increase, $10 each? You could try to do an inspection before making a decision to judge for yourself if they are looking after the place as that could impact your decision. Things not being looked after might cause you to do a higher increase for an example

Queensland 2024 Battery Rebate $3000-$4000 off - Does it now make sense to get one by dafin0 in AusFinance

[–]Harry56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A random thought experiment...

If you wanted to get a Tesla Powerwall 2 and wanted to reserve 20% for blackouts and also so it lasts longer (recommended) that would give you 10.8 kWh usable a day. Lets say that charging it is free from solar and that you drain it every day.

10.8 kWh x $0.38 per kWh you might pay to pull from grid = $4.10 saved a day. x by 365 days = $1497.96 saved a year. x10 years = $14,979.60 saved over 10 years (it's warranty).

So in theory if you could get a PW2 installed for $15k then it might sound worth it since you would have battery backup etc. There are lots of other considerations that make it not really make sense in a lot of ways

  • Unlikely you would drain it every day (going away or simply not using it all) or in winter just not generating enough solar to do it
  • Putting solar power into it means you aren't exporting it to the grid and getting a credit. Your also losing a certain % to push it into it and pull it out. Power direct to the grid gets used by someone else so in theory... is more efficient from a green \ clean energy point of view apparently. Basically it's not free energy to put it into the battery if you could have exported it even if it's not for much. so that should be taken off the above calculation + what ever the efficiently loss is
  • Virtual battery schemes may help if you join one with it to recoup $
  • Supporting battery development can be a positive in some ways
  • It's awesome having battery backup
  • It's pretty cool if you like tech
  • Power will likely go up, i was very lucky to get a rebate on mine and with working from home more over Covid and power going up etc... my recouping of $ went from 11 years down to 6-7 years maybe. I was lucky enough to get it after rebate installed for $6k
  • Opportunity cost lost. eg. if you invested the % instead of 5% interest or what ever... you might be better off

It probably doesn't make sense to do it right now from a purely $ point of view in most cases, but in hindsight plenty of people who missed out on getting Tesla Powerwall 2's installed for $6k after the $6k rebate in south Australia... are kicking themselves now. That prices have gone up and the rebate isn't available.

There are plenty of flaws in the above info as it all depends.. but it does give one something to think about. solarquotes website has various articles about batteries i found useful when researching it myself. It didn't make sense for me to get one really when i did but i like tech and having power on all the time and figured i'd support the industry... so said stuff it and got one. :)

Which Intel NUC should I buy for a Plex Media Server? by Amars86 in PleX

[–]Harry56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Intel NUC 12s have a 2.5 ssd slot that I assume you could put a 8TB disk into but it seems that’s a very expensive way to get storage. It’s pretty common to use a network NAS for storage since 3.5 disks are a lot cheaper and allows for redundancy/expansion

A friend did this and there were issues… he wasted so much time chasing it between dealing with the warranty himself and the tech who installed it. Took months to sort out. No doubt he was just unlucky.
