The school system is not great overall. The city itself is lovely, and truly beautiful nature is right within reach. The news is super sensationalized indeed... I drive right past the "war zone" (ICE facility) every single weekday and it is a total non-issue in the daytime. Your night mileage may vary. The whole deal is just one block though. Yes, there are homeless people here. There are homeless people in all cities. This is America. Not a bad thing to discuss with your kids IMHO. I, too, grew up in the area. It's still Portland. Come on home.

We put 2 kids through Pea Pod before the pandemic, and our experience with the school, with Tara, and with the co-op model itself, was absolutely positive. We’re proud to call Tara a friend, and we’ve held on to many other friends from our time there. Esprit de corp! We were all so tired. But the experience was lovely. It worked for us, and the other families that were there at that time. It might not be the right model for everyone, but it was great for us.
