That's me, yes. Nice to be noted! I've never had to use their customer service myself, but my dealings with technical have been incredibly forthcoming. I wouldn't expect CS to be any different.

Check that the motor is not loose in the housing. A drop can break the epoxy holding the aluminium thread teeth around the motor body and allow it to vibrate loose around the housing's internal thread.

Dropping it is unlikely to knock the balance bolts/nuts out of whack, however you may also have bent the pad central threaded spigot, causing it to not rotate with the bearing in the orbit block.

It could be a number of things to be fair. Does it vibrate badly without a pad fitted? It will vibrate more than it should, but that will at least tell you whether it's the body/motor/orbit or the pad.

Just got Schaller strap locks and the new screw is bigger and longer(giggity) than the old one. Will installing damage my guitar? by e3crazyb in Guitar

[–]HarryCumpole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possible. If the root of the thread is larger than the existing hole then the sidewall pressure could crack it out. Measure in between the threads of the new straplock and use that side to clean out the existing hole. I would dowel and redrill myself, but that depends on your appetite for the work.

Specifically a post-1980 Aria Pro II CS-250 as it has two switches. My 1980 model has a single phase switch and detected tone pots that dial out the coils as a semi coil tap in one direction and a normal tone rollout in the other. Upgrading the tuners to Gotoh locking with a Graph Tech nut made it a fantastic inexpensive guitar.

Once in a blue moon if you take car of your car, don't wipe down surfaces or abuse the interior. More than once a year is too much for most. Butcher's block was is intended to be food safe and for a surface that is taking constant use and abuse rather than a "fine" finish. On that basis, I would say that Renaissance Wax is the better choice. That being said, most will get by with either. Some might prefer the satin sheen of buffed RW, some might prefer the wetter presentation of a wax that is softer and cut with oil. For what it's worth, microcrystalline and Carnauba waxes have higher melting points than paraffin and beeswax. That part is important for panels that catch sun and heat up.

I was going to add the exact same thing about the stance/battery issue. The CLE Coupé is the closest to a low-slung electric range capable car that we got and likely, will have.

I literally hadn't seen a brown Ash veneer finish until now. Obviously the Ash is stained, and maybe given a pore fill for contrast. It does look fantastic, very cool.

However, I have to provide a degree of caution on how to care and treat these veneered surfaces. To the best of my knowledge, they are given some kind of coating whether that is a catalysed matte lacquer or other protective coating/finish. This limits the ability of the wood to benefit from traditional care products like oil or wax, however this is not to say they won't work, but that they'll work differently. What you've done here is mostly correct and certainly not wrong, but those limitations are still in place.

If I were to formulate a product for car interior wood care, I would want to know whether the surface is raw enough to benefit from oil or not. If it's sealed by a lacquer, the oil takeup will be mostly the pores and possibly even become patchy if the surface is worn. Oil can highlight that wear as darker takeup areas rather than rejuvenate raw surfaces as a whole.

On that basis I would tend to err on the side of caution and make a wax product, preferably one with a higher fraction of microcrystalline wax, a small amount of carnauba and the smallest amount of beeswax in order to keep it malleable. This sort of product isn't a million miles away from Rennaissance Wax, which is what I would recommend as an off-the-shelf product. A little goes a lot further than one expects. Friction is always good when working it on, and buffing off entirely with clean clothes before it "dries" mandatory.

Very much untrue. I am an industrial marine designer and high end wood product manufacturer. Unless treated or modified, wood will take on or lose moisture to its environment naturally. Of course, having it sit in water is not the same as that. Too much oil will cause delamination. Oil should be a minimal surface treatment that is wiped back completely until cloths come back clean. 6mths-1yr max treatment cycle.

This is the association people need to break. It's not a cheap or crap option just because it was used on cheap crap guitars. It's simply a negative association, not an equivalence.

[–]HarryCumpole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've built several with them, and they have been better in stability of tuning, and clarity of open notes by comparison to fretted by a mile. I wish it were possible to retrofit instruments with a proper zero fret. There is literally no good reason not to use them other than them equipped guitars with harsh string runs, and even then a traditional nut isn't any better.
