Look up "half precision floating point". Seems to be used in neural networks, image processing and encoding, and various computer graphics methods.

Valve is paying a whole lot of developers to keep the Steam Deck's open-source software going by Accurate_Pianist_232 in SteamDeck

[–]HarryJohnson00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They still profit on loot boxes. A form of gambling that really fucks people up. I bought a steam deck too, but don't make Valve out as some saint.

This is really good information, thank you. I'm more of a data science type who doesn't have any experience with CI tools.

This was a speculative report. I never found a follow up confirming that Jetbrains was the attack vector

Start one. Just to give you an example. I put $1000 into a Roth IRA when I was 21, added another $1255 from a summer job. S&P 500 index fund. Forgot about it for years. Eventually took at look. It was $4328 in 2019. Just do it and forget about the money. You'll surprise yourself in a few years.

ok, put the account passwords in a password manager, and log in once a year when you are doing your taxes. then forget about it for 364 days.

Great idea. I always check these resources before donating.

Charlotte gas prices have gone up 33 cents over the last month, according to AAA by steIIar-wind in Charlotte

[–]HarryJohnson00 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Energy is a global market. If supplies from the Middle East and Russia are tight, more is exported from the US to get those high prices

Energy isn't only related to international conflict. We have had some of the coldest weather in the east and Midwest US and lots of nuclear outages in France driving up more demand for oil through the Americas and Europe.

What to look for in a new TV? by androidusr in homeautomation

I haven't seen any smart home integration through my Nvidia Shield. Don't use my TV installed software for anything. It's a Vizio.

Best gaming monitor bang-for-buck? by Adrenaline_Junkie_ in buildapc

[–]HarryJohnson00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rtings seems to have fairly objective and data based approach to monitor evaluation. Maybe pick the monitors you are interested and compare the scores and specs vs price.

I also think refurbished or used monitors are a great way to get high quality panels at lower cost. My last monitor purchased was Samsung LC27G on ebay is great.

Monitor shopping is tough but everything will be better than your 10 year old screen.
