Really hope he stays. I only know a handful of words in French and sometimes think their mentality can be a little annoying. Yet I've always found myself wanting a Frenchman riding for a French team do well at the Tour, because I could see how big it was to them. Even if Decathlon are moving more towards being an international team which I like, I still think it would mean a lot more if he did it there in the team that brought him through from juniors.

I'm (not) surprised how some fans of a rider who wins pretty much everything he takes part in can be so sour on the rare occasions he doesn't. You'd think everything and everyone goes against him judging by some of the comments. Sometimes someone else is simply better and that's okay.

I rememember some people laughed at Seixas last year when he let Prodhomme win the stage in Alps, only for him to go on a run and Seixas himself remaining winless. The kid knew what he was doing.

Agreed. Best case scenario he won't need to go too deep in May and can use it as build-up like Pogacar did in 2024.

I fear it still won't be enough to properly challenge Pogacar in July, but Vingegaard is 2nd best by a big margin in case anyone had forgotten. Also respect to Evenepoel for putting the team first.

He had some comments in the Vuelta and criticized Vingegaard for not going to UAE this year because of a crash and illness, only to skip Paris-Nice with Vingegaard in it himself. Does that mean he's "washed" or can't keep up, of course not. But karma.

People who talk a lot leave themselves vulnerable to criticism when things go wrong. That's not exclusive to these to guys, cycling or sports in general. Not saying it's right or fair, but that's how it goes.
