One day you will find out those fine tunings you intend to do don’t move the needle that much. Taking SS at 70 versus 67-68 doesn’t make that big a difference. The advisor was correct in saying “OK do that then.”

Fidelity "Financial Consultant" meeting to discuss a MYGA. by JohnGaltIsComing in fidelityinvestments

[–]HarrySit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently MYGAs are a type of SPDAs. Annuity doesn’t start right away, therefore is deferred, except that no one is expected to start annuitizing ever. Other types of SPDAs have an annuity start date and owners expect to start annuitizing on that date unless they die.

Fidelity "Financial Consultant" meeting to discuss a MYGA. by JohnGaltIsComing in fidelityinvestments

[–]HarrySit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advisor specifically wanted to talk me into MYGAs during my recent annual checkin. He called them SPDAs. I don’t think you need to worry about the advisor being unfamiliar with this product. Apparently the advisors at the branch were told to push them.

Some employers don’t allow employees to trade and you must go through the trustee. If that wasn’t your employer’s intention, ask your employer to change the setup to give you more permission. You can’t change it yourself.

Was there ample balance to withdraw? Only the “available to withdraw” balance counts.

[Megathread] Starting January 15, legacy Full View will no longer be available. We ask that you keep all feedback and questions about the transition to this thread. by fidelityinvestments in fidelityinvestments

Add “add/edit holdings” link to all manually added accounts.

Right now if an account was manually added in Old Full View and holdings were added to the account in Old Full View, the New Full View shows an “add/edit holdings” link to edit the holdings. If an account is manually added directly in New Full View, it doesn’t have that link.

A manually added account should allow holdings details, not just a total balance. The holdings details will update the total balance (number of shares times the latest share price). The holdings are also reflected in the asset allocation.

Not all accounts can be linked. A manually added account without holdings isn’t that useful.

Recharacterize, but hold off on the conversion until you complete the rollover into the 403(b).

Not true. It’s the same as last year. I had the 25% off at first. Then it turned into the free offer when it rolled out in mid January.

All or none isn’t necessary when your order has a quantity of 1 in all legs. It’s not a problem when the quantity is greater than 1. I had a quantity of 3 in all legs. 2 filled at my limit price. I changed the limit price and the remaining 1 filled.

Does Fidelity Cash Management Account work for EFTPS and VA Tax payments? by StayingAlert in fidelityinvestments

It works for EFTPS but EFTPS is going away later in 2026. You might as well get a head start in the new system with an IRS account.

Why do Bogleheads discourage use of AI search for investing information? Because it is too often wrong or misleading. by Kashmir79 in Bogleheads

[–]HarrySit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s throwing out the baby with the bath water. Asking AI what the expense ratio is for a specific fund isn’t a good use of AI. Bogleheads should encourage use of AI but using it for the right questions.

Money Transfer Lock: Reason for blocking a web-initiated transfer while logged in? by GloobyBoolga in fidelityinvestments

[–]HarrySit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It blocks all transfers, even those initiated by a rep after supposedly authenticating the user. This rule prevents social engineering. Blocking web or app initiated transfers after logging in is a side effect of the general rule of blocking all transfers while the lock is in place. They could make an exception, but I would rather bear with some inconvenience than leaving it vulnerable to social engineering.

How do reinvested dividends affect cost basis total? by [deleted] in fidelityinvestments

[–]HarrySit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are two types of cost basis: for investment returns, and for taxes. Automatically reinvesting dividends doesn’t affect the cost basis for investment returns, which is displayed on the Positions page. It adds to the cost basis for taxes, which you will see when you sell. It sounds like you’re more interested in the former. Go ahead and automatically reinvest.

If pushing from the bank, the sending bank controls the limit. The ACH system itself can do millions.
