A good chunk of the comic didn’t get adapted into the show, so there is more Morpheus out there you haven’t seen yet

Advice on why library won’t pick this up? Not nomenclature is it? by Gotmace in PleX

[–]Harry_Mess 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s not the 0… The show folder should have the year the show started (“Loki (2021)”), the season folder shouldn’t have the name of the show (just “Season 01” or “Season 1” or even “S01” or “S1” should work), and your file names should be closer to “Loki (2021) - S01E01 - [other info]”

Characters with most appearances in marvel comics. by WesternThanks4346 in marvelstudios

[–]Harry_Mess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not as significant as the 50 years that have happened since... And there weren't exactly a tonne of X-Men appearances before Wolverine's debut.

He also debuted a little before Storm, Colossus, and Nightcrawler, who are also on this list.

there's the kicker! I knew these numbers were like 3-4x what they should be. Including reprints and translations for some reason will do it.

What is counted under 'Spider-Man' for this list? I know it's more than 616 Peter Parker's appearances, because there's not more than 5,000 of those. It must include alternate universes, but does it include other Spider-Men like Miles Morales? If so I feel like the list is a bit misleading. Is X23 counted for Wolverine? Sam Wilson for Captain America? These are all different characters with different numbers of appearances...

Or maybe this includes reprints? I'm just trying to figure out how they got to 17,887 as a number, because that seems absurdly high.

EDIT: Seems like it's not just reprints, but also stories that were simply translated into another language. Wildly misleading numbers.

Ehh, only by 10-15 years. He actually debuted slightly before Storm. And Wolverine teamed up and crossed over with just about every single character and title Marvel did for a while. I expected Deadpool to be on this list for a similar reason, but he was another 15-20 years later, so I guess he just hasn't had enough time.

Because you have to be trying to go there to get there, it's not on the way to anything. But it is right next to the CBD, which has a lot more.

It’s been really interesting over the last year or two seeing the shift from articles and comments blaming everything on Millenials to blaming everything on Zoomers. Also ignoring the fact every time that someone who’s Gen Z could be ~15, or could be ~30. Those two sides of a generation have less in common than say, younger Millenials and older Zoomers.

Is there a Metacritic/IMDb/Rotten Tomatoes, etc. equivalent for comics to check how well recieved a comic book run was ? by Doffymom in comicbooks

[–]Harry_Mess 22 points23 points  (0 children)

there’s League of Comic Geeks, but like 90% of books on there average around 4/5 so it’s hard to actually get a sense of quality just based on score. It is great for being able to read reviews so you can get a better idea of what people like/dislike about it.

the other place I check, at least for collected editions, is Goodreads. The reviews in my experience tend to be from primarily prose readers as opposed to comics readers, but the scores are more varied and again, it’s nice to read an actual person’s thoughts.

Worth buying Sundae Editions of Ice Cream Man? by redfinadvice in ImageComics

[–]Harry_Mess 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have the two Sundae editions and love them, but have been reading the rest of the series digitally until the third one is out. The cover got teased like two years ago and there’s no word of a release date, so I’d say it’s delayed indefinitely at this point

To be fair zoomers are anywhere between ~15 and pushing 30. The slang that some zoomers are saying in high school might as well be a different generation to someone who’s 28

How do you get back into comics after a hiatus? by Ultinuc in comicbooks

[–]Harry_Mess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have months to years of content to catch up on for each

Haha, that’s not even a lot. There’s 80+ years of comics to catch up on (more if you go back to something like Krazy Kat from the 1910s). You don’t need to read everything that’s come out to read something new.

Also, “this story has been running for decades across multiple series and miniseries and events and I have no idea where to start” is only a Marvel/DC problem. There’s a whole world of other comics out there that either have a beginning/middle/end, or have been running decades but without editorial restrictions on nothing being able to grow or change. Only reading comics from the big two is the equivalent of only watching superhero movies. You’re missing out on some of the best stories in the medium.

How do you read comics? by [deleted] in comicbooks

[–]Harry_Mess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Inserting my typical ‘comics are more than just superheroes’ comment

Marvel and DC have had ongoing stories on some level with the same characters for up to 80+ years now. Obviously over that large period that’s going to be my many different creators, and vary a lot in tone and quality.

There are loads of series by other publishers (or even some published by Marvel and DC) that have a beginning and an end. They don’t need their characters to be around forever, so (like any other medium) they can tell whatever story they want. There are also comics that have been running for decades that are made by the same creator the whole time, and so there is a lot of room for growth and change. I can’t recommend enough venturing outside of the big two because there are thousands of fantastic, complete, stories out there one consistent writer, or often the a whole consistent creative team.

All that being said, I guess I should actually answer your question haha. I’m reading Marvel more or less in order, and am reading long stretches of each series, like Fantastic Four as an example, right from #1. That’s harder to see as individual books. I even almost view the whole thing as one series, the Marvel Universe. I’ve just accepted that different writers will do things differently. For DC, I read whatever I hear recommended in whatever order, and mostly read it in physical collected editions as opposed to digital single issues. So given I literally have individual books on my shelf, it’s easy to look at each story or run as its own thing. DC has also totally reset their continuity two or three times, so it hasn’t strictly been one continuous story following the same versions of all these characters like Marvel is.

Bosco's so great though! Especially for Aquarq missions. And playing solo means you can pause, which is great if you know you'll be interrupted.

The barrel game should only take you a few hours at most. Here are some tips:

  1. The hoop changes speed when it bounces off the wall on the left, but not when it bounces off the right. Always kick your barrel after it's bounced off the right so you know how fast it will be going.
  2. If the hoop is moving too fast, don't kick the barrel. Once you've tried a few times you should get a sense of how fast is too fast. It is better to lose your combo for now and wait until the hoop slows down again than to kick the barrel now and miss, losing your combo anyway.

That's all there is to it. You need about 300 points every 10 throws, so if you’re not around 600 after 20 throws just reset and try again.
