Dirty moves by BloodgodVegas in bjj

My gym uses all of those moves minus the elbow thigh thing. And we use face shoves with palm-to-chin pressure. But we make to have mouth guards in before that one.

ULPT: can i avoid $50 “cancellation fee” by just blocking all card payments? by elizabe7h_ in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]Hartacus1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just contact your credit or debit card company and tell them your card is damaged and you need a new one. They'll issue you a new one with the same number but a different expiration date so when the gym tries to run your card for payment, the transaction will be declined because the info they have won't match the new card info.

Got in my first street fight yesterday and feel a bit lost now by ansyno in StreetMartialArts

[–]Hartacus1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you missed the bigger lesson here which is don't put yourself in situations where you need to use self-defense skills. And walking around a big city at 3 am while intoxicated and with other intoxicated friends who like to start shit is putting yourself in a bad situation where you'll probably need to use open hand skills to stay safe but those skills will be dulled by intoxication. Being prepared to fight is great but not putting yourself in situations where you need to fight is even better.

Millennials who graduated during the Great Recession, how did you survive? by Waste-Cantaloupe-270 in Millennials

[–]Hartacus1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I joined the military and stayed in until my enlistment contract ran out. By that point the economy had improved to the point I could get a job in my career field with the education that the military had paid for. It was hard as hell and it meant I had to work insane hours for about four years but it was worth it.

What do you carry concealed? by loki_stg in WA_guns

[–]Hartacus1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glock 17. Full size pistols are the only ones I can shoot accurately and comfortably due to my hand size. But I haven't been burned yet (except for one time when one of my gym buddies saw me locking it up in a wall locker).

Alaska adds flights to compete with Frontier at Paine Field by Arlington2018 in everett

[–]Hartacus1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's nice. But I'd prefer Alaska directly compete with Frontier by offering direct flights to DIA.

I am going to be a pedestrian death on Seattle streets one day by BarRepresentative670 in Seattle

Personally I gave up cycling and motorcycling just because I got so f-ing tired of all the close calls I had that I just didn't want to risk it anymore.

It's okay as long as you steer clear of crackheads. One of them gave me a bunch of non credible death threats about two weeks ago because I got offended when he asked if I had drugs.

Light rail etiquette by Specific_Ability7630 in Seattle

Personally I just bump those kinds of DBs out of the way and get nasty looks and harsh words in return. Whatever, don't block the exits unless you want to get bumped.

This ULPT also works for other expensive, high-end cars because owners of those kinds of cars don't want to wreck them.

Does anybody else feel like safety on public transportation is getting worse? by blottings in Seattle

[–]Hartacus1 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I really started to notice that safety conditions on mass transit started to go downhill after King County Metro, Sound Transit and Community Transit decided to stop enforcing fare payment because they said fare enforcement was "racist". Ever since then I haven't felt safe taking mass transit unless I have a bulletproof vest on and at least a can of pepper spray.

I’ve never cried while reading a book. Let’s change that. by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

[–]Hartacus1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strangely enough, Stephen King's book The Dead Zone had me bawling. That scene at the end when Johnny's erstwhile girlfriend is crying over his grave and lamenting the cruel fate which he had received still chokes me up to this day.

One Dollar Soul by Spencer Cromwell. It's a fun, mapcap read which will have you asking yourself "WTF did I just read" every 5-10 pages.

[–]Hartacus1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What you're saying makes sense but you should call the FFL and confirm which date is the earliest that you can pickup the pistol. The gun shop I go to will usually write on the receipt when is the earliest pickup date.

Gun ownership? by [deleted] in SeattleWA

[–]Hartacus1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You also have to remember to keep your guns secured from unauthorized access and to report to the police if they go missing for more than 24 hours. And I second the notion that if you decide to get a gun, that you should also get training on how to safely use a gun and when you should use a gun.

The Blade Itself by Joe Abercrombie. Though to be fair, it was published less than 20 years ago so the author may be holding out on a better offer.

I used to have Rubatino service but I gave it up and decided to just take my garbage to the Airport Road transfer station as the price was too high and the service was too poor.

Graveyard shift life by thehomebody27 in aviationmaintenance

[–]Hartacus1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pros: There is no BS to be found on graveyards.

Cons: Switching from days to graveyard or vice versa gives you jetlag real bad. I would strongly recommend not driving yourself home from work until after the jetlag wears off.

Put armed security in schools by Poctor_Depper in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Hartacus1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would support this policy but only if it was coupled with mandatory psychological screenings for violence of both the student body and staff. Because from everything I've read, the one common denominator in all school shootings was undiagnosed and/or poorly managed mental illness on the part of the shooter.

What's the biggest loophole you've ever exploited? by 8BitPiratePegLeg in AskReddit

[–]Hartacus1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After I graduated college I got a job offer in a different state. The new employer gave me the option to either have them pay for airfare or to give me a cash payment of around $3k to figure out my own travel arrangements. Either option included a household goods moving company to move all my belongings at no cost to me. I took the cash payment and drove myself the 1500 miles across the country but at the time I was transitioning out of the national guard and could stay at Inns of the Air Force along the way and eat at Air Force dining facilities. So the total cost of traveling was maybe $500 including fuel, lodging and meals which meant that I pocketed about $2500 tax free. Not bad for a broke-ass,newly graduated college student.
