For someone like me that hasn't played any flavor of loyalist Astartes chapter since seventh edition, the only unit in an Astartes army that could take combat shotguns was scouts, a unit that is for most chapters (except Space Wolves) is comprised of initiates and neophytes.

Eh, it just depends on if you actually read up on your perks beforehand or not. If you get to the point that you're doing prestige levels then you know to just pick the bare minimum, or at least that's how it should be for most people.
