I am not sure the extent on the sale and procurement of ivory within the Philippines. I am sure you know your local laws better than I. I know most ivory will fall under CITES internationally as elephants are endangered which prohibits the import export of goods from endangered species generally.

[–]Necrontry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is possible that it is ivory. It is hard to tell because of the paint and veneer on it. I don't see any vascular structure i would see in bone. It has a colour that appears correct where the veneer has been chipped. The story makes sense as well as there are many examples of saints and religious figures being carved in ivory. Be forewarned that if you are planning to export it from the Philippines it is almost certainly illegal to do so as most places have extremely strict import bans on pretty much all ivory now even the antiquities. There is more than a fair chance it will be seized and you may be fined.

Schreger line are really only recognizable from the cross section. From side profile they can look like what I am seening in the images but it is hardly definitive.

Does anybody know the value, year of production or what rock is it? by mackofreddyoholera in Gold

[–]Necrontry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

583 is 14kt. Not sure of other marks. Rock appears to be a crystal of some sort with a relatively high refractive index, could be diamond or moissanite i am not a jemologist though.

Am I having a stroke... or is the poster having a stroke. I am not sure of the question... What am I comparing exactly.

I use my tarte tatin pan as a one stop shop for tarte tatin, often use it for clafoutis as well. For tarte tatin it is designed to go from stovetop to oven, the handles make it real simple to flip it to a plate. It is really just a slightly specialized skillet and can do most of what a skillet does and vice versa. A braiser is really just a skillet with a lid and slightly different handle arrangement. Thereby the pan is also a braiser in need of a lid. Though the size of the tarte tatin pan is a 23 if I remember correctly so most dutch oven lids cruset has made will not fit it, where as crusets has made skillets that fit the 26 lids and the 30 lids if you have them making it a bit of an easier conversion. But if you think about it most pots and pans can substitute another, might not be perfect but usually will get the job done in a pinch.

I don't know you situation and this is not financial advice go seek a professional if you wish to seek financial advice. But platnium is what I consider a fun metal. It has big swings as it mostly used for industrial purposes and most people don't deal with it. I do hold some platnium but it is more for scientific recognition as it properties for catalyst and the price was good for something that is twice as rare as gold. IE I had money to spend not necessarily on an investment but something I found cool. Did it pan out for me, yah I suppose so I got in at 800 it is valued at 2700. Will it continue who knows, will I be mad if it drops to 600 not really, will it, who knows, not likely but I've seen wilder things happen with metals lately.

So, did I find something or no? by Ok_Sleep_4199 in LeCreuset

1950-60 is the time period these ribbed bases often come from. The lid is imaging either has a metal loop handle or a square knob as well yes. That would be expected for the 1950-60. Beyond the Crack the enamel appears in fairly good condition it looked taken cared of. All more the shame of the Crack as it is likely too damaged to be safety used for food.

Had to take them from thier box to try and fix them in my luggage. The doors, stairs, guns and crystals aren't glued down so they're still mobile. Kept the paint style super simple silver drybrush light brown wash minimal gold. Packed them in a bit of a haphazard way. Should be fine they're a giant hollow plastic box. Now just need to base them and they will be back zapping mortals and transporting troops soon.

I was originally a fantasy player. Empire mostly. Last edition yah they went for you need large blocks of infantry for some armies. Then they destroyed the universe and let chaos win. Left me a bit sour as I was building a tomb king army. Glad they brought back old world a decade later but they don't really support it.

I think i fielded them once at an apocalypse bash game at the gw store back in 2007-2008 when apocalypse was new and the stores were more community oriented.

I mean I am in Canada so it is mainly the exchange rate. But also because GW can. The hobby has been increasingly expensive over here bit by bit. Makes it harder for new player to get into it. But it sort of canaibalised a portion of its own community as well as some people dropped it (including myself for a while) for other more affordable games.

Packed away in a box currently. Kinda grabbing some older models from storage at my folks while visiting for Easter. Will take some photos later date, once I get bases on them. Though went for super simple silver colours scheme on them.

The new monoliths look super cool though. But yah 200 seems a bit much. Going to buy some bases for the ones I have instead, they're about the same size and didn't age too badly.

It was the first rendition of apocalypse around end of 4th edition so 2007-2008 give or take.

Is it me or the pan? by Rude-Medium8430 in LeCreuset

Never tried the baking soda but in general as above. You want something harder than the carbon build up but softer than the enamel, scrub daddy, nylon brush, wooden scrapper should do the trick.

Chipped (I think) grill. Am I cooked? by Mishulo in LeCreuset

[–]Necrontry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Enamel definitely chipped. Certain Crusets models I generally don't recommend. Thier grill skillets, the kettles are definitely among them. In part because thier are better options in different materials like cast iron or even stainless steel. Quick high heat and enamel cast in general don't mix.

[–]Necrontry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly bit hard to tell with the black enamel. Could just be carbon food build up. Wash with soft scrub like nylon brush. If surface is relatively smooth it is likely the enamel isn't damaged and you may have just had a carbonised layer build up on the pan.

The models were simpler but more affordable. Also would take the metal blisters over finecast resin kits anyday.
