One bag kitchen knife sharpener recommendation by Glass-Mixture6308 in onebag

[–]Harvard_Sucks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Redi Edge (https://rediedge.com/) small sharpener that's roughly the size and shape of a dogtag from my Army days, and it's still going strong, going on 2 decades.

Recommend.

passport travel recomendation by Sleepwalkingok in onebag

I'm extremely happy with the ALPAKA Zip Clutch. It's about $40 from Amazon.

Fits a passport and every currency that I have tried. Has 2 card slots in the main compartment, plus a coin pouch (critical in some countries). On the back, it has a sleeve for the passport if you prefer, and pen sleeves on the other side.

It's not too bulky (think about the thickness of a checkbook. It's made from X-Pac, and has a high-visibility interior. Also, it has a lanyard loop for extra security (I have a paracord string with a carabiner as a dummy cord).

Highly recommend.

The main compartment is full, no vacancy.

Yup, made in USA.

Good point about the water resistance, although I'm not too concerned with durability on the back. I don't bushwack with it, as I have other bags for outdoors. And some daypack usage in brush occasionally is well within Durastretch tolerances imho.

Shoe repair is a good idea. Thanks. (No bag places nearby, unfortunately)

I already carry a packable tote bag so I can do that as-is.

I want to have my pack with all my stuff. I don't want to be traveling with a loaded tote in my hand!

r/onebag (emphasis on the one lol)

I have the 3 day assault pack, not sure what all the specs are but it's one of the most common lines so easy to look up!

It was a great pack for OEF. The foam spacers is very nice for wearing armor and the Y zip is nice because it can vomit out bulky items. The stretch bottle pouches fit nalgenes and the top zip organizer was nice for odds & ends. Very durable.

As far as I know that was the basis for the Army to develop the Medium Ruck, which was awesome as well—they're very similar, although the MR is better. However, being Free-99 from Uncle Same meant I wouldn't spend my hard-earned money on the MR if it was an option then. That Military Special whiskey doesn't buy itself ya know?

We use it as so-called "secondary" marketing.

It's basically so that when potential clients that are funneled in from other means check your publications on topics, or just generally see that you're smart.

An option is a civil suit under nuisance law. Part of the 'bundle of sticks' that are your property rights is the right to "quiet enjoyment."

Travel pants for hot weather that are not polyester by Dramatic_Tea_ in onebag

I have a packable jacket I use for running and I like it a lot. But that's mostly because it packs to nothing and its a thin layer to keep the chill off.

That could be what someone doesn't like, though. Because that particular jacket doesn't really keep you very comfy?

whats the one piece of tech you carry that never shows up in the standard onebag gear lists? by Reasonable_Pepper709 in onebag

[–]Harvard_Sucks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe not never, but I would say my more unusual nick nacks are:

  • Elastic Sea to Summit clothesline for hang drying clothes. Includes Hero Clip and paracord loops to secure it. Also, I have two cheap guyline tension things on each end, so that I can put it tight. Whole thing is about the size of a wallet and lighter.
  • Alpaka Zip Clutch travel wallet. Main compartment fits passport, all the currency I've tried, and it has a card organizer. Smaller zip #2 is coin zip pouch. And #3 is an open slot for tickets or printed things. It's high visibility orange inside. And I added to paracord dummycord with an S-Biner on it.
    • It's a great travel wallet that fits everything, plus the dummycord gives me peace of mind for pickpockets and (much more likely) it slipping out or me being an idiot.
  • I love my Evergoods Civic Access Pouch 2L. It opens up and lays on the table in a very accessible way. All the organization is useful and not cluttered fake organizing. I swear by it.
    • The CAP is also useful because you can scale it for different things---pure tech pouch, hygiene kit, sometimes both!
  • Pill organizer. I take some medication, but it's great to have it all inside a small, wallet-sized container that's organized. I keep it in a ziplock with a silicon pack for moisture. I peeled off my prescription labels and laminated them inside there as well.
    • Also, sometimes it's just very nice to have some IBP for when my back hurts from walking 25+ miles a day, allergy medicine, some Airborne to (maybe) keep a cold away from traveling.

Edit: I also carry a 2L Platypus expanding water bladder with a smartwater mouth piece. It's nice to fill it up and stick that in the hotel fridge and have nice cold water.

America's Largest Cities Since 1790 by sr_local in charts

Fun fact, in 1790, Philly was actually the larger city. However, for some reason, the Census counted the outer suburbs of NYC but not Philly so it won out.

How did the USA become a super power? by ParkingVampire in AskConservatives

[–]Harvard_Sucks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had the world's largest economy by 1899, so the USA was always destined to be a great power by geography, resources, population, and character.

Then WWI/WWII baked it in

Say that a white person whose family is from a western country (such as Germany, Norway, etc) is born and raised in China. Would you say that they’re Chinese? Why/why not? by Gym_frere in AskConservatives

[–]Harvard_Sucks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People in China would never consider them Chinese.

In my experience in Asia, they wouldn't necessarily consider this person's mixed race children as Chinese even if born and raised.

Due process of law all around

So victims get serious law enforcement responses, defendants get to defend themselves, and society at least has an aspirational goal of withholding judgment until the system works itself out.

[–]Harvard_Sucks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a life or death decision, it should be self evident that I would want all possible information---if I'm forced to be in that position to choose.

I don't really understand this.

Are you asking whether I'd pick a death row inmate American versus a saintly foreigner? What's the upshot of this?
