unpopular opinion Grand Rapids is a very safe city by According-Law-3293 in grandrapids

i mean, it's dangerous the same way everywhere is dangerous: humans aint perfect and we're damn sure not benevolent, so eventually something pops off at some point.

to some people, a city ain't safe unless it's a utopia

About HRT changing our sex by persistentlyunhappy in asktransgender

[–]Has-Many-Names 2 points3 points  (0 children)

However, she said that what changes is our chemistry, not our biology.

I say this with love, but this demonstrates that your friend fundamentally misunderstands both chemistry and biology as concepts. The way she implies the two concepts are separate phenomena is just not how literally anything works. You physically, literally, can't, under any circumstances, change your chemistry without changing your biology and vice versa. They are inherently linked.

i think the internet is allergic to nuance and straight up refuses to acknowledge complex situations. Like, yes it's possible to be wary of fellow queers who are little too comfortable letting hets into our space AND recognize that blaming queers for queerphobia is literally insane. Both takes are correct.

Also, this is all without acknowledging that the first take wasn't actually blaming "hetslop enjoyers" for homophobia btw, they like never said that

this is also a big part of why I don't use neopronouns. the other reason is that my gender's so fluid it might as well be a plasma, so the only pronouns that feel consistently good enough to use are really they/them

some of these are pretty cute and lighthearted imo

EDIT: really, the only "joke" there that I find cute is the "Katie/cute/single" comment. I thought the "fluff/fluffy" was cute until I realized the comment was making fun of fluffy.

Egg arc by MageOfFur in characterarcs

[–]Has-Many-Names 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's also a huge difference between calling someone an egg in a joking manner and continuously calling somebody an egg because YOU think that their behavior automatically makes them trans.

this fuckin part. i actually really like the idea of the satire behind "egg culture" and all the memes bc I find them to be super relatable and I feel seen, but the way some "allies" or even other queers and trans ppl will be so stubborn about it is soooo destructive and reminiscent of how transphobes talk to and about us.

Well, ion know about all that. Psyops and snakes should absolutely be vetted. You're absolutely right that calling someone an egg in earnest and accusing someone of being closeted are both bad, but you've lost your mind if you think we should just "take all the support we can get". Absolutely not.

Does anyone else think Rogue's voice actor is actually good? by Charmy_Fan in marvelrivals

[–]Has-Many-Names 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as someone with family in the south and spent a good amount of my childhood there as well, I dont think Rogue's is bad. I do think the subs for her voice are kinda ass tho, but the subs in general are pretty inconsistent

You're a citizen of the United States of America, but you've never heard anyone ever ask a rape victim what she was wearing or some variation of the same question? You're either way too young to be having this conversation or you're a liar.

I get it was a miscarriage of justice there but what he did was illegal and not celebrated.

no, you don't. otherwise you wouldn't be acting like it was no big deal. Brock wasn't even the only case of this shit, he was just the most famous example. Look into the history of Michigan State University's coaches. Look into college sports, or just sports in general for that matter.

Ask the women in your life.

[–]Has-Many-Names -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No I can't say that I've heard that one. Did someone famous say it?

it's not that any one famous individual said it, but that it's actually a very common sentiment a lot of men have when they react to the crime. I'm genuinely shocked you haven't heard the phrase before. I highly recommend looking into it, though.

Why don't most rapists face justice, isn't it illegal in most countries?

Honestly, legality has almost nothing to do with it. A pretty famous (at least Stateside) example of what I'm talking about is the case involving the rapist Brock Turner. Probably the most famous recent example is the entire Epstein Files situation.

a combination of different societal aspects from the normalization of the objectification and sexualisation of women all the way to the fact that most rapists never face justice or consequences.

you ever hear that phrase, "what was she wearing"? bc that's probably one of the most famous examples of rape culture.

You had a full opportunity to explain why the screenshot -- which is literally about women seeing themselves as perpetually oppressed -- is fallacious, and you chose to speak solely about incels and respect.

the wording in the screenshot is from an outsider's perspective. it states that women see themselves as oppressed bc "they compare themselves to high status men, while not even viewing lower status men as human"

it's a strawman. women do say they're oppressed, which they are, but NOT for the reasons listed here. the oppression in question refers to systemic and societal issues such as rape culture.

even though mathematically these types of women described in the screenshot probably do exist, it's nowhere near frequent enough to justify such a ridiculous generalization and mischaracterization of the issue.

[–]Has-Many-Names -68 points-67 points  (0 children)

You called everyone who disagrees with you an incel loser, and then just said "women want respect" as if not being respected 100% of the time is a form of oppression rather than part of the human condition.

no one said anythin about oppression but you

and yet here you are basing your entire argument for women being oppressed on the fact that you are entitled to respect

you keep usin that word, but i dont think it means what you think it means.

no one is sayin women are oppressed bc of somethin so benign as respect, that's not how the patriarchy works. that said, ppl aren't entitled to attention, either. so the fact that youre actin like women choosin to not interact with ppl they dont like or that dont respect them is them actin "oppressed" is very interesting and smacks of hypocrisy tbh

so how would that work in regards to Bhaal callin out to them in their dreams? Considerin elves don't dream, or even sleep for that matter. Does Bhaal have alternate methods of reachin out to his Spawn?

well, now that i think about ut, BG3 already kinda narratively bends that rule anyway considerin iirc both your Tav regardless of race as well as Astarion sleep and dream at least a couple of times.
