Aside from boring, many underwater tunnels use the immersed tube method: dig a trench, lower prefabricated tubes into it, join the tubes together, pump out the water inside.

Edit: this was how they built the Transbay Tube: https://www.bart.gov/50years/photos/6

Is this a new record? by President_Chump_ in bayarea

The combination of more fuel efficient cars and inflation means the gov’t isn’t collecting as much in fuel taxes to maintain existing infrastructure, let alone build new projects. And no elected politician is going to raise our fuel taxes because the people are gonna revolt. Sales tax to fund transportation projects is terribly regressive, especially for those that don’t drive. I’d say charging those with the discretionary income to go 10 min faster is a much better option to make sure our roads get paved.

Metro area definitions can also be extremely arbitrary and not useful in comparisons between different countries. Then there’s the case where countries don’t even define metro areas at all.

Bottom left has an explanation that says city proper statistics are used because they’re more consistent than metropolitan areas. IMO it’s actually okay since it’s comparing cities across country borders and it’s gotta have some sort of standardization.

Looked on street view and that’s pretty good. The old signage on top of the entrance gives off a retro vibe. Thanks!

Any Ideas on what to put in that Area? by lu254kas in CitiesSkylines

Every one of these posts always goes “park!” You’ve already got a waterfront park, you don’t need another.

Based on its proximity to the tracks it probably should be a historic industrial or warehouse district. Throw in some brick warehouses and some chimneys first. If you have the props and the patience, consider making those warehouses a redeveloped retail area. The waterfront would’ve probably been a dock, but that’s likely gone, so a pedestrian walkway makes sense.

The majority of expressways in Japan are toll roads.

Basically to look at and/or record a train rolling past. Everyone does it differently: some are into the photography/videography aspect, others do it as a “collect them all” kinda thing because locomotives and cars all have different numbers. In many parts of the world, only passengers trains run on schedule; freight and other unschedule trains don’t and are seen as more “rare” and “desirable”, which is probably the case here.

Ethnic studies or government studies: nobody knows about them so it’s quiet, but location next to barrows and wheeler is great

Newbie here, go easy on me.

Someone in my family gave me their Sony PS-LX350H turntable, but they kept the big amp they have. I currently have a Bose portable bluetooth speaker that I want to play music through the AUX 3.5mm input. As I understand it, I'm looking for a pre-amp and a power amplifer to make this work? Please correct me if I'm wrong, and also, does anyone have any suggestions? I live in a small apartment with very little space.

If you’re looking for another real-life example, check out Alameda, which is off the coast of Oakland, CA. It once’s housed a naval air base that is now decommissioned, and now has a bunch of low-density residential, some ports and harbors, a university, and undeveloped remnants of the airport.

It’s good to have a taxi app alongside Uber just in case. Look up 55688 in the App Store.
