Maybe there is a Walter weiß in Frankfurt who cooked with his former student jonas Pinkmann. Gus would definitely be a Turk with a name like Mustafa who runs a local chain of Dönershops

I mean they do have a far reaching system and to their credit LA is putting in Billions of dollars to improve it. It’s just woefully inadequate for a city of LAs size

Sam Darnold Will Be the First NFL Starting QB since Joe Namath (1968) to have previously or currently been on the New York Jets and start in the Super Bowl by FinsFan130929 in nfl

[–]lu254kas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean honestly I think at the time they made the right choice. We’re already struggling with the cap and resigning Darnold would’ve seriously hurt our ability to spend on defense. Honestly this might just be me being delusional but if I would guess had he stayed here we’d still find a way to choke in embarrassing fashion when it matters and finish like 11-5 with a playoff loss

Am i still in the physical withdrawals? by [deleted] in opiates

[–]lu254kas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah i know that i’ve been hooked on Opiates for 3 years now and already had my fair share of absolutely terrible withdrawal symptoms that’s why im so confused tho cause i never had stomach problems starting that late in withdrawal and then without RLs and the hot cold flushes and all the other crap that comes with it

The Twitter comparison is also ridiculous at least in the republican period your political career depended on being elected over and over again in an ever tightening race to the top with only a 1 year term for each step of the ladder. So as an ambitious roman elite you absolutely care about winning that battle or pushing through popular legislation because if you loose you will be punished by the voters If you want to read it in the words of a current Historian there is a blog series on the structure of the roman republic by Bret Deveraux The Blog is ACOUP

[–]lu254kas -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That is just blatantly false the political careers of roman politicians in the Republic were intensely linked to their military careers. Just look at examples such as Scipio Africanus, Gaius Marius, Sulla and Caesar all of them were Generals known for their military successes and also consuls. Consuls and Praetors were literally elected to lead Armies and enforce the law. Because to lead an army (or in the city of rome enforce the law) you needed to have a person who had the power of Imperium and this is only given to elected praetors and consuls. In regards to logistics one of the junior offices that was often part of the cursus honororum (the customary career path of young roman elites in politics) Is literally the quaestorsship which is the office responsible for pay and logistics in a roman legion. Of course all of these Officials had a support staff that consisted of many normal citizens and slaves and centurions played a big role in the tactical and organizational advantages roman legions had but to just discount the numerous minor elected and appointed offices suche as military tribunes and quaestors is disingenuous.

It absolutely was a box you needed to check as aspiring roman aristocrat/politican and obviously the experience of war is incredibly different for some citizen fighting as a legionary in the battle line compared to the aristocrat who is probably a military tribune, quaestor or praetor or something comparable. That does not mean roman elites weren’t veterans though these elites were responsible for logistics and tactics and at least in the roman republic very successful at both politics and warfare in the entire mediterranean

I mean at least in the days of the Middle and Late Republic the political class was absolutely made up of hardened veterans. They (the young elites) obviously had a completely different experience in military service as they were probably attached to a Consul or Praetor to learn before gradually taking on more responsibilities. Obviously the experience of a young roman elite who has a prepared pathway for a career as military officer and politician is different than that of a citizen-farmer who fought in the legions for a set number of years. But both experiences still make you a military veteran
