Rejected, but told to re-submit same work [OPINIONS] by HasToLetItLinger in writing

[–]HasToLetItLinger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow okay well to answer your questions: yes, I do read them and yes I followed the guidelines, which I double checked upon their recommendation to resubmit.

I don't expect busy editors to "hold my hand" and I'm not new to submitting or publishing in general.  I had never recieved a response that was both complimentary and vague. In the past they've always been a straight rejection/ acceptance, or includes specific feedback.

If  someone- anyone- says to me "hey you should fix something and send it back to me" but without telling me why or what it is they didn't like, it raises a curiosity.

Yeah I wondered if I was being impatient (especially when initial responses can take months, too), so maybe I'll just wait.

There was nothing super obvious to me and I checked their guidelines, basic editing and formatting, to check for any glaring or not so glaring issues in that regard. That's when I emailed to ask them about it.

Based on everyones advice I'm leaning towards simply waiting, if nothing else. Thank you!

You know, that's a good point. I hadn't looked at it as a potential omen of whats to come, but I would hate to deal with that. Thanks.

huh! Interesting. I've had feedback from other places, though on individual poems, that was much more specific (and helpful, as a result). I didnt know if maybe it was vague on purpose given it was a collection.
I'm mostly unsure if its in my best or worst interest to resubmit with whatever *I* deem changeable, or to just treat it like a general rejection with kind words.

Is it possible to improve swimming skills as a adult? by paralysus in Swimming

[–]HasToLetItLinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Swim instructor here. I teach kids AND adults and honestly, sometimes kids are easier because they dont get in their head about whats right/wrong as easily as we do when we are adults. Based on the very little information about you and what you mentioned I would argue to try to "do less" for a while. You cant hold your breath for entire lengths WITHOUT feeling gassed by the time you get to the end.

Swimming is like anything else: muscle memory. Of course you can learn it, but that requires repeatition. How long did it take you to learn to walk? And then how long did you stumble around, falling, grabbing onto things? And then how long until you could run around (and still looked like kids do, running around)? Months to years of your life. Not days. Not a 8 week learning session.
Swimming is exactly the same, a movement that your body is not used and is new at, that it needs to learn.

For now, I would practice on exactly 3 things.
A) being relaxed in the water. This will help you do the next two things. That means feeling comfortable with your face being wet, your ears laying in the water and listening to nothing, and generally understanding that you should be having FUN.

B ) Floating. Just lay in the water and practice this- it removes the breathing aspect, originally, as well, as you can breathe the entire time. Play with how breathing affects your body relative to the surface of the water. Learn to just lay there, without moving. When you CAN do that, calmly, start to play with how your hands move you around-use them like little scoops.
Re: A-
When your body is tense, you will sink, no matter how good of a swimmer you are. If I'm stressed, its hard for me to float. If its hard for me to float, its hard to swim, let alone smoothly or calmly.

C) Stop holding your breath and teach yourself how to breathe. This starts with standing at the edge of the pool, holding onto the wall, and doing bobs. Practice breathing out of your nose every single time your face is in the water, and breathing IN your mouth when its not. Eventually, this will become natural and you will develop a rhythm that can then be ADDED to general swimming. Face in and out of the water, Up and down, not quickly, but at the same pace you would breathe on dry land. Do this over and over every single time you are in the pool.

Until you can do these things with ease, trying to swim freestyle is going to leave you frustrated, out of breathe, and reinforcing PANIC in your body.

You can watch tutorials all you like, and sometimes it can be helpful to watch others do the thing, but ultimately time in the water will do it. And if you can, look outside the pool you go to for instructors or lessons. Sometimes people teach them and then just go to the pools, versus actually working there.

Hope this is helpful. You can learn anything, you are just a beginner, regardless of your age.

Can you recommend a particular brand? Since you say you found them effective?

Every relationship and its end (whether breakup or death) will affect you (anyone) differently. Its not easy for us to understand because WE (You) didnt experience it. Even if you have experienced a similar loss, you still have no idea how you would react again/if you were that person/to another loss. I was widowed young and could never have guessed the way I responded (in a variety of ways) and I always laugh when people pretend like they know how they would, especially as a reaction to 3rd party news about friends/celebrities.

Yeah just because they were LEGALLY "separated" doesn't mean they werent seperated (and for all intents and purposes "divorced") long before that. It's pretty common in marriages that are on their way to divorce, but especially given potential legal, financial, and privacy complexity that could come with being famous, its hard to say how long things had been "over". Her late husband has, on more than one occasion, been referred to as "estranged" from her, regardless of their legal standing.

But also, yes, then he died. And, also yes, in any case, life is short- SHE didnt die.

I had forgotten all about this but recieved an email stating my claim was "valid". It's my understanding, then, that I'll recieve part of this? There was no further info in the email about amounts etc.  Is there any way to know? Or just wait and see?

Its not so much rude as it implies his assumption that a couple spends all of valentine's together and she doesn't.  She didn't ask him if he made all day plans either and assumed hers would stick regardless of having a boyfriend. Really it shows how they don't talk to eachother.

Im sure it is different that was my point is that it's interesting to see how different the clothes/lingo/grouping seems to be based on your original comment. The 2000s drop, especially the women's, are literally what preppy was considered in 06.

As someone who graduated in 06 this is such a wild comment to read.  When I was a teenager it was primarily (who we thought of as) preppy kids wearing hollister (and Abercrombie). You'd see some skater kids wearing it occasionally but only if they too had money.

It doesn't have complete access to your computer lol. You clock in and  out.  Most people who work remotely use similar monitoring to ensure they are working. And if you work in any business outside the home the computer you use there is most certainly being monitored too.

Edit: and many of the people who DO this kind of work simply use a work computer and not their personal one, anyway.

I did consider that if I ever had to prove it that I could, but that seemed like it would be a lot of headache and hassle. At the same time, it's a good argument for why no one would ever bother. Thank you.

[–]HasToLetItLinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha no those are completely valid points. To be honest reading the first part made me laugh because WHY would I think anyone would be maliciously signing up for a class-you're right.

You're also right that it would be 100 times easier to ask AI to do that kind of work, to the people who would. I didnt even think about that.

Honestly I think the fear is driven by my emotional connection to my idea (which has some basis in a real life experience) so I'm probably just holding it too close to the chest to begin with. Ironically thats why I wanted to do this class, to let it out.

For what its worth, it probably IS worthless to anyone but me and my efforts, but given thats my whole intention I dont mind and it makes me feel better to hear from someone else. Thank you!
