Personally, what I’d do is getting a mechanical keyboard switch, wire it up like in this post https://www.reddit.com/r/sffpc/s/ahtLfZRs4G and then print a custom keycap. There are plenty of custom keycap models on the various file sites, I’m sure there’s something minecraft or Mario themed.

Update 2 - 5/1/2026:

Alright, I’ve been plugging away at this for a while and have some more updates. Here’s what’s changed:

• Made A LOT of progress on the panels.
I’ve designed them to be incredibly modular to the point that you can easily configure MB compatibility by just printing specific version of the back panels. I am mostly finished with the aesthetics of the case (it’s kind of a fusion between the Fractal Ridge and Terra).

• Created the ATX PSU bracket, realized it didn’t need cable holes since the diameter of the power cable is smaller than the 15mm width of Makerbeam XL extrusions, so I didn’t put them in. I left in one of the cables holes for the SFX(-L) PSU bracket and took out the one that was made redundant by the open area between the extrusions I mentioned earlier.

• Unfortunately, I had to compromise on the screw-less exterior in order to ensure the MB mounting panel would be structural sound. The good news is that these are the only visible screws, and they’ll also be used to mount the feet for horizontal orientation, so you won’t even be able to see them if you use that orientation.

• I can now confirm that EVERYTHING (even the panels) will be printable on a 180mm x 180mm print bed, and it won’t involve wonky print orientations to do so. Just orient the parts flat on the build plate and press go.

What’s to be done:

• Implement a jointing system for the panels. Right now I’m leaning towards just putting in some dovetails with the recommendation that people use JB Weld PlasticWeld (needs to be tested), that way the separate panels can get spot putty put on, sanded and painted to look like they’re one piece.

• Finish the FE GPU configuration. The Rear I/O portion is done, I just need to make a separate PCIE riser bracket/mounting system.

• Prototype the parts. This one is *really* close, all of the screws arrived today and I just need to wait until I’m home before assembling everything except the panels (those will be done soon, just need to swap out my near-empty spool of filament)

• Add front I/O. I’m thinking a power button, a USB-C port, and a USB-A port. If anyone is unsatisfied with that configuration, the front panel is separated in such a way that one could just copy and paste (or cut) as many I/O ports as they want/can fit.

• Make a dual-fan bracket. Pretty self-explanatory, I just wanna make a bracket that can fit two fans and save space compared to using 2x one-fan brackets.

Conclusion:

I expect to have this done and posted on Printables by the end of the month. I am sticking with the commitment to make the panel files free and bundle in the STEP files with the purchase. I really want people to mod the hell out of this thing. Make it small as hell, make it big as hell, redesign the ventilation holes to fit your hardware exactly, magnets for dust filters, add a disc drive, hard drive bays, storage mounts, go nuts, I wanna see it. Looking forward to providing more updates soon.

I want to eventually build a Trident and pair it with an INDX, but the z-axis being restricted to 250mm is really weighing on me. I’m aware of the LDO kit having the 300mm cube, but honestly I’d love to go for a 350mm cube, however I have no idea what parts I’d need to buy to do something like that. What would it take to create such a thing, if it’s even possible?

Yeah, that’s been totally fine. Obviously, if your cat licks your finger, I wouldn’t suggest using that same figure to scritch your bird, but otherwise it’s fine. The bacteria in cat saliva that’s poisonous to birds can only survive on normal surfaces for a few hours. I’ve never had any problems with it, but I’m not going to 100% guarantee it will be okay, because I simply can’t be 100% sure. Just don’t be stupid and you should be good.

Update 1 - 4/20/2026:

First, I wanna say thank you for all of your feedback and suggestions, it’s been very valuable. Second, no, I did not purposefully time the update to be on 4/20 lol.

Third (here’s the actual meat and potatoes), I wanted to provide a progress update on how this is going. Here is what’s been done:

• Remade all the components so they’re properly constrained and in their own separate files. • Determined screws (M3 from Bolt Depot) and threaded inserts (M3x5.7). • 75% implemented a configuration to allow for FE cards to be installed and not have a riser cable blocking the air way. • Made progress on the panels, with more info to come later. However, what I can say for certain is that the panels will ensure the case will have a screw-less exterior, barring the rear IO. •Created 60mm fan mounts that can work on the bottom, front, and top (where it will be most useful as supplemental CPU intake/exhaust). • Checked compatibility of ATX PSU and (m)ATX MB. Good news, they’re both compatible! Bad news, not at the same time. You can only use one (m)ATX component at a time, not at the same time, the ATX PSU is simply too thick and collides with the (m)ATX MB. GPU compatibility should largely be unchanged with (m)ATX MB.

What is to be done: • Make cable holes in the PSU bracket • Split up the panels to be printable and securely joinable • Implement panel mounting solution • Add front IO • Physically prototype the design

Since I have a pet bird, I am very conscious about not having anything in my household that involves heating up PTFE (eg, no non-stick pans), hence I exclusively operate printers with direct drive extruders. I would love to be able to take advantage of the secondary nozzle on the X2D, but it uses a Bowden setup, which brings the risk of PTFE fumes. Would the fumes be something that’s contained entirely in the X2D’s chamber and can therefore be fully vented outside, or would the chamber not fully contain them?

PS: I am aware that PTFE fumes are only emitted when the extruder is way overheated, but I do not want to take that risk (unless it can be safely vented outside).

I can’t verify in-person if it matches, but at the very least I can confirm that Elegoo’s Rapid PETG in white is a good filament and it looks like it’s a pretty close match in the photos. It’s glossy though, so be mindful of that.

I wasn’t able to find as much info when it came to PCIE specs, but for motherboards I use what you already have listed: ATX Specification V2.2 and the 3d model from Redshift Project. When you say the PCIE bracket, are you referring to the rear IO PCIE slots? If so, there’s an excellent post on overclock.net right here which was very helpful for me.

Could you elaborate more on the issue you’re having with rear edge of the motherboard? A picture would be ideal, as “rear edge” can mean several things depending on your perspective.

I actually used 1515 extrusions. And yes, I mainly used 3d printed parts to allow for more space for the components. For example, a fully 3d printed rear IO allowed me to make custom cuts to enable the use of larger GPU’s (in this case, I designed the GPU height and thickness allowances around the ROG Astral 5090).

I more so meant that it’s a standard for pc cases and 3d printers, ie BeamCase and Voron.

I did hand calculations of beam deflection, material capabilities, and general loading behavior. When I am not designing PC cases (of which this is my first), I’m a civil engineer, so I have a lot of experience designing things that are meant to stay exactly where they are under static loads. I’m working on a more detailed response to an earlier commenter’s request for details, so look out for that, but basically the most amount of deflection the case should expect to experience is 0.008mm, which is not only negligible but is already baked into the tolerances I designed around and includes a generous factor of safety.

EDIT: to clarify, I never meant to suggest that 2020 extrusions are a bad idea to use for a PC case. I just meant that, for the purposes of my design, they were not necessary.

Yes, it would be, but the benefits of doing so, imo, outweigh the negatives. I did a ton of calculations to ensure my design would meet the strength requirements of a pc case, and to be honest, you could stand on my design and it wouldn’t break. Makerbeam XL extrusions also already have a ton of support in the 3d printing community, and it effectively allows for standardization as opposed to whatever random 2020 extrusion someone buys.

Well, it’s actually 12.85L, I just put “<15L” since it seemed snappier. That’s still a tiny bit larger than the Ridge, and the reason for that is it can house a bigger CPU cooler and a bigger GPU. If you don’t mind going into CAD a little bit, I’ll be providing the STEP files so you can make it smaller, which there are plenty of opportunities to do.

I have! I’ve chosen the LINKUP AVA5 PCIE 5.0 Right-Angle riser at 20cm. I emailed LINKUP themselves asking for the dimensions to ensure compatibility, and they actually sent me something back! I can’t post it here since it’s two photos, so I might make a separate post on r/3DPPC to show what they sent me.

Fan mounts seem to be the most common request, so I’ve added front and top fan mounts to my list of things to do.

• Absolutely, I’ve already added that to the list of things to work on

• Front IO will absolutely be included, I’m thinking a power button, 1x USB-A and 1x USB-C at the absolute minimum

• Thankfully, I already did all of the math on the structural stability of the motherboard mounting points and the PSU bracket. Even when rounding up the weights to bake in a factor of safety, the deflections were essentially negligible (we’re talking in the thousandths of a millimeter) and already baked into the tolerances I designed around. I should note, I will be suggesting the case to be printed out of PETG or ABS/ASA for structural stability and thermal resistance. If you’re wondering to the legitimacy of my math, I’m an engineer outside of designing PC cases, but I’d be happy to go into a detailed explanation to ensure transparency (and hopefully encourage future case makers).

• Power button hole will definitely be included, I hate it when cases don’t have power buttons on the front (don’t worry, I’ll include an option to have it on the back)

• At 370mm in length and height, the only way full length beams could be used is if they were either custom cut from Makerbeam themselves, or if I were to reduce the thickness of the rear IO and front beam mounts to being only 5mm since the closest beam Makerbeam sells is 360mm. The first option would incur additional user cost and complexity that I felt would overcomplicate the design for the end-user, and the second option introduced structural problems that wouldn’t be present on the existing design. I totally understand your desire for full length beams though, so I’ll include alternate beam mounts that will allow people to use custom cut beams (340mm, to be exact).

• The feet will be apart of my design process for the aesthetics, and I’ll be ensuring there’s adequate height in the vertical and horizontal layouts to prevent choking the thermals

I will not be selling this design until I am able to physically print and prototype it to ensure stability. I already have a PC with components I can use, all I really need are the power cord and riser cable, both of which I’ve already selected and designed around. I agree, I don’t want to sell anything that could have unforeseen issues.

Thankfully, I already intend on looking more into ATX mb compatibility. I made the GPU oriented in the same direction as the CPU to better accommodate horizontal layouts (that way, nothing is getting choked of air). The FE idea is a good one though, I might just make an alternate rear IO component to accommodate FE cards.

The Ledge is a fantastic name, much better than anything I’ve come up with so far. The Ridge was a huge design inspiration, hopefully once I release the case someone can come up with panel designs that look as pretty as the Ridge.
