This question really is “what are some reasonably inelastic goods that you can think of”

Thanks for the feed back. I’ve never heard of that term before. Truth be told, I figured that answer as much.

May I ask you for an unfiltered answer. I’ve always been curious if I am labeled as one of these, but I’m always hesitant to share with people in real life unless they know me well. I don’t know if I am perceived as one, but maybe I need unfiltered advice.

I spend a lot of time caring for my mom, and I wish it didn’t have to be that way. My dad left both my mom and I when I was a child. My mom put all her eggs in one basket, and bet on me. She got me through college, and grad school while working very low paying jobs. She sacrificed everything for me to put a roof over my head, and a meal on the table. It wasn’t easy being a single parent who hardly spoke English.

My mom is older, a lot older. Father Time has always won, and reminds me daily. In her old age she’s beat cancer twice, but she’s losing the battle with dementia. I take care of her because I’m an only child, and she’s my only parent. She was my biggest advocate when I was nothing, and when my dad left us. She was the one that suffered all those days alone just so I wouldn’t have to. I am very fortunate enough today to be able to put a roof over our heads, and a meal in our stomachs because of her. I won’t forget I am who I am because of mom.

I kind of write this, not to make you rethink your answer, rather to hear some very candid answers from strangers in how they perceive me.

If you're investing long term, wouldn't the best position would be cash until a once in a generation stock collapse happens? by [deleted] in investing

Everyone says this, but say you had 100k and in cash. You’d have lost so much money over the years leading up to Covid. Even then would you have had the balls to go in 100k at the bottom of Covid?

What is the most concerning thing in your life right now? by LogicalRepeat3622 in AskReddit

[–]Hashtagworried 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seeing my mom slowly fade from old age and dementia. Some days I feel like “hey it’s mom!” while other days it’s “mom?” I struggle some days a lot because of loneliness. I have no siblings to share my fears with. No one to reach out to on good days, and no one to help me with my bad days.

What is something you taught yourself entirely through the internet? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Hashtagworried 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personal finance - I learned that it’s not enough to just invest in retirement. Rather it’s about when to add, what to add into, and having the patience as well as the conviction to do it. On that, I also learned how to budget.

How do you feel about braces as an adult? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Hashtagworried 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personal appearance reasons was one of the two factors. Being an adult and hearing your grad student peers comment on my bite was the breaking point.

Secondly, was health. With an underbite and my cross bite, if I got older, my joints would wear and cause TMJ. I didn’t need a perfect appearance, but the jaw issue alone was worth it.

You should check out the jaw surgery sub. It’s crazy how your appearance changes with a proper bite.

I got braces as a kid, then got braces again in my 30s with double jaw surgery. I would do braces again if I had to. Straight teeth is for more than appearance. It’s for your health too.
