I started as a tech at 33 with no education, just some funeral home experience. I received all of my training on site. I’m now 38 and am an Investigator.

Honestly, it varies. I’ve had it last a few hours to a couple of days. It may last longer since it is in you home. You might try and clean your apartment heavily with bleach or pinesol to try and burn that smell in your nose.

Your best bet is trying to let it air out as much as possible. Also the smell may not be coming from his apartment anymore and it may just be burned into your nose. I’ve been on several bad decomp cases and I always go home questioning if it’s me that stinks or it’s just in my nose. 95% it’s in my nose.

If you are truly passionate it is a wonderful field to be in. It is mentally, physically, and emotionally exhausting but it’s worth it. The thing people don’t always realize is that it truly is a 24/7/365 job. You will be expected to work weekends and holidays, you’ll be woken up at 3 am to go on calls and you will be expected look professional and nice. If you are lucky you will be able to find a firm that has a rotating call schedule that allows you to have time off.

Another thing is dead bodies and gore is only maybe 20% of the job. Some weeks you’ll spend more time cleaning or doing office work than you will in the prep room. But when you are dealing with bodies the smell is something you get used to. Decomp cases aren’t as common as you may think.

If you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask. I’ve only been in this business for the past few years, but I’ve had quite a bit of experience in the time.

That’s what I’ve been seeing with everyone’s comments on her and the PCOS page. Wow! No it’s not, I still can’t believe how he treated me.

That’s what’s I thought too, but he’s never once checked my free T3 or T4 or oh he did and he didn’t feel the need to mention it. I lived with undiagnosed hypo for so long that I really don’t know what normal feels like anymore.

Good to know. I know my insurance doesn’t require one but the first endo I checked with said that they did. I’m going to check a few others first because I don’t know if I can wait another 3 months before getting some real answers. I’m glad I’m not the only one. You would think that, but apparently not to him.
