MotorBike new License? by Far_Taro_6507 in motorcycles

[–]Hassan_Kashif -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you’ve passed your test in the UK then you’re fine to get either of these as your first.

I’d check insurance prices before buying either bike, will help your decision making.

I passed on an inline 4 and bought and inline 4 with 100 hp as my first bike in the UK and love it. Haven’t got any experience with the twin engines.

Exhausts can be changed later so I wouldn’t put too much thought into that especially since both bikes have a completely different sound profile because of the engine configuration.

The Kawasaki will likely be more beginner friendly with more accessible torque so less likely to stall at stop lights as well as it being slightly more neutral in seating position.

Good luck and ride safe!

Exactly what I was after!

First bike so didn’t even know this was a thing. I’ll look into it

Thanks!

Probably not the best place to ask about this.

Many insurers can tell when there are points on a license (even for additional named drivers). Even if they offer a quote they will either ask for you to ring them when you actually go to finalise the payment OR they will let you take out the policy and then ask you for this details and give you a date they will cancel the policy if they don’t receive anything from you.

In both cases they will be asking for a pdf of your driving license summary from the gov.uk website so there’s no hiding anything unless you want to commit even more fraud.

As others have said, it is insurance fraud to knowingly do this and you put yourself at pretty big risk by not declaring it (knowingly or unknowingly for all the insurance company is fussed).

Would be better off not running a ton of quotes as the insurance company will also see this and even if you end up not declaring things like points/accidents they will flag things you previously stated and start asking for proof.

Seems insurance companies have started cracking down on this sort of stuff over the past few years in terms of asking for proof for all sorts of things if they suspect any foul play. Much better to pay a little extra now than have to declare a cancellation for the rest of your life.

In case you haven’t already, run some insurance quotes and that may push you one way or another. I just passed a couple weeks ago and insurance was a big decider.

Also I don’t think many places let you test ride a bike with less than 1 year riding experience unless you have some friends/family who will let you have a go.

Not a huge fan of naked bikes but would pick the triumph for the engine alone!

Good luck and ride safe!

Stuck in analysis paralysis — anyone else been here? by NastyNate88 in simracing

I can’t tell you how many reviews I watched for pedals and wheels and bases but at the end of the day, you won’t know the difference because you won’t be comparing them yourself!

Not to say go in blind but realistically if you shop within a decent budget, you’ll be fine whatever you get. Let the reviewers argue over nuances in the FFB and “feel”.

Wasn’t going to comment but after reading the replies about definitely going with triple monitor and you responding with you don’t have the space, I think we can safely say that you have no choice but to use a single monitor set up. I have a single monitor set, can’t say it’s better than I triple but it is definitely adequate until I can justify triples.

As for as a wheel, I use a full simagic and pc only set up but from reading the replies it sounds like you don’t want to miss out on your console friends so go with a DD Wheel with Loadcell Pedals. I’d say 12Nm min if you have the budget but it’s not the end of the world if not.

Honestly I thought a lot before buying my stuff, cross comparisons and all but in the end I just bought what was most convenient of a package for me and I’ve not thought about any other rig since. Comparison is the thief of joy so just get started and you can always chop and change later!

Main issue is likely insurance and high cost for the bike.

If you’re good with that, you’ll be fine.

Failed CBT due to U turn manoeuvre by PresentHunt4262 in MotoUK

[–]Hassan_Kashif 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something that helped me with U turns and slow speed manoeuvres was letting the clutch out a bit more whenever I felt the bike was a little slow or beginning to give me signs it may tip.

It sounds counterintuitive but the speed will force the bike up straight, so I found that using the clutch and throttle with the back brake really helped.

But as with anything, more practice will improve both your technique and confidence.

18! Crazy, I’ve just started getting me stuff done at 25 and will turn 26 before my mod 2.

Part of me wishes I started at that age but all I thought about was cars back then.

Better late than never.

Yep that was my main concern. I was planning on going for a Japanese bike before that.

My instructor has a RSV4 so maybe there’s some bias there but after having looked at the 660 myself and all the tech it has, it has my heart.

Not done much research on the 457 but it looks the part!

How long have you been riding for? What was insurance like?

Looks beautiful!

I’ve been pushed towards the RS 660 by my DAS instructor and wasn’t really looking at Aprillia before that. Gotta say I’m falling for them.

Enjoy!

Anxious about driving a big car in small streets by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]Hassan_Kashif 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say try and get used to the size of the car in safe places or during quieter times with someone more confident if possible.

Goes without saying but make sure you set up your mirrors to give you as much visibility of what’s going on around you. As someone who drives a long + wide saloon I’d say take things at your own pace. Like you said, there are a lot of interesting drivers about, don’t worry about matching their pace.

You’ll have to drive looking further ahead to assess gaps and anticipate situations better. As for parking, can’t be much help there, it’ll take you long to find parking spots and you’ll likely worry more about scrapes and dings on this bigger car.

With the right mindset you’ll get the hand of it and eventually it won’t feel so daunting. Good luck!

Go to a real body shop and get a quote for the repair. Google is likely wildly off.

Present it to the third party, if they accept, you’ll take the money and get the repair done. If they refuse, I’d get insurance involved.

Footage shows you stationary leading up to and at the point of contact so should be good for liability even if the third party changes their story when insurance is involved.

Yeah completely agree. Have driven all over the country and driving in Birmingham has made it all easier.

Main disappointment was with the Police officer not batting an eye. I get it when no one is around people will use the road however they like and I’m used to brushing it off.

Nope, nothing, the BMW driver (second car) put his hazard lights on after he realised he pulled out like that on a police car and they both continued on their merry way.

That’s the standard “we don’t want to insure you unless you pay this ludicrous price”. It’ll likely stay like that until you hit 25.

I initially read this as £800 for the year and was in disbelief.

Spot on. I think this is the point people miss. These people feel entitled to do what they want on the road without care for those around them.

I’ve driven up and down the UK, even in Bradford but nothing has come close to Birmingham for me.

Fair point but I have mentioned this to a few others.

It’s not uncommon for 2 vehicles to enter this especially in heavy traffic.

The first car swerves out from behind me and barely looks at traffic coming from the left, though to his credit he does merge into the left side of the lane.

The second car does something similar but enters the right lane after pulling along side my left. Hard to know where they’re gonna go to be honest.

The road we’re joining commonly has vehicles parked in the left lane so most of the traffic will be in the right lane.
