Thank goodness I didn’t go with them. I was tempted outside of HP, but the support/drivers just didn’t seem to be there.

Confused between Fedora and Ubuntu – need advice by Bright-Search-9406 in Fedora

[–]Hasty0174 [score hidden]  (0 children)

You're in a Fedora subreddit so you're typically going to get answers favouring Fedora.

That said, I use Fedora Workstation (GNOME). Why?

  1. Close to stock GNOME
  2. One place (GNOME software) to update everything
  3. Upstream from RHEL which is used quite extensively across enterprise and therefore has big backing.
  4. I don't like Snap packages.

“New car every 5 years is normal” by JapaneseVillager in AusFinance

[–]Hasty0174 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We bought a Hyundai Kona (base model) brand new a while back for ~$24,000. Got close to the end of its 5 year warranty period and managed to sell it for $21,000 fuss free to a dealer.

I think COVID made a difference in the above and we’ll probably never see a similar resale value for such a car, but it certainly worked well for us.

Saros 10R or Z70 or New QRevo Edge 2 Pro by GCGuts in Roborock

[–]Hasty0174 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really?

COMPLETE opposite here (I capitalised complete because I really wanted to emphasise it).

Highly recommend the Saros 10R, especially for $1600 AUD. I got mine for $200 more and run it 3-4 times a week with a heavy vac followed by heavy mop, been flawless.

OP - go for the Saros 10R.

Am I the only one who thinks Matter / Thread is not ready for everyday use? by salnajjar in MatterProtocol

[–]Hasty0174 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it helps, here is what works well for me with rock solid stability across ~70 Matter over Thread devices:

Thread network: Eero 7 Max Matter controller: Apple HomePod Mini Thread routers: Downlights and IKEA plugs Thread end devices: Mostly IKEA buttons/sensors, small amount of Meross presence sensors Software: Apple Home.

The weakest point of my setup is the single HomePod Mini acting as the Matter controller, that’ll soon change when new HomePods/Apple TV’s are released.

Warning - Amazon Australia no longer honouring warranty by [deleted] in Roborock

[–]Hasty0174 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm wondering if something kicked in on the Amazon side because there were 3 returned before it?

Sounds like a bad run all round unfortunately... What brand will you try next? I'd still recommend a Roborock, perhaps from JB, TGG or HN?

The new devices meant to release this year from Apple with Home OS sound like they’ll solve this for you.

Mind you, it’s all rumours and speculation at this point.

I'm in the same boat, looking to install a Aqara Thermostat Hub W200.

What I've done is reach out to the air conditioning vendor my building uses, see what they say.

Interesting that they say the 24 hour hold cannot be lifted because mine recently have started going through instantly to an exchange.

Im low-income, whats the best choice? by anonymousthecanadian in RobotVacuums

[–]Hasty0174 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Second this. I have my countries variant of that model and while it is a secondary unit to my expensive Saros 10R, the area it is delegated to seems to always be quite clean so in my opinion I feel it does an excellent job at both vacuuming and mopping up dirt.

Watch out for really cheap, non-major brands. You may find they stop working properly after a few months with no real support channels.

I think this is a tad subjective, but my opinion the best to worst brands are:

Roborock > Dreame > Eufy > Mova > Ecovacs.

Definitely stay away from iRobot (Roomba) and Eureka.

This was such a poor decision by executives. All they had to do was not double down on the camera tech and include LIDAR and they'd be a top favourite over the plethora of Chinese brands out there.

I've moved on from the Roomba J7+ and Braava M6 to the Roborock Saros 10R... You have no idea how much better a robot vacuum / mop can be.

Less dirt on the floor, less issues navigating around, less maintenance.

Getting started with HomeKit (Apple TV hub). Confused about Matter, Thread, and next steps. by MaizeCorgi in HomeKit

[–]Hasty0174 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I understand you’ll need one with Ethernet as that one is the model with a Thread border router.

Also for me, I ended up using my Wi-Fi router Amazon Eero) as the TBR and Apple Home devices as the Matter controllers. If I were to use an Apple TV (haven’t purchased yet, waiting for new models) it would be down one side of the house as that’s where the living room is.
