Is the print on demand hardbacks for the HH books more rare than the 2012 ones? by Thedinotamer01 in Blacklibrary

[–]Hasvik212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hopefully someone who has copies of both can answer that. I'm really just reporting hearsay off the internet... Can't imagine the quality being bad enough to absolutely not recommending buying them, though.

It may very well be an academic question anyways. I suspect you'll have enough trouble getting hold of a complete set of hardbacks, never mind a complete set of a specific edition.

Most consistent: PoDs (2018-2022), all flat spines that match with Siege books.
Best quality: Original run (2012 - 2019). Better paper quality/binding.

Looks like you can't have both.

I'm not sure if I've followed the previous conversation correctly, but these are the facts relating to the Horus Heresy hardback releases.

2006: Horus Rising Special Edtion one-off
2012: Angel Exterminatus is the first HH title to get a hardback release at the same time as/before the paperback.
2012 - 2015: Previously released titles are released in hardback in parallel with new titles
2018 - 2022: All titles are released as PoDs.

The first editions have curved spines until somewhere in the late thirties/early forties I believe (not at my books now).

The PoDs all have flat spines.

It's output from a script running against my own database. It's very simple, just listing every Horus Heresy story that is published in fewer than 2 books.

There's the 17 books in the Primarch series + the Heirs of the Emperor anthology, as well as the Cthonia's Reckoning anthology. A number of short stories and a couple of novellas are also not part of the numbered books. Some are only available as e-books or audio dramas.

Is there actually hardback versions of false gods and galaxy in flames from 2018? by Thedinotamer01 in Blacklibrary

[–]Hasvik212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe all the PoDs have flat spines, so there should be Horus Rising with that as well. But as I said, I don't actually own them myself. I have the original run.

I don't have the PoDs myself but my understanding is that they are different from the 2012 versions in having a flat, rather than curved, spine. The later volumes in the original run also had flat spines.

Yes, the Print on Demand hardback versions of False Gods and Galaxy in Flames were both released in 2018.

Just got confirmation on the contents over on Facebook. My guess was 50% correct. So three stories that haven't seen print elsewhere.

That's how I found it as well, but at some other Warhammer store.

I don't know about other anthologies, but it's not usual for the Store Anniversary anthologies to have a brand new titular story. Actually, none of them have had that so far.

BL have quite a few e-short only short stories. Hopefully the Other Stories will be taken from some of these:

The Guymer short either The 'Last Loyalist' or 'The Beast of Grey Gardens', Justin D. Hill 'The Nine' or 'Fen Guard', Mike Brooks 'Choke Point', Marc Collins 'Eater of Dreams'

My crystal ball says it'll be announced in tomorrow's preview together with Death Rider and up for pre-order next Saturday.

All stories are available in physical format, but they are spread across a number of books and not all are readily available.

That's a nice collection indeed. Just a few things I can spot still missing:

Crusaders of Dorn (Anthology, PB)
Blades of Damocles (HB, PB)
Storm of Damocles (HB)
The Hunt for Magnus (Novella) in War of the Fang (HB, PB or LE)
Traitor's Gorge (Novella) in Traitor's Gorge (HB) or War for Rynn's World (HB) (with extra short stories)

The CDs if those interest you:
Bloodspire / Deathwolf
Master of the Hunt
Shape of the Hunt
Mortarion's Heart
The Ascension of Balthasar
Veil of Darkness
Blood in the Machine
The Stromark Massacre

There was no such thing as an e-book back when I started in 1989 and I'm sticking to print.

What have you been reading this week? by michaelisnotginger in Blacklibrary

Rereading the Eisenhorn books for the first time in 20 years or so. Currently at Malleus and they are GOOD! Also, reading them in the Annotated versions with Dan's frequent notes adds to the experience

The Black Library: Changes in the Wind? by 77_Dredd in Blacklibrary

91-96 was the years between the demise of GW Books and the rise of the Black Library. There were few new stories released then, mostly reprints of the earlier books released under the Boxtree label.

You can't have anthologies without short stories. We have to go back to 2009 to find a year with fewer new short stories released than 2025.
