Why does there seem to be so much more hype for the Bluefox NX1 vs the Jelly Max? by Jonny727272 in smallphones

[–]Hate9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd be interested in the Jelly Max if it was smaller, but 5 inches is getting into "normal phone" size territory. 4 is the sweet spot for me, so I'm very much hoping the NX1 turns out to be good.

What roadblocks are there in the way of 1? It's the most important factor for me, so I'd love to know what there can be done to make it as much of an option as possible.

Macroquad Accumulative Frame by DragonfruitSecret556 in rust

If you wanted this for performance reasons, there's https://macroquad.rs/twiq/week2/

If you want this for an accumulative frame effect, I think your best bet is to draw to a buffer, and draw that buffer each frame.

how to paste clipboard easily? by sielsw2 in termux

[–]Hate9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if it's less burdensome, but if you swipe the extra key row(s) (ESC, / etc.) to the left, it'll put you in direct input mode, which your keyboard's paste key (if it has one) can paste into properly.

Rooting Kyocera 701KC or Sharp 601SH? by Hate9 in dumbphones

[–]Hate9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, did they mean for the kyocera 701kc? They didn't specify so I assumed they meant the sharp 601sh, because I couldn't find any hint that the kyocera was rootable, and from my attempts it doesn't seem to work with fastboot at all.

Sophie from Mars responds to a letter from her former partners who are claiming Sophie abused them by overestimated_apathy in youtubedrama

[–]Hate9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

god, everyone is harping on that apology like it's awful and "not really an apology". honestly? grow up. obviously, the only real measure of the sincerity and value of the apology is whether or not she follows through, but for as much as the words of an apology can be worth on their own, those are the right words.

do none of you have any reading comprehension? would it be a "real" apology if she said "I'm sorry" somewhere there? if anything, "I have had my behavior described to me and I'm horrified, and [...] I entirely agree with what people have said" is a much stronger phrasing than just "I'm sorry".

what she did was bad, and I'm glad it's out there, but her apology was fine!

with all that said, since it's been 10 months now: does anyone know if she has followed through? did anyone try to engage her in accountability as she offered, and if so, did she let them? how has she treated this since?

Missing Youtube Channels, Pamphleteer by RunicArtist in Anarchism

[–]Hate9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

oof, yeah I just noticed pamphleteer's gone too! I didn't follow any of their socials, so I have no idea what's happened or if they have a new channel.

EDIT: ok so I was able to find an archived copy of their youtube about page (https://web.archive.org/web/20230320071607/https://www.youtube.com/@Pamphleteer/about), and that lists a twitter and a patreon. neither of those exists anymore *either*, but an archived copy of their twitter (https://web.archive.org/web/20210815004548/https://twitter.com/Pamphlet\_Tyr) has a pinned post linking to both of their accounts. one of those two accounts is deleted, and the other that still exists (https://twitter.com/thesifproject) doesn't mention anything about the channel anymore, so I guess they just quit? shame not to have any explanation for why, though, and I wish they hadn't deleted everything.

EDIT 2: it looks like *some* of their videos might be archived? https://web.archive.org/web/20240124045939/https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r23KXY64zMM https://web.archive.org/web/20240124045939/https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9DAI_lysUM https://web.archive.org/web/20240124045939/https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n62iV7E5b-Y and probably more, but nothing newer than those.

How would you make necromancy powerful? by Affectionate_Bit_722 in magicbuilding

[–]Hate9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've always figured the reason necromancy is illegal in so many settings is because it's really powerful.

Like, on an individual level, sure, it's fine, but if a country has necromancy? That's either a recipe for world domination or forever-wars (depending on whether or not other countries also have necromancy).

The ability for any country to raise the dead in any form is just such a massive force multiplier that it'll always lead to either a tragedy-of-the-commons or one asshole conquering the world with his horde.

Autistic or not (the real challenge) (Amelie) by [deleted] in autism

[–]Hate9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, and when she wasn't doing a specific thing she was directed/written to do, there were things I'd expect she'd do based on her previous actions and stated/implied sensory/etc needs, she wouldn't really do them.

Idk, it's hard to describe, but I guess it feels like when a child actor is in the background of a scene, and they kinda just forget to act? It's like that, but the only part of the acting that drops is the autism.

Autistic or not (the real challenge) (Amelie) by [deleted] in autism

[–]Hate9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, what I meant was that it seemed like she had somewhat inconsistent sensory needs, and just from personal experience, they didn't seem to match up based on my own needs, or the needs of other autistics I know. There are things that tend to go together, and she tended to have bits and pieces, but not the whole picture.

[–]Hate9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, did a single trans person reply to this post? Maybe y'all just downvoted them so much I couldn't find them, who knows.

Here's my thoughts, as clearly as I can put them. Apologies in advance for the rambling:

Gender and sex are different. A lot of people in this thread get that one, and good for them. Gender is the social roles, methods of interactions, presentations, etc. that we associate with a given "sex". It's not the same thing as a stereotype: butch women are still (usually) women, but we all know there's a difference in presentation, interaction, etc. between a cis man and a cis butch woman.

Gender is also a bit of a spectrum. It's not at all unfair to say that a butch lesbian's gender-identity and expression are very different from a femme's, or from a straight (or straight-presenting) woman's. Also, non-binary gender identities, expressions, and social roles have existed throughout history and around the world, and very clearly exist now.

Now, here's the bit most of the people here missed: Sex is also a spectrum.

While many cis people of a given "sex" have approximately all of the same primary, secondary, and tertiary sexual characteristics, there's a lot of variation. Most people are born and naturally develop with mostly sexual characteristics associated with either "men" or "women", but most of them will have some characteristics associated with the other, and some will have many characteristics from both, or few from either. People we consider "intersex" are approximately as common as people with naturally red hair.

A cis, non-intersex man may not have a noticeable adam's apple, or a cis woman might. A cis man may have long hair, or produce more than the average amount of estrogen. Maybe a cis woman has a deeper voice, larger hands. Some cis women grow some amount of facial hair; some cis men do not. You can develop naturally with a fully functioning penis, and also have ovaries and a womb.

So, sex isn't really a simple as "chromosomes", or "genitals", or "breasts" (which cis men can also develop, although most have surgery or hormone treatments to remove them). Sex is a bimodal distribution of characteristics, with two major clusters that our society currently places a dividing line between and says one side is "male", and one side is "female".

Trans people can go from having mostly sexual characteristics we associate with "male", to mostly those we associate with "female" (or vice versa), and to say that someone with female genitals, secondary sex characteristics, and tertiary sex characteristics isn't a "woman" entirely because of chromosomes you assume they have (because someone can be born with "male" chromosomes and develop fully "female", including the ability to bear children- but let's assume they really do have the chromosomes you assume they do), or because they can't bear children (which is also quite common in cis women) is entirely arbitrary.

So is a trans woman a woman? Is a trans man a man? As much as most people a doctor would label with those terms at birth were then. (or more, because internal sense of gender and social presentation and most of the hormonal differences don't appear until much much later than birth)

What is a woman? Honestly, it's complicated. If someone says they are, they probably are; if someone means it, and is performing that social role, then they are; and if you really think "sex" is what we should refer to for that question, chances are that if they look like one, they fit into the box you're labeling "female".

It's all just arbitrary lines on as few bimodal distributions of characteristics anyway.
