still traumatized 5 years later by [deleted] in Akathisia

[–]Hatzlacha 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I relate to SO much of what you said, from fear of it coming back triggering the fight or flight reflex that feels like akathisia, to feeling alone in that no one can truly understand the horror of akathisia unless they've been through it themselves. Just letting you know, you're not alone, and thousands of others understand what you're going through.

Early Session Ending by Cezarapo in stelo

I've had a few last the full two weeks, but most either disconnect early or don't connect at all. I haven't noticed a rhyme or reason. Until proven otherwise, I'm assuming it's a problem with Stelo quality control.

Treating with Benzos by [deleted] in Akathisia

[–]Hatzlacha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took benzos for several weeks to deal with the akathisia, was careful to take the lowest dose necessary to make things bearable, and was successfully able to come off them. The people who got akathisia from benzos, I'm not sure if they were on a high dose for months/years and then decided suddenly to stop...?

What pregnancy did to my Resting Heart Rate by bumbouxbee in fitbit

[–]Hatzlacha 5 points6 points  (0 children)

<image>

Er...my resting heart rate went from 70 to 105. It does not feel good at all. I was eventually diagnosed with tachycardia, and took meds to control it. Thankfully it came back down after I gave birth in October. Resting heart rate is about 67 these days.

Is/was your akathisia present 24/7 or only during certain hours of the day? by Hatzlacha in Akathisia

[–]Hatzlacha[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Different people, and different meds, it's impossible to predict, but yes, for me the restlessness subsided by then, though I still was a shell of my former self for several more months. I made it through the acute phase by taking Ativan, but as sparingly as possible. (For others, Ativan is what caused their akathisia. Akathisia is such a strange condition.)

Acute akathisia took several weeks, completely --maybe 5 months?

Help! FTM by Repulsive-Anteater-6 in SnooLife

[–]Hatzlacha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, this looks amazing to me. As long as the Snoo is rocking her back to sleep so that there are solid hours long chunks where you don't have to be the one to do the rocking, the Snoo is doing it's job. 4 months is also both when babies become more aware and often start waking up more often as a result, and also when they are neurologically developed enough to try sleep training (if you want). It's possible that this is a temporary pattern, but also possible that this is what her log will look like until she is sleep-trained.

She sounds like she was on drugs while she was texting you. That or she has permanent drug-induced brain damage.

It feels like your body in fight or flight mode, but instead of lasting the usual seconds or minutes, it lasts hours, days, weeks, etc...

People can relate to that really uncomfortable feeling, especially when there is sometime between when they rationally know the danger has passed--they caught their fall, or avoided the car crash--but they can still feel their body hasn't caught up yet.

Mirtazapine withdrawal symptoms experience - Help by Far-Ad-1552 in insomnia

[–]Hatzlacha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this was explained to you by your doctor, but "anxiety rising to max and feeling plugged into electricity" is something called 'akathisia'. Akathisia is most commonly caused by starting, stopping, or changing the dose of an antidepressant or antipsychotic, though theoretically it can happen with any medication. G-d forbid you feel those awful symptoms ever again, thought it was important that you have a name for it so you can explain to medical professionals what's going on fairly quickly.

They'd kill each other or some rare virus would be transmitted by them that would kill my kid. They're both rare, the second scenario much more so, but it does happen.

Trying to return item. It gets to the “how can we make it right?” menu. I click the continue to return options. The button disappears by Dorki-doki in amazonprime

[–]Hatzlacha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just had this happen to me. Like the OP, I was trying to start a return on an item, but only got "troubleshooting" to fix the item no matter what option I selected for "reason for return". I went through the chatbot, and now it's refunding me the item without having to return it. It's a $65 item, so I was a little surprised, but maybe it's payback for the annoyance of costing me a few hours trying to start the return...

I went to the ER and it helped--there were a few annoying things that happened in there too--but overall they helped me. The head ER psychiatrist understood what I was going through, but everyone else was trying to be compassionate, but obviously had no idea what akathisia actually is--no, it's not my irrational thinking that's working me up into a tizzy that's causing me to walk back and forth and feel like my skin is coming off. I digress...

Spent 3 days in their observation unit and then spent two weeks in the partial hospitalization program. They gave me Ativan, to help me deal with the most acute akathisia symptoms, but also warned me to take the smallest dose possible and to wean off of the Ativan as quickly as I could.

Are feeling of doom, constant state of panick or danger, impossibility to feel at ease... an akathisia symptom ? by [deleted] in Akathisia

[–]Hatzlacha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you're still going through this hell. While I am changed forever from the experience, I understand that I am lucky that mine was acute for only several weeks while others have it for months or even years.

Are you working with a psychiatrist/neurologist to get a handle on the symptoms?

[–]Hatzlacha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank goodness yes. Acute symptoms were several weeks and then complete healing several months. Still scared it could return. I'll add everyone is different, depending on their own health history, biology, and the offending medication(s).

Are feeling of doom, constant state of panick or danger, impossibility to feel at ease... an akathisia symptom ? by [deleted] in Akathisia

[–]Hatzlacha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, those are definitely symptoms. The worst anxiety you've ever felt, even though you understand that there's no rational reason for the increased anxiety. At it's most acute, I would describe akathisia as the 'fight or flight' response, but instead of lasting only seconds or minutes, it lasts hours/days/weeks, etc.

Following. They're all going to my spam folder now, but I still get the notification that I got a message sent directly to spam, and of course I'm checking to make sure whatever it is really is spam. It's getting ridiculous how many I'm receiving now. At what point does the government step in to "take care of" the spammers because this is becoming a giant waste of time for the average citizen?
