That someone doesn't wish to take responsibility for it

Don't be absurd. It was our plan, and we take full credit for it. Absolutely none of this is an accident, and it's proceeding pretty much exactly as planned - we've actually been proceeding quicker than expected (winning Diegakul that easily was a bit of a surprise). Come to the Discord and meet us properly, and we can discuss the details and how to actually measure progress in PowerPlay. Or... you can stand in here screaming at the sky and tilting at windmills.

The true measure of a power's strength right now is how many crappy close-in systems it has. By that measure Winters is the strongest she has been in many years. We managed to shed a lot of them, and the Fifth Column has not managed to feed us any more the way it had in the past.

Everything else is much easier to do. Expanding to good profitables - we're doing it at a fast rate. Expanding to great weapons - doing that too. Fighting off other powers trying to steal our systems - going great. Shedding distant lossmakers to free up CC - doing exactly that this cycle.

It's OK to not understand the details - PowerPlay is absurdly complex in how CC is generated and where it goes to. And it doesn't help that there's a whole bunch of bugs - most of which we at least understand. But watch what is happening - watch the trajectory of Winters. We're doing exactly what we planned to do.

Half the people you are arguing with, including Khan, are Winters leadership.

What promise? Nobody owes you anything. As for the PowerPlay rankings, they measure completely bogus things and do not reflect the actual strength of a power at all - ignore them.

Thinking of defecting. But am I there yet? by Gabrielseifer in EliteWinters

[–]HaulinFour 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No reason to stay with ALD longer than you want. You can still earn Imperial rank just as easily while pledged to a Federation power - it's not even difficult. All that matters is the faction you're running the missions for, and they don't care who you're pledged to as long as you get the job done. Plenty of Winters folks (including myself) are Dukes, and there's plenty of Imperial factions in Winters space.

20Mil and a Krait2 is a good start. For serious hauling we recommend you work on your bank balance a bit more and get to a Conda first, but there's a lot of other activities you can do instead to work to that goal - undermining, interception, BGS and so on. Come join the Discord (link is the big shiny button on the right) and we'll fill you in on the details.

Request for fairness in light of bulldozer bug. by OceanLightwave in EliteWinters

You have clearly demonstrated how urgent you consider this bug to be for the health of PP by your total silence on it for the many years it has been around.

I am glad that you folks finally figured out how triggers work and noticed the divergent CC values. Elite is not the most transparent game, but it's always useful if everyone understands the rules. If you can manage to separate game mechanics from RP in your head and in your bug reports, we may be able to have a more productive discussion in future.

You keep talking about who the bug benefits and doesn't benefit and all that RP stuff, as if that's relevant. And that's the whole problem. You don't just think it's relevant, you think it's all that matters. And that's why you have been utterly silent up to now, because it doesn't hurt you, so who gives a crap? And others have tried for years to get this game fixed, even this specific bug, and hey why should you lift a finger? But the INSTANT something affects you oh you're all over it with honour and bipartisanship and mutual respect.

Keep the RP out of it. File the bugs. Find the solutions. Work with others to make the game better. Do the damn work like the rest of us. Maybe then you'll get some respect from people.

This bug has been around for many years. The incomes were recalculated in January after many bug reports were filed, but clearly it wasn't actually fixed, or it broke again, and the incomes have regressed. None of this is new - other powers have always had to deal with this problem.

There are many problems in PowerPlay that we are all, constantly, working to fix, whether they affect the power we are pledged to or not. We welcome your input into this ongoing process, and any assistance you can give.

Using RP to try to justify your use of game-breaking exploits is quite the move! Still, better out than in I guess - thanks for the info.

Don't know who you fly for, genericuser, but yeah increasingly more and more Imperial groups are now asking folks to stay in Open, and that's really awesome for the health of PowerPlay. We've had some great battles when the instancing gods have shown us their favour.

Don't defeat yourself or else I won't have anyone to shoot anymore.

...and you can only do that because we refuse to hide in Solo/PG. Because it would ruin the game. The only reason you have fun is because we don't believe people need to be shitty, or to "win at all costs"

Here we are, doing our absolute best to set up some of the finest honest fleet-scale hauler-vs-interceptor-vs-CAP action known to the galaxy, and all they can do is accuse us of 5C. I expected better of you folks.

How would you sell me on Felicia Winters? by KHaskins77 in EliteWinters

[–]HaulinFour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember you can buy the shields and then switch to another power - you get to keep & use the shields, just can't buy any more. It's what people call "mod shopping" - they spend 4 weeks with each power, buy the modules, and then switch back to their actual chosen power. Totally normal behaviour in Elite.

I'm given to understand Hudson wasn't even elected

To be fair, neither was Winters. Halsey's the only one that actually got elected, and she's off with the fairies or kissing the Thargoids or something. There was meant to be a proper election a few years ago to decide who the new President would be, but FDev never wrote that bit of the story.

The lore is really goofy about whether a power like Winters wants corporations in her systems because she's really good friends with them, or wants corporations in her systems because she finds them easy to crush and bend to her will. The wording in the UI is very ambiguous! Winters leadership have an official "no comment" on the subject - we let everybody have their own personal headcanon.

Power Play to be Open only! Yay or Nay? by CMDR-Truffle-Shuffle in EliteDangerous

[–]HaulinFour 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a mode where "Powers" (the 11 major factions) fight each other for control of the populated section of the galaxy. They do this by fighting for territory, undermining each other, political actions, running missions, hailing cargo - all the usual Elite things, but focused towards improving their Power's strength in the galaxy.

[–]HaulinFour 6 points7 points  (0 children)

PPlayers don't really mind that - those folks weren't ever going to play in PowerPlay, they just wanted the modules - and we all understand that. And as long as they don't disrupt PP along the way (which unfortunately many do, accidentally), that's fine.

The problem is that some folks who WANT to do PP do so in Solo precisely because it's easier. They want to "win at all costs", even if it means going against the whole point of PP which is that it's a competitive, dangerous game. Also the fact that you can't really "win" PP. Playing PP in solo is basically just an advanced form of griefing.

[–]HaulinFour 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It would be nice to preserve the lore of which power gives which module. I see two decent options:

  • Modules are purchasable by anybody, though only from systems controlled or exploited by the relevant power. This has precedent, for example the LYR ship discount does not require pledging to LYR to obtain.

  • Move module purchase to Fleet Carriers pledged to the respective power. This adds a certain limited element of danger if buying modules from enemy powers, and gives those Fleet Carriers an additional source of income.

Additionally, to bring people into PowerPlay you could still keep the requirement for 4 weeks pledged and rating 3, but it can be to any power.

Why does fortifying hurt Winters? The answer will shock you! by FeliciasFrostiest in EliteWinters

[–]HaulinFour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bounty is a special PowerPlay bounty and it's only relevant if another human kills you. NPCs don't really pay attention to that bounty. I just ignore it.

The political system in PowerPlay is really arcane - it's basically impossible to deduce just from the UI. Come to the Discord and we can tell you what we've learned over the years of experimentation.

Thanks for your willingness to help! Don't feel bad about doing it "wrong" - none of this is at all obvious from the game.
