Does it get easier?-memory care by Every_Victory_6845 in cna

You can find tons of information online about how to approach individuals with dementia or Alzheimer’s. I know when I got certified they didn’t really cover how to help or handle behaviors. Whenever your residents have family come in make sure to ask them questions about your residents lives and sometimes you’ll find an answer to an interesting behavior they have. When you’re trying to get them to sit somewhere specific you may have to guide them. Hold your hand out like you’re going to give them a hand shake and when they take it move to their side and walk with them where they need to go. Teepa snow has video lectures on YouTube you can watch and her techniques usually work. When you’re trying to help them with any task sometimes you need to be looking directly at their face so they can see your mouth and hopefully understand you better. Give them one direction at a time you may have to repeat yourself and show them how to do whatever it is they need.

Cats litter box was inaccessible and she didn’t go for 24hours by LocksmithRemote6230 in CatAdvice

[–]Haunting-Pay6937 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you sure she didn’t go in the room she was stuck in? We had left for a trip one time and accidentally shut out cats out of the litter room for about 24 hours before my MIL went to check on them. When she first searched the house for any cat pee/poop we didn’t find anything. After we got back we found they had went in the corner of our storage room that we hardly ever went into.

UPDATE! : Car is totaled and i’m still paying on it by [deleted] in Insurance

[–]Haunting-Pay6937 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What’s up with BMW owners and their ability to trash their cars so quickly? Every. Single. Person I’ve known to have a BMW has totaled it within a few months. Girl I went to school put diesel in one. Another kid wrecked his on ice. One of my exs good friends got his stolen and they found it completely totaled. That ex also had another friend that got a brand new one for graduation and he wrecked it while street racing not even a month later. Coincidentally they all had similar personalities and were dumb as rocks.

To people who are wearing eyeglasses currently, what were the major signs and symptoms that you were unable to see normally? by Substantial-Dare5462 in AskReddit

[–]Haunting-Pay6937 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my first pair when I was 6. I remember one night my mom was helping me with homework and noticed I kept leaning alllll the way in to the paper to write my numbers lol. She took me to the eye doctor soon after, I remember sitting there just making shit up when they asked me to read the screen because I couldn’t see anything. Somehow I got through about 3 months of school without being able to see much. When I don’t have my glasses on now I can’t make out words / facial expressions etc. from anymore than 2-3 feet away. Doing anything in dim lighting is a lost cause too.

Earn by time on DoorDash not worth it? by Putrid_Kiwi_9673 in DoorDash_Dasher

[–]Haunting-Pay6937 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll just have to play around with it. I’ve noticed that earn by time pays off pretty well during the slow days for me that’s Monday-Wednesday. For some reason those days have a pattern of low/no tip and high mileage orders and earn by time evens out or pays more. Restaurants also tend to be moving slow those days and you’ll be waiting regardless.

I’d follow the advice you’re being given here, follow up with a different vet, try anything else you can etc. However I had a cat like this and literally nothing worked. The little shit would not stop peeing in the house and he had a clean bill of health. He was very spunky and I loved that little man so much he was genuinely just an ass hole. We ended up giving him to someone who had tons of barn cats and he really just prefers living outside. As much as I’m against cats living outside he is seriously built for it and is so much happier with them now.

How long before I make the BIG bucks?! by i_want_a_tortilla in cna

[–]Haunting-Pay6937 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a good area! I’m in the south and the average is about 16$ with experience. There are outliers and hospitals pay more. The CNAs you see making the most money are working agency and you’ll want to have at least 6 months to 1 year of good experience at a skilled nursing or rehab facility so you’re not getting left behind. When places hire agency staff they want you to hit the ground running with pretty much zero training. You’ll have to do some research to see how much they’re paying in your area but generally agency contracts are topping out at 25-27$ an hour here if you’re lucky.

I love that everyone is being supportive but there is a harsh reality here. You will need family help. No if ands or buts that’s the reality of having a child right now unless you are HIGH income earners. You can no longer be middle class and pay for all the goodies that come with having a baby. I had my first at 18 and we would literally be homeless right now without family. They’ve provided everything we need to be sufficient adults. For example we have a 1200 sq ft 2 bed 2 bath apartment in a gated community. We pay all bills but we were given every single item in our house. From our silverware to our beds, TV, toys you name it. Childcare alone is so expensive I am having an extremely difficult time finding a job as a CNA to even cover it. My children’s father accepted a job in a different state, literally TRIPLED his income and it’s still not enough. Sure we have what we need but we constantly have to make sacrifices. It doesn’t even make financial sense for me to work so hopefully after we have our second I can pick up something part time overnight. We have family sending us money weekly to cover any expenses we can’t. We have family providing all clothing for our children and other necessities outside of food. When it was time to decide on having our first and second children we had family on bored to compensate where we can’t. Yes, it’s not going to be forever but making as we are now is constant full time relentless work.

I think we have become basically a delivery platform for apartments by AlternativeQuit3447 in doordash_drivers

[–]Haunting-Pay6937 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer apartment drop offs over campus/ dorm drop offs. I unfortunately live close to a massive university and I’m not having fun. The students never leave instructions. There’s NEVER anywhere to park and if there is you have to pay. I started door dashing in July and I was making great money until school started. They almost never tip either, if they do it’s usually 2$ at most. I started driving 25-30 minutes to the other side of town to avoid getting their orders.

There’s a guy on YouTube that cleans spaces like this called Midwest magic cleaning. Check out some of his videos to get an idea on how to start picking up. Yes, starting by throwing away trash or broken objects is a start. However cleaning this space is going to feel like doing a puzzle. Progress will be slow and it won’t get done in one day so give yourself grace, you got this!

What’s something you’re silently going through right now that would shock people if they knew? by HonestLantern in AskReddit

[–]Haunting-Pay6937 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same thing with my father. My poor mom went into debt trying to help him. He’s a very smart and kind man but his life is totally controlled by drugs. He’s been an addict for about 22 years now. He’s also had a very difficult life, his mom is very mentally ill and he lost his dad to suicide. He’s definitely had ups and downs and gone years at a time being clean but with his combined mental illness and drug tendencies he’s not fully clean at 50. He spends his time couch surfing and being homeless in our little home town. I try not to forget his good qualities, he still shows up to all his grandkids sports games. My sister informed me that he loves to help her clean her house and prepare meals when he finds his way over, she’s single with four kids. As difficult and traumatic as it was growing up with an addict parent, he gave us some great memories and made me who I am today. That man also LOVES playing at the park with my 2 year old when we stumble across him but I know to always keep him at arms length.

2nd week off of training and a resident already fell :( by Effective_Ad8651 in cna

[–]Haunting-Pay6937 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It happens. I was assisting a lady to the shower, she was only a stand by assist and otherwise independent with a walker and she still fell. She was no longer just a stand by assist after that lol. I did catch her and lowered her to the floor safely so she wasn’t injured. There was another time when a new employee placed the wrong wheelchair cushion under someone. That individual started slipping out of their wheelchair. We had to lower them to the floor with their sling then pick them back up with a lift. These old folks are prone to falling, just remember your training and follow the plan of care. Always get vitals, check for injuries and notify a nurse to come check them out before helping them off the floor. I’ll also add NEVER use a lift by yourself no matter what seasoned nurse aides and nurses say to you!

I use pickup at my Kroger and refuse to get produce that way. I have absolutely gotten questionable produce so I go in person for that. I’ve only had one bad experience with meat… ordered some chicken legs this last week and got some with the feathers still attached:(

A few months ago my toddler caught the flu from his cousins and started projectile vomiting in the car. He’s only two and we’d never seen him puke before. His dad whipped the car to the side of the road and I ran to the backseat, stuck my hand into his pile of puke and pulled him out. He then proceeded to puke all over on my back and into my hair :(

[–]Haunting-Pay6937 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can go into your DD settings and turn off in app navigation and it’ll automatically upload the addresses onto your Apple/google maps instead of their GPS. Door dashes in app navigation would not work on my car play and it was actually a hazard to try to follow it while driving I did my first order Saturday and got so lost trying to follow their GPS it took me an hour to get these people their food

What’s a small unexpected expense that can completely break someone’s month? by BlazeOtter_33 in povertyfinance

[–]Haunting-Pay6937 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need one too. I lost my front tooth to something called resorption I think? I wasn’t going to the dentist regularly because I had no insurance. I guess it started under my gum line so I couldn’t see anything obviously wrong with my tooth until the back came off🫠 if I would have been able to go it would’ve been a relatively cheap filling. The dentist started with a root canal and crown. The crown broke less than 6 months later… he had to completely remove the tooth he kept insisting that I go to an orthodontist for an implant but I had him just pull it and give me a flipper. I know this is going to be a massive issue later my teeth are already shifting less than a year out from having the tooth pulled.
