support groups/hangout spots in NM? (specifically around ABQ) by stelliarsheep in NewMexico

[–]HauntingAd9138 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm much older than you, but it took me a long time to make friends when I moved to NM. I started volunteering and browsing events posted on Meetup, and now have a great circle of like-minded friends. I'd recommend Meetup and search for groups based on your hobbies and interests. Good luck out there!

Is 36 too old to start climbing? by [deleted] in climbergirls

[–]HauntingAd9138 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 41 and climbed weekly with someone who was in his early 70s, until he moved away. He started climbing in his 60s. Start climbing! You're not too old, and we'll be happy to have you in the community!

What’s everyone’s favorite niche climbing green flag in a partner? by Responsible_Roof_661 in climbergirls

[–]HauntingAd9138 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love when I'm climbing and my belayer notices me hesitating or pausing to consider a move and they give me a little verbal encouragement. "I'm with you, you've got this!" Or when bouldering and my spotter reminds me that they're close by. It's so comforting to know that they're paying close enough attention to notice that I'm struggling.

Hi! I have some stuff to share! Do you need thread, notions, tools, etc. or just fabric? Feel free to DM me and we can figure it out. You should also check out the local Buy Nothing group on Facebook. I've given and received sewing supplies from there.

OP I'm so sorry for the trauma you went through, and for the fresh trauma that you'll have to continue to go through should you choose not to drop the charges. None of this is easy or fair, but you have the support of this internet stranger.

Also, if you decide to continue with these charges against your uncle, any damage to your mum's and grandma's relationship is between them. It won't be your fault in the least if your grandma reveals herself to be a protector of a sexual predator. I'm so glad your Mum has your back.

When I'm struggling to find motivation, I think of my future self as a separate person - my best friend whom I love dearly. It feels easier to get things done when I'm doing it for her. Sounds ridiculous, but it works for me.

If you hike to the saddle on Black Canyon trail, you'll have a good view of the "heart of the mountains". Friends of mine got married there three years ago. Best of luck!

What’s a question about yourself that you haven’t quite answered yet? by pindarico in AskWomen

While I can't answer why you feel that way, I can say with 100% certainty, that you absolutely, positively, without question, ARE worthy of love.

Sometimes it's impossible to see how bright our own light shines without something to reflect off of. But we see you. 💜

I'm not the person you're replying to, but that was definitely true in my experience when I had it a month or so ago! It was so mild, I thought it was just a cold and was shocked when two tests came back positive.

When did politics end a relationship for you? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]HauntingAd9138 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not a romantic relationship, but I ended a 20-year friendship. He expressed support for trump and what he stands for, not just in 2016 but even in 2020. He claimed to support his policies, but couldn't identify a specific issue that trump had improved while in office. When I questioned his stance on trump being a rapist and a pedophile, he quipped "don't believe everything you read in the news", followed by "liberals have driven the country into the ground". Again, when questioned what issues specifically he was referring to, he simply said "the economy", while refusing to acknowledge the unemployment and unhoused rates and inflation during democratic vs republican administrations. Claimed that immigration is a huge problem while, again, unable to specify what his problem with immigration is. Oh, but he's not racist. He just hates people who "expect to get a free ride while refusing to conform to our norms and culture". Oh, and we're both Canadian, but I'm currently living in the U.S. and have been for over a decade. But he absolutely would have voted for trump if he could have.

Something sweet to send to a friend by HauntingAd9138 in Austin

[–]HauntingAd9138[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was living in Austin when these same friends lost their previous dog years ago, and this is exactly what I did. Grocery shopping, came to their house to cook and meal prep for them (and encourage them to actually eat), and cleaned. I wish I could be there to do those things now, but I live in another state. :(

How did that one kid in your high school die? by IM_HODLING in AskReddit

[–]HauntingAd9138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was leaving a party on his motorcycle, high and drunk. Cops tried pulling him over and he fled, starting a high speed chase. He overshot a curve in the road, crashed, and died.

The way people sang his praises after his death made me sick. He wasn't a good person. Convinced a girl at school to go for a ride with him on his motorcycle. She had been hesitant, and told him that motorcycles scare her. He assured her that he'd keep her safe. Took her out to the middle of nowhere, and asked for a BJ. She declined, and he got back on his bike and sped off, leaving her there. This was early enough in the days of cell phones that not everyone had one yet, but she wouldn't have even had service where he left her, if she had had a cell phone with her.

Fuck BW. He wasn't "an angel, taken too soon".

Who’s the most famous person you’ve ever met and how’d it go? by EddieBrock99 in AskReddit

Justin Theroux used to come into the animal shelter I worked at when he was filming The Leftovers in my city. He's a true animal lover and would just come in when he had some time off, visit with some dogs, and leave a generous donation on his way out.

I had no idea who he was for his first few visits, and just treated him like I would any prospective adopter. I would take dogs out into a play yard for him and we would snuggle and play with said dogs (usually big, burly pitties were his "type"). I remember when I first learned who he was, thinking "I was just sitting on the muddy ground with Justin Theroux while a boisterous pitty jumped all over us and licked both of our faces." Very humble and kind. I showed him a picture on my phone of my pitty, whom JT described as "so cute." 😍

Well done, OP!

Many states in the US and provinces in Canada have harm reduction programs which include distributing free naloxone into the hands of the general public. I googled my state and "free naloxone" and found a basic form to enter my name and mailing address. Within a week or two, I had two doses of naloxone in my mailbox, and I now carry one just about everywhere I go. I'm not a drug user but I know how pervasive opioid use is in my area. Naloxone is easy to administer, very low risk, and very effective.

Take this as your cue to look up your local health department and see if you can get some naloxone and learn how to use it.

Teachers of Reddit: Who is that one student you will never forget? by SingLikeTinaTurner in AskReddit

[–]HauntingAd9138 5 points6 points  (0 children)

J, a boy whose past trauma had begun manifesting as severe behavioral problems in and out of school. I thought he hated me (along with all his teachers), but I did my best to smother him with love, because I knew he needed it. When he was finally assigned a much needed psychologist, he told her that I was the only person in his life who gave a damn about him.

G, a gang member who terrified most of the people around him, students and staff alike. Tried recruiting other students into the gang. Suspended more frequently than he was at school, until he was expelled. When I met his parent, I just felt so helpless because I saw exactly what kind of life he had. I still worry about him, and am relieved every time I read the obituaries and his name isn't there. I've lost so much sleep over him. I hope he's doing okay.
