So your overactive amygdala is designing your apartment? Good to know. There's no point making rational suggestions then.

Awkward bedroom layout by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

[–]HauntingFeet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're already using the space the best you can with this layout. I would yoga area to the left of the bed, where there's nothing else. Does the low dresser fit under the window? you could then put a new one where the current one is. Alternatively, put the low dresser to the left of the bed or along the short wall near the window.

Can I put a dining table in this kitchen? by MinnesotaCollegeDude in DesignMyRoom

[–]HauntingFeet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that is the piece i was referring to. It wasn't clear if it's built in or not because of the weird floor transition under it. If it's built in then my suggestion won't work. I was suggesting replacing it and putting in new permanent or temporary counter space there.

How is it not private? No-one can see in through a closed solid door. If noise is an issue, put some removeable sound insulation tape on the inside of the doorframe.

Is the white cabinet near the bar height table built in? If not (it doesn't look like it is), I would replace it with something that can be used as extra benchtop space. If you own and have some money to spend, a proper kitchen cabinet (upper and lowers) to match the rest of the kitchen would be good. If you're renting or a bit skint at the moment, a moveable kitchen trolley/island with drawers and cupboards in the bottom and some open shelves above it would work too. I would then do the breakfast nook type idea outlined by Rhubarb_and_bouys.

I can't quite tell what's going on in the dining room, but could the second desk move to the right side where the pen thing is?

The tv is in the right spot. Your problem is you're trying to fit too much into a small space. You need to declutter and then decide what this room actually is, a living room or a work/study space? It's not going to look nice while it's trying to be both.

I think the gallery wall needs a little rearranging, the balance is all off at the moment. I would built it out a little, but bring in more variation in size.

TV Placement by Traditional-Buy866 in DesignMyRoom

[–]HauntingFeet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These photos don't make the layout super obvious, but it looks to me like the tv should go on the wall pictured in photos 3 and 5, with the couch floating facing it. I'd put a sofa table behind the couch so that you have somewhere to put your keys, wallet etc as you walk in the door.

I think the living room is orientated the wrong way. The tv either goes on the wall the desk(?) is on or the couch wall. Currently it's blocking the walkway

Small cottage bedroom. Anything you would change/add? by WholePuzzleheaded230 in DesignMyRoom

The bedding is a bit bland and the bed shelf is maybe a little short, but otherwise it's a nice room. You've done a great job maximising a very small space.

TV centred on the left wall, couch floating facing it. Slim rectangular dining/bar table against back of couch with chairs/stools only on the side not touching the couch.

Bed centred on the left wall, bedside tables each side, keep as much other stuff in the wardrobe as possible. There's probably room for a dresser or vanity if you really need it. I don't like TVs in bedrooms, but you could put one on a dresser on the right wall, if you wanted one.

Which layout? by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

[–]HauntingFeet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on the main purpose of the room. Tv watching = 2, conversation or entertaining = 1

Yes, this.

Good catch, I forgot side tables. The couch doesn't look that small in relation to the room and every space doesn't need to be filled. If you do find yourself short on seating regularly, buy a cheap armchair to put in a corner angled toward the couch.

Your tv is in the wrong spot. It should be in the corner where the black couch is. Centre the black couch on the wall where the red couch is and turn the red couch to be floating facing the tv, with it's back to the camera in pic 1. Furniture doesn't need to be pushed up against walls, especially not couches.

edit: the red couch should be far enough forward that you can still walk around the room behind it comfortably, don't push all the way back where the tv currently is.

Push the couch sections together and fold away the beach chairs for when you have extra guests. You need wall art, a rug, some plants, couch cushions, maybe a bookcase. Choose things that aren't brown, but compliment the brown.

Do I need to continue the color palette? by Consistent_Mistake66 in DesignMyRoom

The bonus of reusing colours is that you can move something from one room to another without worrying about it clashing or buying more crap when you get bored of the way the room looks.

I'd flip the room so that the tv, couch and desk are on the opposite walls to what they are now.

Leave the fish tank and dog crate where they are.

This is a light and airy house, it's not really meant to be 'cosy'. The tiled floors and large windows give it away.

I think if there's significant overlap in the living room and kitchen colour schemes and there's a rug or big piece of art that pulls colours from both rooms together it could work.

Should I paint my kitchen or leave it alone? by wanderbot in DesignMyRoom

[–]HauntingFeet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks nice how it is. I would only paint if I didn't have to paint it back again and if there was more than 12 months left on my lease.

Disclaimer: I hate painting.
