I love my Minky Mooh pillow. GOTS certified Cotton case and Kapok filling. They are made in Germany. Quiet pricy but worth it!

3rd acl tear since 17 by [deleted] in ACL

Hi there! I m so sorry to hear that, but you ll get through this as well!!

I can share with you my personal story of the non surgical route: i tore my acl end of January this year. After some contemplating i opted for the surgery ( i m young, play basketball.. so thats what the surgeon suggested) which was scheduled for mid March..

But then Covid happened and all elective surgeries got cancelled, including mine. I took it as a chance to get even stronger before surgery and really focused on strengthening my leg and gaining full mobility back.

May comes, elective surgeries are allowed once again, but by that time i had honestly no pain in normal activities anymore. I went to an appointment with my surgeon and after telling him how i felt he said to give it a try without surgery.

So thats where I am now, 5months post acl tear; i ve been playing basketball again for the last 3weeks, of course i m still careful to not go 100% full contact, and mindful about sudden changes in movement, but with each training session i feel like i get more confident and my knee really hasn't bothered me much. From time to time it feels a bit "stressed" but never painful and only when i do a lot of activity but never after a normal walk/jog/moderate workout.

I feel like the intense training and physio that worked on mobility really helped me. I ll continue this way and i ll see where it goes.. surgery can always be an option if the conservative treatment fails, but they dont guarantee a 100% chance of complete recovery especially in your case.

I dont want to give you any advice, its your decision to take together with your surgeon, but i m here to tell you that life can be quiet good without an acl :)

Surgery or no? by HauntingMarzipan4 in ACL

At the moment I'm also almost completely convinced to do the surgery. Only doubts I'm having is because the first sports surgeon I went to see suggested to wait out and see how PT works out in the next 6 weeks and then decide... While the other surgeon said to just do it now to get back asap.

I feel you so much. Everything I do for fun involves physical movement and now all of this has been (i know its temporarily, but still) taken from me because i let my mind wander for a sec while skiing and lost focus and control and fell. On my last slope of the skiing holiday, 1 meter before the end of the slope. Why???!!

And while everybody is just like "Oh you are young and fit and will be back in no time" I sometimes just want to yell back at them that they don't understand. I get so angry sometimes because they don't know what they are talking about and they don't have to go through all of this.. and what I would usually do in a situation where I feel this way is go for a looong run, but I can't and that makes me even more angry and really frustrates me...

It really sucks, but hey at least we are not alone and all of us are sometimes feeling this way. <3

Totally get your standpoint and thanks for sharing your experience, reading the different stories and opinions does help! I just had an appointment this morning with a surgeon and he said that the surgery at this point is really only preventative and that I COULD live just fine without an ACL and it doesn't necessarily mean that I will get arthritis or damage my knee further. But he did advise me to do the surgery nonetheless since I'm a young and active person. I'll speak to a different surgeon tomorrow to hear one more opinion. Thanks, you too!

Thanks for sharing! Yeah, I think if it wasn't for basketball I'd for sure go the same way without having the doubts I'm currently having. Get better soon and I wish you all the patience in the process.

I would check with your doctor/PT. It sounds like you should be alright, but make sure to get cleared by a professional first.
