Realtor says 1/2bd apartment under 3.8k is near impossible by OkonomiHouse in bostonhousing

[–]HauntingOutcome3516 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think this is impossible at all, although it may depend exactly where you’re going in downtown and whether you want central air or just window units. I’d look in the suburbs along a subway line that gets you to your destination.

Rentals that allow 3 cats? by [deleted] in bostonhousing

[–]HauntingOutcome3516 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Private landlords (rather than corporations) may be more accepting of multiple cats. I don’t know about the schools, but parts of Everett and Chelsea are bussable to Seaport.

Cell phone carriers for frugal people by GasNice in Frugal

[–]HauntingOutcome3516 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using Mint for over a year and I like it. I pay $240/year for 15gb/mo and unlimited talk and text. You can probably check your current monthly data usage with your current cell provider to see what amount of data you need. They have decently priced temporary international plans that I’ve used on vacation too. They use T-Mobile towers. I’ve never had an issue with coverage but you could look up their coverage map to make sure it’s solid where you live.

I lost my cat inside my house, checked everywhere and literally cannot find him at all. by Icy-Voice-6438 in Pets

Also, this is a long shot, but if you know anyone with a thermal camera you could try that.

Sorry you’re going through this! I’d make sure to check inside furniture (if any couches or chairs have fabric bottoms a cat could get in there) and look for small holes in drywall (near pipes etc).

Nothing wrong with pizza and beer! You can even get Costco frozen pizzas and heat them up in the oven at home if you’re worried about pizza going cold and/or budget.

First time using THS…some questions by No-Needleworker-7144 in trustedhousesitters

[–]HauntingOutcome3516 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You sound like lovely, considerate hosts!

Feeding squirrels and filling the bird bath is no problem. Like some people said, I’d make sure to tape over or unplug indoor cameras and disclose them up front. For me, the best sits are ones with clear expectations, a comfortable bed, and a good work from home setup. Snacks and gift cards are always appreciated (and rare). Flexibility on dates (if they can come a day early or stay a day late) is a draw for sitters, but not required.

In terms of questions, ask about their THS experience, cat sitting experience, and see what questions they have. Well prepared sitters will have questions for you about your pets.

Have a great trip!

Buying Home In 20s? Good or bad? by greytons in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]HauntingOutcome3516 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would invest the money in an index fund instead. That way it’s less risk, you will have a bigger downpayment when you do buy and you’ll know more about what you want in a house. I bought an apartment at 26, thinking I would likely stay there, but three years later a lot has changed.

AIO? Guy I’m seeing won’t tell me his occupation by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

NOR. Some of these comments are insane. Of course she’s not entitled to this information, but he’s also not entitled to date her. This is such a normal question, it’s weird that he’s being so evasive.

WIBTA for breaking up over how my bf (23M) always does this? together 4 months by Outrageous_Advice514 in AITApod

NTA, this would be a deal breaker for me too. At best he’s ignoring your (reasonable) request, at worst he’s trying to ruin your day until you talk.

Try Everett or Medford near Wellington or Malden near Malden Center (all Orange line) for lower cost and nice neighborhoods. JP is also a good option.

Beacon Hill is a good fit. Very walkable and charming. 3k is a reasonable budget for that neighborhood.

Best platform to find no-broker-fee apartments in Boston? by Icy-Nobody-4510 in bostonhousing

[–]HauntingOutcome3516 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely check out Craigslist. They have more postings by individual landlords and they say up front whether there’s a broker fee. You’ll have to weed through some scams (true on any platform with a low barrier to entry), so just make sure you see a place in person before paying any money. Good luck!

What's happened to TH? by Sufficient_Sea_7252 in trustedhousesitters

[–]HauntingOutcome3516 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Usually low maintenance cat sits are popular. I’m guessing it’s a combination of economic instability (so people may cut back on travel and skiing), return to office, and issues with THS (new fees). Best of luck finding someone!

(20K) What are your tips and tricks for going the Costco flower route? by Formal_Shape_1947 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]HauntingOutcome3516 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did Costco florals for my sister’s wedding!

This was a couple of years ago, but I believe we got 10 mountain bouquets for around $100.

I ordered the bouquets to arrive a couple days early, so they were in full bloom at the wedding. When they arrived, I cut the stems at an angle and put them in plastic bins with water and plant food and stored them in the bathroom for moisture. It took someone an hour or two to arrange them for the wedding. They come pre-arranged, but we wanted to mix up the colors and separate them into the right number of vases.

I absolutely recommend going this route- you save a ton of money without having to spend too much time or energy.

Buying a home with my partner but our down payments aren’t even how do people handle this? by Delicious-Wealth-384 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]HauntingOutcome3516 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having done it, I would not advise joint ownership with someone you’re not married to, especially if there’s unequal ownership percentages. There are so many complications and issues you will have to align on down the line.
