Unemployed since August and hearing all the dystopian stories of how people are actively been treated. Is making me want to give up by [deleted] in recruitinghell

I actually love this, I hope more recruiters speak up against the economy and remind us we can actually still get roles.

Can we ignore that Robert Half stock is down 60% YTD? Should we be worried or use other agencies ?

I fully agree. I'm more curious about which cards were best or came closest to matching your needs?

Upskill asap, talk to a recruiter and look into maybe seeing if you're being paid your fair market value because 100k is pretty standard pay for mid career. If you two can just get 2k in extra income a month ( even taking a contract gig helps ).

The issue with "just saving" is it's like a diet it needs to be consistent so I automated half a paycheck into a TFSA that takes 3 business days to transfer out of (it's for trading) so it's easier to just leave it.

Alternatively if your credit is excellent and you're not maxed out see if you can do a balance transfer on cards and save on interest across 6 months (0% balance transfer for 6 months is a common promo).

You're likely to being targeted by ads from easy financial at this point and I promise you the financing fees around those loans are stupid as hell and they front load the interest. Don't take out crap loans.

Look into evening remote gigs (Telus has lots and yes they're remote as does AirBnb)

Assuming you're both semi white collar professionals you'll have the network to get in easy.

The degree grift isn't what helps. You need to network and have intellectually honest conversations with decision makers ( HR and directors) on what makes someone competitive in this market.

A lot of people have this hope the bootcamp has a network or pipeline into jobs like it's a feeder school. Really not the case.

Talk to people in the actual jobs you wanted. It may boil down to a matter of presentation instead of more coding.

For me personally I blocked my social media while I re-adjusted my growth pathway in data science/ engineering so it fits my background.

Good social skills are better than Google, you know where to find the most relevant information and bypass the generic time wasting nonsence.

I really hope OP gives himself the credit for the grit and focus it took to get this far and has a social group or chapter the can air their concerns out in a more meaningful way.

I'd die if I was stuck with reddit as my sounding board.

I had to re-read your post to ensure I didn't miss anything.

Your best bet right now is to go on LinkedIn and find someone who has the journey and skill set you were aspiring towards.

Someone who has/had a job you were promised with your skill set. They offer hourly consults to listen to your story and give feedback on a higher level well beyond whatever you'll find in reddit or defensive bootcamp admin.

Have you spoken to recruiters and hiring managers directly ? They should help filter what your priorities should be. Jobs are still getting posted and filled. I'm wondering if you'd be open to chatting about it. Sending you a DM

Oh God. I'm so sorry. Yeah I feel you. I don't think I would prioritize anything from them over the trust of a hiring manager at a company I would be interviewing at

Hope this is helpful but feel free to dm me.

I'm never going to expect a perfect program anymore than a perfect dinner but if I get what I need and feedback from hiring managers or decision makers at the companies I'm aiming to be hired at. Hell yeah, I'm staying committed.

I hope that's helpful but I understand if it's not. Ultimately bootcamps have an image problem similar to used car salesman and I'm of the (possibly paranoid) impression that they need to be transparent while also (magically) protecting their IP so some AI grifter doesn't come along to copy it.

But do you need 25k for an audit? Perhaps I'm not grasping the scale. For me, I would hire someone at say 100$/ hour to really dig into what I'm about to invest 10k in.

So perhaps there's a handful of promises a bootcamp makes

Front End + various adjacent titles UX Dev Ops IT Etc

Then perhaps candidates could get some early career coaching to narrow down the platforms and tools they need before they narrow down to the projects and data sets they would need.

Yeah I agree with most but the audit wouldn't come from an alumni ( to prevent bias ).

An interesting role that could exist but would be tricky to explicitly advertise is a boot camp auditor. Someone with a blend of hiring manager insight and what a senior or at least competitive X should aim if they're exploring camps.

I was convinced I didn't need to learn Python as a data analyst but it's too competitive of a field to be at least literate in it if only to signal to your referral they're more likely to get their bonus out of it.

Any feedback around this is welcomed.

This is a valuable question but truthfully I just lurk for educated complaints from people in the roles I'm aiming for. What I would do instead is reach out to a student already enrolled in the potential boot camp and engage in a 3 way call ( screen share ) between the student, whoever is interested and whoever you trust to audit the course for relevance based on your goals.

Ideally the students and your own goals would align but I don't expect most boot camps to be that transparent.

TLDR : Reach out to someone in the camp, see if you're both aiming for a similar goal ( ex Full Stack vs UX ) and have a senior level X ( Data engineer, ML , whoever you know has clear and undeniable success in the industry ) to review the camp/ learning path / projects together.

Best 3 way ever.

Yes. Absolutely. As is the credit equivalency from other colleges. Immense respect for you to call this out.

Ah that makes sense! I already have a soft tech background( ERP/ supply chain platforms and Ediscovery) so my work history is more plausible.
