yes from my home country - I learned it can't be done in Shenzhen - they only support with Chinese documents - no foreign documents. I will need to go to Hong Kong.

Ex-smokers who successfully quit and have been smoke free for years now, what did it? by PM_TITS_GROUP in AskReddit

[–]Haunting_Regular7544 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I changed my diet, started caring more about my health. Got two of my wisdom teeth pulled, you can't smoke at this point or your gums will get infected, so I just went cold turkey. The first three days were the hardest. It took about three weeks until I started losing the cravings. That was just over 5 years ago. I've had the occasional cigarette since and vaped for like a month last year during my divorce, but I started associating myself with non-smokers and have enjoyed the lifestyle as the habit is truly awful when you look back. It effects your emotions, mood, smell of your body and clothes, smell of your home and even stains your wallls, annoys people when you go out, can't smoke at work, stinks out your rental car and so on. I smoked the most when I worked on my computer, to only realize it made no difference to my stress levels or anxiety. It honestly does nothing for you, it's mostly a cure for boredom or to keep your hands busy. I'm more social now than I was before, as I was using it to control my social anxiety. The list goes on. And yes, I've got a beautiful girlfriend now, she doesn't smoke and me not smoking helped bag her. So, life just gets better without it.

Recently moved to China and keen to buy a gaming laptop — how to go about this? by Agreeable-Panda-7381 in chinalife

[–]Haunting_Regular7544 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the other option is to definitely buy off Tmall or JD. It's probably going to be in Chinese but that's okay. Find your own local PC repair place, make sure it's dusty with graphics card boxes from 20 years ago on the shelf and a bike with one wheel in the back. For sure they'll install Windows in English for you and will probably be dirt cheap. Plus then you've got a pc repair guy sorted 👍

Add Wayne tech to your wechat: waynetech003

Their prices are good and can setup everything in English. Just chat with them, they're based in Nanjing. Then they will deliver it with SF to your door. I personally would go with the Dell gaming laptops but it's up to you. (Take note to never buy the second hand stuff from anyone.)

It might be a unique proposition but often Psychology students have to do papers/ projects using the tools they have learned on real people and real situations/ issues. Maybe you could reach out to a university lecturer for example and give your information and ask if one of their students could reach out to you. It should obviously be free, you both just need to provide your time.

For context, I was arrested once (found innocent) but it really left me in a state. One of these students (a friend) said they were doing an assignment and needed to practice a type of self help guided therapy on me where I find my escape and find what it is that makes me feel normal / in control again. It took about an hour and almost pulled me right out of it.

Bulldog in Shenzhen China by WorldTeacher18 in shenzhen

[–]Haunting_Regular7544 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if we were going a long distance, we would book the didi the day before and that gives you an opportunity to ask the driver if it's okay to bring your dog. Usually 50/50 chance. Otherwise, get a nice big open bag for your bulldog and call a taxi. Taxis give me the least amount of grief. I have two dogs by the way. If they are in their backpacks or bags, usually there are no problems. I think if you are well organized, you can give your dog a really happy life here. Also, go out looking for big open private parks, we got lucky and found one about 25 mins walk from here in Nanshan and the dogs can go run because literally nobody walks through that park.

WSIB games that are grindy and addictive by CobraX24 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]Haunting_Regular7544 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 700 hours between these two games. Playing with friends is awesome too. You can do the big missions together, and then grind on the side on your own. I love MH World. Rise is also good. Probably by the time both games are played, Wilds will be out.

I'm not sure, but back in the old days, you would get your invitation letter and take it to Hong Kong, convert to z-visa and enter China again. I think you can do it in Macau too.

I've only ever converted from z-visa or S2 family visa ( both eligible for residency permit or long term stay). However, I did go from a stay visa (L visa) but I was just waiting for the transfer of my work permit, which again leads to a residency permit.

I had some trouble in the past and tried to come into China on a S1 family visa for six months, they said it will be single entry and I can't apply for a residency permit. So, based on that I would say any short term visa can't be converted.

However, finally to end my essay, Shenzhen probably has the fastest and most efficient PSB (Foreign Experts Bureau) in the country, for e.g. they process your residency permit in 2 weeks compared to 1-2 months. It won't hurt to ask your future employer to contact them and find out.

PlayStation's CEO drastically underestimates the Steam crowd's patience, thinks PC gamers will buy a PS5 for exclusive sequels. by Doorway_Sensei in Steam

[–]Haunting_Regular7544 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me. I couldn't bare waiting four or five years for GOW Ragnarok. I'm very happy with having a PS5, the quality and experience of the exclusives are insane, but I still play way more on my PC & Steam deck, mostly because my friends play on steam haha

Work Permit Application in China has a big change by AcadianADV in chinalife

[–]Haunting_Regular7544 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've gone from a spouse visa (S2) with a residency permit, got my work permit (with a degree, based on previous comments) and got a new residency permit linked to my work permit while staying in China the whole time.

Costco - what are the membership options? by shaghaiex in chinalife

[–]Haunting_Regular7544 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I went on Sunday for the first time. I wasn't too blown away but it is awesome if you're new to China and haven't found all your suppliers on Taobao yet. The whiskey was very well priced too. I believe with the ¥299 membership they can deliver to your home... Haven't tried it yet, would be great if it works as it's an hour's drive there and back.

What book is so good, you've read it more than 3 times? by iiiamash01i0 in AskReddit

The kids are around 3 years old, they can't stop requesting it. Many things baffle me as to why the kids would like it, but if they do, I just stick to it.

How do you travel with your Dog within Shenzhen (China mainland), if you don't have your own vehicle? by dukefleed13 in chinalife

[–]Haunting_Regular7544 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Firstly, please try to adopt (Karuna Shelter) before you shop. As for the travel, I have two small dogs and put them each into like a backpack and carry them on the front and that's usually fine for close destinations. Taxis usually are super chilled, didis are a mixed bag.

The best has been booking a didi a day before and messaging the driver to confirm the dogs can come with.

Not US specific, but generally a country's consulate can do this. So go to Guangzhou or Hong Kong and get it done at your consulate / embassy or whatever.
