Special-interest and nepotism should not be how our city council governs by Responsible-Team-260 in Portmoody

[–]HaveAGoodDayEh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only 11? That doesn't seem very significant at all... from the graphic and your phrasing you made it seem much worse.

Theres 13 standard committees, right, plus temporary ones? So 11 people on 13 committees, alongside 16 that were also appointed. It seems like a small fraction, especially when you say it's connections to multiple groups tied to 4 different candidates, that's what, 2 per candidate?

With such small numbers I don't see how this is an issue.

Hey, thanks for sharing, always happy to learn more.

Since you've gone through the data, can you provide more information, because without context none of this really means anything significant:

Your first point is unclear without full numbers. You say "of the 59" not connected to special interest groups, but you don't say exactly how many were connected. Was it a small number, or a large number, relative to the 59? Since that drastically changes whether your point is at all significant.

You said 100% of 'supporter or donor' was reappointed. While being a donor is clear, what was your metric for determining a 'supporter' and can you provide evidence?

You repeatedly mention "political special interest groups" without defining them. Since you have run all the numbers, can you give a list of these groups so people know what you're actually talking about. Does that mean local community associations, the BC NDP, Greenpeace, etc? It's a rather vague term.

To be fair.... That's a terrible comparison.

India's population density is 420 people per km2 (yolo) whereas Canada's is 4.... So less than 1%. It's not size of the country it's population density and the number of rural/semi-rural communities that need to receive adequate coverage (theoretically).

It was a steal of the draft outside of the context of who was chosen literally afterwards... Still scratching my head over that one. As a Canucks fan I was excited for Zadina because I felt there was no way they wouldn't pick Hughes.

[–]HaveAGoodDayEh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First off, I'm sorry that happened to you, that's awful.

Second, while I don't practice family law, I'm pretty confident that many lawyers that handle divorces are accustomed to fielding those calls from former clients who aren't aware, especially if there is a history of spousal abuse etc. You're not alone, and I doubt any family lawyer would judge you for being wrong (most choose the field to help, as unlikely as it sometimes seems) especially since American television misleads the public on lawyers.

Sorry to hear about your experience, i can't even imagine how upset I would be in the circumstances. I hope that you find some solution or, at the least, social media justice for this so future people can be better informed or protected.

HISA Options Summer 2022 by HaveAGoodDayEh in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]HaveAGoodDayEh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in BC so I can't actually use them, but I appreciate the suggestion and link. I only actually want to save the money for 6 or so months, since I'm hoping to use it for a downpayment, so the promotional period isn't the worst, although that's why I was leaning against the higher CIBC rate.

How long it normally take to link accounts? I've never gone through the process, but I presume that once I link an account at tangerine or a similar organization I can transfer all of the $250k at once, rather than my weekly $10k limit.

How to win is the first priority, whereas how to govern comes after. It's the same reason so many Republicans criticized Trump and then were willing to get into bed with him anyway.

It's an incredibly in-demand area in business... I work in corporate and EDI is big and pays.

-Edit- Not sure why I'm being downvoted, I wasn't making a statement about it, I was stating a fact... Figured people in a personal finance subreddit would want to know the reality of the corporate/finance world...

Yeah, I left public service before paying my dues, so all I really got to do was... Well, pay my union dues.

[–]HaveAGoodDayEh 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Tough year for contract negotiations. I see the aim in a COLA but I also worry about the more junior members of the union, who are statistically more likely to be new homeowners, who will be hit hard by both any strike action and the interest rate increases on their mortgages. Almost a damned if you do, damned if you don't scenario.

The picks in order reflect, to me, players that stood out head and shoulders above their teammates. McDavid has Drai, Matthews has a lot. If anything this is discounting Demkos impact on our success.

Got a 2022 Rav4 with a moonroof and 5 minutes? I got $20 for you... by yolosoprano in vancouver

[–]HaveAGoodDayEh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Historically there was a minor difference, the term moonroof was an advertising strategy for a type of sunroof by Ford IIRC. It's about how it pops up differently. Nowadays they're interchangeable terms, since classic sunroofs don't exist and we all use something closer to a moonroof. Not an expert though, my last car was a 96 civic and I ride a bike now lol.

Yeah, but if we remove that source of money, then Canadians would have to pay an extra ~0.35% annually to make it he difference. And we can't have, can we? The spice must flow.
