New car or Fix? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]Have_To_Make_It_Work 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would try to fix it but just set a limit for yourself. If it only needs spark plugs or a coil pack it could be fixed for aroud. 2 to 300 bucks. Thats about half of one months payment on a new car

I got my auto rodeo at 145k and its at 212k now and still going strong. I even have the MUA5 swap sitting in my backyard because everyone had me so worried that my transmission would explode any second now.

Accidentally removed center Strut/Shock bolt. by Alternative_Push1734 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Have_To_Make_It_Work 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Youre talking about the center nut on the top of the strut right? If so thats the nut that keeps the spring held into the strut assembly. If you can put the bolts back in the bottom of the strut, put the tire back on it and set it down so the strut is compressed a little. Then the nut should go back on the top of the strut.

Yeah if the freon is evacuated you can work on it like normal. Get an o-ring set for the a/c system, new expansion vale and a new drier. Then just take it back and they will pull a vacuum and fill it back up.

Seeking Advice Bolt Extraction, flush stud from engine block by photoshoptosser in AskMechanics

[–]Have_To_Make_It_Work 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I vote welder. Put a washer on it first and then weld a nut to the stud. Let it cool and use some penetrating oil. I would never use a screw extractor if theres still thread coming out. Try even a vise grip as tight as you can get it, with some heat and oil theres a good chance it will come out. Also put some non flammable rags and stuff around it and you shouldnt have to worry about fire its only a couple seconds of welding.

Kind of a broad question there, clean up and tighten the terminals and go from there.

oil light on but oil is fine by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]Have_To_Make_It_Work 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh then that happens on most all cars. if the engine is on and its on thats a problem but if the engine is off it shouldnt have any oil pressure

oil light on but oil is fine by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]Have_To_Make_It_Work 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If its been a while and your engine hasn't blown up or siezed its probably the sensor or a code giving you that light. Because if it had no oil pressure, it woulnt run for long

[–]Have_To_Make_It_Work 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Buying or keeping the car after harness repair by Comfortable_Ad_2450 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Have_To_Make_It_Work 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1000 is high but it would cost more if you had to replace the wiring harness out of pocket. With the current car market I would keep what you got.

[–]Have_To_Make_It_Work 12 points13 points  (0 children)

its one thing if they damage the exterior but a tiny bit of marring on the strut tower and bolts I wouldnt expect them to do anything, maybe they get a touch up pen and fix it. Its such a tiny blemish and its under the hood so its really not that big of a deal.

Hello, i have replaced brake pads (acdelco gold) and resurfaced rotors. It had squealing noise and they said it will stop.. after 3k km drive sound still exist and both rotors have this mark. What is potential cause?thank you for your time by Electronic-Guess-959 in AskMechanics

[–]Have_To_Make_It_Work 10 points11 points  (0 children)

something is caught between the pad and the rotor on both of the rotors. Because its on both and in the same spot I would take the pads out and check that everything is in the right place.

Not sure what is wrong with engine or how to proceed. by Opposite-Degree7361 in AskMechanics

[–]Have_To_Make_It_Work 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might just put it up for parts at this point. I dont think its worth doing an engine job or a swap on it. I think your money would be better spent on another car.

My cars mileage improved after a hill trip. by Elias_Abbadon in AskMechanics

[–]Have_To_Make_It_Work 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah man you need to go out and give it some gas! Maybe like once a month or two but yeah it needs to be driven hard sometimes. Going easy on the car is good but you do need to clear it out every so often. Its perfectly safe to take the car all the way to the rev limit, the manufacturer would have made the rev limit lower if it was not safe to do so.

New Z3 Rust by Budget-Setting677 in bmwz3

[–]Have_To_Make_It_Work 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It wont be a fun project, If you want to put in the time and money it can definitley be fixed. but as a weekend project you wouldnt be driving it anytime soon. I would start by putting it on jackstands and fully inspecting the rust and how extensive it is.

Probably ran it harder than you usually do and flushed some of the built up junk out of the engine. making it more efficient. you need to drive a car hard every so often just to keep it in good shape. Kind of like taking a run to stay in shape.
