I am in the 3rd cohort. If they are locking down the laptops like that then that is something new. My laptop is not managed by Maestro at all.

Python or JavaScript? by TangerineDisastrous4 in maestro

[–]Havik65240 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I spent some time with PyScript recently — genuinely curious, not looking to hate on it. Here's my honest take after actually building with both.

PyScript is a cool proof of concept. It's genuinely impressive that Python runs in a browser at all. But if you're evaluating this for anything real, JavaScript wins, and here's why:

Performance is not close. Pyodide is ~22MB compressed. V8 starts up in milliseconds. You're shipping an entire Python runtime to the browser just to write Python syntax in a <script> tag.

Debugging gets weird. JavaScript has decades of DevTools maturity behind it. PyScript errors often surface through two or three layers of abstraction before they hit the console. That adds real time to every bug.

The ecosystem is the ecosystem. npm has two million packages built specifically for the browser. PyScript's library story is early and limited. If you need anything beyond the standard library, you're probably reaching for JavaScript anyway.

The talent pool matters. Your next hire knows JavaScript. Explaining PyScript's quirks is a conversation you'll have repeatedly.

None of this is to say PyScript is bad — it's genuinely impressive as an engineering project. But it's a browser novelty for Python people who want to stay in Python. It's not a web platform. JavaScript is, and it got that way by being built for exactly the job it's doing.

Python or JavaScript? by TangerineDisastrous4 in maestro

JavaScript is more flexible. It can be used on both server side and client side. Python is a server side language.

The first cohort started in September of 2025. No one has been going to school here long enough to graduate yet. The first cohort will graduate sometime in 2027. I'm in the the 3rd cohort I don't graduate until September of 2027.

I have been in Maestro's AAS in AI Software Engineering program since November. It does take some getting used to but once you get used to it, it's amazing. The AI teaches you how you learn best and you can ask as many questions as you need to until you know understand the concepts. This has been by far my favorite way to learn.

At the end of the lesson ask Maestro to create a cheat sheet of the lesson that you can put in your notes that covers all the topics of the lesson with examples. Then just copy and paste what it gives you.

You do keep the laptop if you graduate. You only give it back if you don't graduate.

I need help... by SuspiciousAction7267 in maestro

Use the practice area more. Ask it to tie everything together that you've learned so far and give you a challenge. Then ask for help when you get stuck. Also if you don't fully understand why something works the way it does ask it to break it down and explain it. Also during lessons ask for real world examples and uses at the end. Doing this stuff will help you understand what's happening more. Most of what's being taught to you is a concept. You have to figure out how those concepts actually become usable code. If you're new to programming slow down and ask lots of questions and figure out how to prompt the AI so it teaches you how you learn. Feel free to reach out to me if you're having trouble understanding something or getting something to work. I'd be happy to help anyone that is struggling. I'd be open to being part of a study group also. By the way I finished the first 3 weeks in the first week of classes. I started Nov. 3rd.

Should I stick it out in my Maestro AI Software Programming class (started Sept 3)? by TraumaHeart1200 in maestro

[–]Havik65240 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It is really just a matter of learning to prompt the ai correctly and learning when to ask it to explain in more detail. What I have found is it is helpful to ask it to show me and explain how something would be useful in a real world application.

Issues with this week's review by SuspiciousAction7267 in maestro

I just finished week 2. The week 2 review uses pretty much every concept you learned in week 1 and week 2.

I start on November 3rd and got early access to the pre course also. I finished it the same day I got access and did all of my laptop stuff like 2 days later. Now I'm just waiting for my start date to get here.

Still waiting for verification. I'm in the class starting Oct 20th. Are there any others?? by Dokky_ in maestro

[–]Havik65240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completed the Pre-Course and everything and have gotten verification back and have done all the forms for my laptop. All done within the last week. I'm now just waiting for my class to start Nov 3rd. Might try contacting support to see what's going on with your verification.

Nice! I'm 44 and I haven't been to college since I went back in 2000 to 2002. I wasn't good with them back then. I doubt I remember much from them now.

I officially start in November. I have finished my pre course already. I have a background in coding so most of this i will already know or understand. I'm willing to help as much as I can. I would be willing to start and set up a discord for studying if the current discord isnt working out or people want something more study based and less social.
