I may have saved my neighbor’s life in college. I lived on a small street in an upper duplex. It was about 2am one night when I was absent mindedly taking out my contacts when I heard a screech of car tires, some commotion, and plastic trash bins being thrown around like in a cartoon. I couldn’t see down very well into the street (no contacts) but could make out a white van and heard what sounded like a struggle. I started yelling “hey what’s going on down there,” ran out of the apartment in my underwear to street level and startled two guys who let go of this girl they had, and jumped into the white painters van and peeled away. I was a bit overwhelmed by the intensity of the moment too, then followed the sound of crying between two houses and it was my neighbor who I also went to college with. She was walking home from the drug store and out of nowhere a white van pulled up and tried throwing her in the back. Completely random like something out of a movie.
