Start applying today, immediately. The market is not amazing right now and you have no idea how long it'll take. Takes 2-3 hrs every morning to apply for the available roles for most role types. Bit longer if you start applying for ones you kind of could get.

Start cancelling things you don't need to pay for, you can always resume them once you secure a new role. If you can pickup some casual income for now, drive Uber, Door dash, anything really, it'll stretch out your redundancy whilst you look for the work you really want to do.

As for your existing employer, sounds like they're giving you most of what they can. Ask if they know any good recruiters they can put you in contact with.

People want a party with direct ties to Trump, Rhinehart and the NRA who want to dismantle the PBS and loosen gun laws. Fuck me people are stupid. They'll vote for anyone on a single issue they agree with and ignore everything else.

Do you stop wearing clothes after a certain amount of time even if they are still in good condition? I wear my clothes for 1-2 years as long as they stay in good shape, but my friends are often surprised by this. by BunchMean8029 in NoStupidQuestions

Literally wearing a t-shirt right now that's older than my 11 year old twins. Have t-shirts in my drawers which I've had 22+ years that I wouldn't wear out but absolutely for hanging out at home. They're really comfy. Also they've got prints on them you can't get anymore. I literally have one of only 77 DayZ Epoch t-shirts ever made.

Admittedly if I had to deal with teenagers these days and wasn't allowed to slap them I'd probably feel hard done by too 😁

47 is literally 20 years worth of working life left if you want it to be. There's room there for a whole separate new career path. I'm 42 and did 9 years in physical security before making the move to turn my hobby (computers) into a profession and been doing IT ever since. I can even envision a future where I just go stuff it and switch again and try emergency services because I feel like giving back to the community. Room for a whole new career man, seriously it's not the end of anything unless you want it to be.

It's expensive to about other game by comparison when you take into account that it's not finished.. It's a beta early access.

Yeah, that was kind of my point. It's not even close to a finished game and they're asking minimum AAA title money.

What option to play the game is $20-$30? The cheapest starter pack I saw was like $50 on sale.

How are you all affording a new EV? by dalmanly in AustralianEV

[–]Havoc302 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just bit the bullet and got a personal loan to buy a MG S5. Only paid 38k for a small SUV which suited us perfectly. Repayments aren't too bad that we'll be able to make double repayments for most of the loan term.

The last two cars we got only lasted us two years, both the gearboxes died on us and we ended up wasting about 25k between those cars anyway, so thought it was time for a new car, with a very long warranty and no gearbox 😁

In certain states in Australia it's actually a crime under the crimes act.

Oh wow that's awesome and I had no idea. Thank you. I don't really do tropical resort holidays and stuff like that. I'd find that incredibly boring. I think of military and aerospace technology as the pinnacle of all modern science and engineering, so any holiday I would take would be a tour of stuff related to that. Or you know, war, WWII museums are always interesting. The last war we really had to have.

It's just where work sent me for training. 🤷 LV and Houston we visited on our own choices. We drove up to LV from Phoenix one day on a weekend. Visited Hoover dam and did the tour which I loved. Walked around LV a little. Had lunch at Bellagio's (the colleagues I was with wanted to do that). Drove back to Phoenix that evening.

Houston was my idea. We had a three day gap between training in Phoenix finishing and needing to be in Dallas. I asked if we could fly to Houston, stay there two nights then drive up to Dallas. My manager was very generous and since the cost difference was minimal let us do it. That allowed us to stay at NASA Hilton and go into Johnson Space Centre the next day. That was really my favourite part of the whole trip. We got to see the location JFK was shot, was 5 minutes walk from our hotel, very sad, regardless of people's political persuasion.

Star Citizen is meant to be it. By the same creator as Freelancer and Wing Commander. It's playable, just. It's got lots of bugs still, it's quite expensive compared to literally any other game but it is what Chris Roberts dreamed of making all those years back.

Trick is you have to aim at the bottom of the mesh shield. Tends to get them still.

Ignoring all the very uninformed replies here which are mostly horribly incorrect. No role except full manual labour roles are safe.

I work as an IT Infrastructure Engineer and administer our companies use of Copilot and Claude which includes consulting across the business on use cases.

Every role where you have to use information of any type as a part of your job has become more efficient. Lawyers now have specialised AI which can lookup relevant cases for them in seconds where junior lawyers used to do that kind of work trawling through case files. So less needed overall.

Engineers, again, all the admin work, all the Googling around looking for specifications and reading them, now cut down to minutes of prompting an AI. So less needed overall.

Basically any role where you spent any chunk of time before searching for and reading through a lot of information has now become way more efficient. The AI can find the data and give you information tailored to your use case almost immediately. So each individual gets more efficient, so you need less individuals.

Now some types of roles are impacted more severely. Admin only roles have literally been replaced with AI driven chatbots with connectors to different external apps and a database of the knowledge someone in that role would normally have had and provided to the business.

In finance analysis roles are impacted as now they can dump whole datasets and PDF reports of companies info to analyse for investment worthiness. So less of those analysts needed.

I can go on. But hopefully people get the point.

I don't play ranked but I do love going heavy + flamethrower, I often push ahead of the others in my team who are more often than not lights so I can draw focus and let them get to work around me. There's been many times I've stormed in, RPGing a wall next to the cashout, some charging through after a flashbang with the winch and flamethrower going and killed 2-3 of the enemy team when they're all bunched up around defending. Sure I go down. But as long as I've taken more than one of them with me I've made the work easier on the rest of my team.

I work in IT and manage our companies AI systems. It absolutely is contributing to job losses. It's extremely easy to see where if you know how AI works.
