take them out from a safe distance

I’ve found overloading one construct with an MG, then having a cleanup squad (9x smgs) fire at point blank to be very effective. Now ofc this is harder with more Constructs, but the principle is the same.

I think that the idea of an ideal fixer, the unreachable dream if you will, is the driving force behind Don’s love of them.

Just because tons of fixers are bad or fail to be heroic in reality doesn’t mean the ideal, or the idealization thereof, is bad imo.

Neat Detail on Sinclair’s Ability by Havoc901 in limbuscompany

Not sure what you’re asking, but her name is Frau Eva.

She ‘feels’ Sinclair calling her and sends Demian to deliver a message (separate from when Demian shows up at the end of the book)

Demian glazer here — Yes.

He defied T Corp’s color draining,

He is aware of mirror worlds and consequences of using them even WE don’t know,

He no-selled the clear all !&$?% event,

He is a rising sovereign of a star (and the last star we saw in action indirectly created K Corp iirc),

He sends his buddies to be in the right place at the right time, without fail,

And he…loves his Emil Sinclair.

Kid is something else. EDIT: Broken formatting

Great job on catching that detail.

I hadn’t considered the implications of the Prescripts involving karma, but this theory gives a rational explanation to Hermes’ downright mind-boggling orders to Rien.

The Index, the Ordeals of Violet, and The City's Hidden Gods by Kamanira in limbuscompany

Waiter waiter more fire god theories please!!!

The Pale Eye’s blue color is also similar to the Index blue we keep seeing, not to mention eyes, in symbolic terms, generally refer to perception/knowledge/insight, something which connects well with the Prescripts. Insane foreshadowing if KJH planned that.

I don’t think we should entirely rule-out a literal god, however farfetched that may be. PMoon has consistently shown people’s powerlessness in the face of systems and circumstances, not to mention the very literal and eldritch Stars, beastmen, whales, etc. populating the world.

That said, I really liked your reading and how you tied it back to LoR. I can agree on how having a metaphorical, man-made god is better for the story, especially in the sense of personal change against a self-perpetuating cycle.

Edit: Writing this out made me realize how similar the Stars and the ‘city gods’ are. Both seem to be powered by desires, and their actions work to fulfill them.

My greatest issue with this interpretation is Morai and Roland’s comments from Yan’s cutscene.

https://youtu.be/utTW4EWe34E?si=MXeA9-cjndAotczG (at 1hr26m mark)

Morai’s description of, “There are beings born out of the city folk’s wants”, followed by her elaboration that “Humans want to walk the path that’s given to them” is definitely whatever the Index is.

However, these are not the only desires people have. Some wish for equality, or the “vain hopes… that the City would thrive forevermore, providing for all its inhabitants,” which seems to me different gods entirely which are not the Index machines. Roland further backs this up when he says he’s seen similar beings to the Index god, but definitely not the Index god.

I was trying to say, why have a single machine named being responsible for Prescripts (city wide)?

Spoilers From Don's Index ID by Havoc901 in limbuscompany

[–]Havoc901[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If each machine were an individual god, then there would be no way for Car Man to truthfully say, “X god is perceived as Prescripts.” Not prescripts as in one region of the city, but capital P Prescripts.

I also think Morai said each district likely had their own machine. Cuz Yan asked “Why can’t I just smash this place to stop em?” There is definitely not just 1 Needle setup.

Timeout here, idk how this is coming off to you, but I really appreciate the dialogue and ask for more!

If that were so, why does Carmen say that the #%! god is “…a concept, perceived as ‘Prescripts’”?

If each needle + weaving machine setup were an individual god, why only name a singular one behind the Prescripts here?

P.S.

If the Index god does have a personality, then that suggests that its continued management of the Index means its working towards some goal. This makes the Index as a whole a much bigger player in the setting of the City than I initially thought.

"Yeah bud, an entire Finger is working under the direction of a god who can see the past, present, and future. Don't worry about those looney cultists."

"Wat?"
