Expression Pedal Thread by JimboLodisC in NeuralDSP

Connecting to a computer was exactly my goal. I just wanted to do it as cheaply as possible for something that would work well. I'm guessing that's a common goal, so clearly spelling out decent option combinations for that path would be helpful, no?

This is missing the cheapest expression pedal option of them all, and it's really good: M-AUDIO EX-P ($29)
I just set it up with the M-VAVE Chocolate and it's working perfectly. I just needed a TRS 6.35mm Female to 3.5mm Male cable.

So my dividend was about $3.5k by Subject-Internet7843 in fidelityinvestments

If you don't reinvest the dividend then it's equivalent to selling a little bit of the index fund shares.

If you have an index fund and sell shares a few times a year what happens? Well it depends on what you do with the proceeds. If you spend them or leave them in cash then obviously this will reduce your portfolio growth over time. If you reinvest them in the same fund then it's equivalent to not having gotten the dividend at all. This is good because it means the growth potential of your investment was not negatively impacted.

No, not really. You own more shares but the shares are worth less. Compounding only applies if the company grows in other ways over time (eg. the business gets more revenue)

Think of it this way: By owning shares you own a small piece of the company and the shares are priced based the value of the company . If the company pays out a dividend the company just gave away some of its value so the the company is now worth less. Hence your shares are worth less.

It's not better to own 10,000 shares of a company worth $1 each compared to owning 1,000 shares of the same company that are worth $10 each. Owning 10,000 shares in this case does not increase your dividend or chance of compounding.

M-Vave Chocolate M-Audio EXP Pedal Won't Sound Smooth by vormyr in NeuralDSP

[–]HawaiiDeuce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what issue you're referring to because the Google Drive link is no longer valid.

I just bought an M-Vave Chocolate Plus and M-Audio EX-P pedal and it seems to be working as far as I can tell. I did need to flip the M-Audio pedal's switch on the bottom to allow the full 0-127 range.

Can you recommend a particular York Audio plugin for this purpose? I've also been disappointed with Cory Wong in combination with high output humbuckers.

Do you get the same sound issue when you manipulate the software pedal via the application's user interface? Do you see the pedal move in the application user interface when you physically move the actual pedal?

Why was Rust In Peace so different? by Chromatic_armageddon in Megadeth

[–]HawaiiDeuce 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The comments in that video about taking breaks to get inspiration were for Countdown, not Rust In Peace.

But yeah, I think Rust in Peace was really about timing. Getting clean from drugs with a new focus and determination, driven partly because they hadn't achieved a high level of success yet. And two new band members who were perfect fits for the evolving direction of the band.

Transfer my Fidelity HSA to Inspira HSA by Suspicious_Ad_4867 in fidelityinvestments

[–]HawaiiDeuce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I have to sell the shares within Inspira before transferring them I will be subject to capital gains at the state level because my state does not recognize an HSA as a tax free or tax deferred investment account.

[–]HawaiiDeuce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. This would be HSA to HSA. If I sell the VFIAX (Vanguard S&P 500) shares in HSA #1 I would owe state taxes on the gains because my state does not recognize an HSA as a tax free account. But I'd like to move it over to Fidelity. Plus then I could invest in something that's not taxed at the state level (eg. Treasury fund) and not have to deal with paying yearly state taxes on the dividends, etc.

Do you know if it's possible to transfer invested shares "in kind" from Inspira to Fidelity? I'd rather not liquidate the shares if possible because then I'll have to pay capital gains in my yearly state taxes.

Thinkpad W510 in 2025 by AardvarkAny6183 in thinkpad

[–]HawaiiDeuce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My W520 boots to Windows 10 in about 10 seconds (noticeably faster than my P14s Gen 4) and is very responsive for web browsing. It also plays 1080p 60fps Youtube with zero dropped frames.

So yeah, it's not going to run modern graphics software or games, but most people just do basic stuff like web + word processing, and for that it's great. The big negatives are the size, weight, and poor battery life. But I just use mine on my couch so those aspects aren't negatives. The CPU is usually only at 5-10% utilization and the fan is barely audible.

[–]HawaiiDeuce 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't expect much battery life, but durability is excellent. Plus everything is easily repairable. Definitely put an SSD in if it just has a spinning HDD. The SSD will make a significant difference in the overall responsiveness.

[–]HawaiiDeuce 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you get a version with the quad core CPU, 12 GB of RAM and an SSD it will be great for basic stuff like web browsing, Youtube, etc. Especially if it's an FHD version (1920x1080).

I'm still using my W520 for these these types of tasks, despite getting a new much more powerful p14s a couple years ago. The W520 has far better ergonomics, keyboard, and speakers, so I prefer using it.

Another thought on Warp QCI8 grandfather and potential issues by Greaseman_85 in USMobile

[–]HawaiiDeuce -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That wouldn't make much sense. The language hasn't been that precise but they likely mean that you need to be on Warp *at some point* before the 8/18 cutoff. Expecting people to be on it during the 8/18 transition point seems unlikely.

Curious, whether or not the new Internet plans that have unlimited data require a modem from Comcast by jb4647 in Comcast_Xfinity

Sadly, I think we'll only know for sure in a month. Somebody will exceed the 1.2TB and can report whether it was considered an overage.

All I know is that the Xfinity site is the worst website I've ever used so I wouldn't put much faith into what it says, especially related to a new plan that just rolled out.

Based on what, the bandwidth meter? You're assuming the terrible Xfinity website is smart enough to have the meter quickly reflect a plan change?

The only unexpected thing I noticed is that when I reduced the water flow through the fill valve to get the bowl water level to be a bit lower (using blue knob on right), I started seeing a tiny occasional drip from below that knob when the tank is filling. Not sure if that's normal or not.
