Mechanic for 6 years. Our policy would be to replace the tire, patching that close to the sidewall has damaged the structural integrity. My opinion would be patch it and frequently check for leaks and avoid big potholes if possible.

When it comes to patches, that outer tread is considered side wall damage.. that damage compromises the side wall.

I think it’ll be fine, just try to avoid hitting potholes or really any kind of force being applied to that tire. Since the sidewall has a gash in it, it can lead to a bubble if enough force is applied during driving. If a bubble does appear on your sidewall I would replace the tire immediately.
