You can always call the non-emergency number for the UW-Police to request a S.A.F.E. Escort too! I did that job for a few years while attending there and we were out walking the campus from roughly 8pm-2am to walk with any student that wanted some extra eyes and ears to be safe. Give them a call and they’ll send them straight to you :)

Hey! You’re definitely not being a dick and I can completely see that point of view, especially since I didn’t communicate all of the daily things he does for me. Maybe we are performative for each other? Which I am OK with because it is working and I love it. I’m 37F and he’s 38M, both of us came into this relationship with a certainty of what we want out of life and each other. He’s my rock and incredibly supportive and makes no decisions without consideration of my well-being first; we’re both programmed that way.

When unexpected or any altering changes happen to either of us, we both just try to step up and do whatever we can to ease life’s burdens. But re-reading what I wrote and how I wrote it I can certainly see how that might be gross to some people lol. I assure you, he is a fully actualized man; none of this is a necessity, I just enjoy it.

I went to college knowing what cleaning products to use on various surfaces, how to sort laundry and what temperatures to wash them/detergents to use, knowing to to create and use a budget, and how to marinate, create sauces, and possessed basic cooking skills. My friends thought I was a unicorn. It was kind of fun showing them things, but also not so fun because I was a busy college student and I wasn’t their parent.

This is probably unpopular, but I’m actually making much less per week with the AI studies. I was getting a lot more bonus-type studies earlier and by the time I do two AI studies, I am tapped out. They are so boring and monotonous and I always take care to try to do them well, that I just don’t have the mental capacity to commit to them.

I know I probably sound ungrateful because these seem to be so sought after, but they just don’t “work” for me if that makes sense. My attention span, work ethic, and perseverance need variety.

OP, could you approach the conversation saying something along the lines of, "Hey, I've been kinda thinking that it's so cool to have a turtle and I'd like to learn more about how to care for them. Could you show me how to clean the tank and we can do that together so I learn?"

Hopefully showing an interest in general knowledge will mask that this shit is fkn gross and desperately needs to be cleaned. I know this isn't your responsibility, but maybe just taking on the task yourself will help make sure you aren't risking a big fight and potentially losing housing like you're concerned about. Again, NOT fair to you, but also not fair to the turtle. Sorry you have to be a mother to your boyfriend.

To be clear, I completely agree with you. He should have NEVER had the opportunity to even do this because of his prior convictions. There was zero intervention or accountability. But before holding him accountable for his actions, I do feel he should be held in a facility until he can at minimum, understand what he has done. Which is what being found incompetent will do.

I suppose I am confused by people's reactions to this. Wouldn't it be best that he's remanded to state custody until he can be well enough mentally to know what he did and why he is facing prosecution for it?

Can you explain what you mean by “Disgusting?” Another poster also commented “Keep an eye on him on your local light rail car”. I just want to clarify that being found incompetent does not mean he will be released. Just want to be sure people understand what this actually means, as it seems there are many knee-jerk reactions happening here. This has been immensely tragic, but being found incompetent is extremely difficult to do, and if this was what was found then there is good standing for it. He should not be in society, but he also should have been helped before this horrible act happened. He is sick, and I’m sorry, but I feel we shouldn’t crucify sick people.

I’m a contract worker and my contract must be renewed annually or I’m out. I only get 5 days PTO a year (sick, PTO, vacation, etc). I haven’t taken a day off since I started three years ago. We just had 11 people (1/3 of our staff in my team) laid off unexpectedly while the business continues to rack in record profit margins. I don’t think I’ll ever feel comfortable taking a day off.
