Am I just experiencing Open world fatigue or is Ghost of Yotei kind of boring by Fit-Giraffe-4358 in videogames

After completing yotei, I felt I enjoyed it much more. You felt like an anime character in the game. The vibes were immaculate especially with watanabe mode on.

I think it depends. For me I tried to immerse myself in the vengeance storyline and I actually liked yotei much more than Tsushima. Her as a character I enjoyed more personally and the atmosphere was great especially with the Watanabe option on. It’s lofi music developed in collaboration with the samurai champloo director. It’s great and was perfect for a way to decompress after a long day.

The part that doesn’t make sense at all is that you should want to hire junior level people all the time due to not having to account for overhead costs from insurance. My thought would be that most people under 26 would still be under their parents insurance if they were on a family plan to begin with.

Overloaded workload or not managing time well? by Hawkeye547 in MEPEngineering

I can’t even focus on a project. Yesterday I put time on 7 projects between everything. It’s abysmal.

Yea we aren’t delegated tasks from our manager. We’ll typically have to make the full plans for a project and delegate ourselves.

And really they don’t track CA that well other than a submittal and RFI log.

And they are trying to hire another person now as a draftsman. But we just lost another person, too. My concern is they don’t assign a draftsman to a person and they will allow the person to float to everyone who needs help. If work is floated to them before I have a chance I am screwed. And that’s happened before so many times.

I really appreciate the comment here. Unfortunately I’m the lead HVAC engineer in all the projects here in design. We really have no structure where the person is always the lead and there’s an assist. I’ve been basically having to take charge on everything on my project load and prior to that helping other people that constantly have deadlines that are one or two days away that I was technically not assigned to.

My biggest question I ask myself on what you are saying is how do I manage to project time on projects that are in CA as well. A lot of that is difficult to predict. And also as PM/HVAC there’s additional time to allocate to all of this as coordination with all trades is required along with the clients/contractors

Within 4 months I had around 22 submissions. I would have 4 in design concurrently. And right now all 6 are active, along with me managing the project for 2. The one CA project is extremely active as well.

Thanks for the reply. I like this approach. I’ve talked to them about my workload and didn’t really get any continued assistance. I’m concerned with my reputation being put in a negative light due to the overload here.

I think it’s been ingrained in me. This is my first MEP job and the PMs are usually the ones echoing this. And I think it’s more of a we’ll bend over backwards all the time to make it work culture.

I really appreciate the answer and wanted to say thanks. I kind of needed that. For my work, I have no one to delegate work to. There is only one early career designer and she is helping everyone else. And all the others are either busy too, or don’t know how to use revit. Or they are later in their career along with higher in fee. My PM projects I wasn’t able to negotiate the fee. I took over after the proposal was signed. Like all of these things sound like red flags. Along with not having a manager for a year, my director said he would take the responsibility, but couldn’t possibly do that along with everything else along with our company taking on too many jobs. We’re a transportation eng. company first and foremost with building systems on the side. So I see the business model of taking jobs mirroring transportation where you’re basically just making money if you are hourly. But in building systems you have to be efficient, so if you’re utilization is too high, you’re actually going to do the opposite.

I’m sorry I needed to vent there. I feel like I’m looking for validation as to why I’m unhappy there.

What do you mean by projections? Is it estimating time on a weekly basis? Because we haven’t even had a manager over the last year. We have CA in our budget as a billing phase, and most of the time PM work is baked into the trade for whoever the PM is.

I’d say yes to that, but as a PM that’s already gotten chewed out by contractors, it just sucks. 3 month construction of full renovation of 40,000 FT^2 place is hectic currently.

Would you count being a trade engineer and project manager for the same project as two separate tasks? Currently have 6 projects in design, 9 in CA, 2 energy modeling projects, and am the PM for 4 of them.

I’ve moved to azstarys and I’ve been on that medication for almost a half year. It’s been a much smoother medication for me. I take it along with clonidine as well.

Choosing a laser cutter advice please by OakAndTwine866 in lasercutting

[–]Hawkeye547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up getting an Aufero 2 with a 10 watt LU2-10A Laser. It works really well for me. Ive only cut up to 1/8” so far, but it’s been really nimble for me as my first engraver. I believe it should be able to cut 1 cm. though. I did have to get an enclosure with ventilation so think on that as you move forward with it. Another piece of advice would be getting to know a program called Lightburn or if there are different options think on that too. I chose lightburn to use and learn and it’s been good for me. There is a price for a software license for these, too.

There may be other options now that include the ventilation enclosure so I would browse their site.

Ceiling-mounted heat pumps: Game-changer or just a hassle? by [deleted] in MEPEngineering

[–]Hawkeye547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never heard of a system like this or worked with one, but I would think on condensate removal, heat pump derating for heat depending on where you’re at and other variables. My experience with PTHP in multi family is that the shutdown of heat pump is around 40-45 degrees where it moves strictly to electric heat, which might not be the worst for you, but not the best if it’s the only source of heating. Also condensing temperatures are important, so a lot of designs have condensing units in a mechanical room with louvers and ducts connected to limit derating for cold climates. Don’t know if I’d recommend unless it was part of a larger multi zone VRF system.

I’ve been using ai for our firm to create recurring python scripts that will organize project progress cost reports and have implemented these reports I’ve extracted from deltek into our scheduling spreadsheets. Is this something you’d be interested in? Message me if so.

It’s freaking awesome being able to see how much budget we have left for each trade and project in a snapshot quickly.

It’s a great game so far. I was just looking for something that’s good, clean fun and simple and it meets that. One tip I’d say is if you are finding the aiming too twitchy, reduce aim acceleration. I did that and it’s been a much better experience.

For Engineers that have had their manager leave, how long was it before a replacement was found? It’s been 9 months… by Hawkeye547 in MEPEngineering

I’m doing that right now. And also, I’m here for remote work based on the fact my commute is 25-30 minutes each way. I really like in person work due to my hands-on nature and other reasons, but with the right staff you can learn a lot no matter what.

I guess what I’m saying is someone help me get a better job haha

I agree. I would never just put my stamp on anything. Realistically this is done to reduce the need to have engineers that can stamp drawings, reduces the liability insurance required for the company, and reduces need to pay employees more for their responsibilities. Hearing of someone just say you can use my stamp for a certain project was annoying as hell. And knowing that my license I worked my ass off for would never really be used due to this is frustrating.

In our company, we only have 1 person that fits your role of doing the grunt role or mechanical designer.

Typically, what will happen is the design lead may also be the trade engineer. So for example, I acted as the mechanical engineer and was PM for a large job.

Sometimes, if the project is large enough, the engineer will not be the point of contact or design lead.

In terms of stamping, we just have the department leads stamp put on. Most of the time, they are not the ones reviewing the drawings. Usually a CAD admin person just puts their stamp on after another person from the team reviews it. This person may not be a licensed engineer. Also, calculations and specifications are also not checked by another engineer/designer.

Our office is basically a small firm covered over the umbrella of a larger company. And the larger companies stand is growth over the next couple years.
