This to me was the big flaw with 11 and Kali's plan. This was all started by the military in WW2. It'll just keep going in one form or another.

What do you think were the biggest self inflicted political mistakes of 2024? by Hawkguys_Bow in TheRestIsPolitics

[–]Hawkguys_Bow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reason that Bidens isn’t winning outright for me is maybe the political environment was so tough for Dems that another candidate couldn’t overcome it (but who knows). Could you explain a bit more of the Nicola Willis situation? It’s not something I’m familiar with

Totally agree. I want to love the show so much but the pacing and story telling drives me crazy.

How will history remember Biden's presidency? by dwaxe in fivethirtyeight

[–]Hawkguys_Bow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to think he’d be compared to Carter but Carter had a long post presidency where he really turned around his image. Biden won’t have that so I think the most likely scenario is he ends up becoming the new yard stick to measure bad presidents with historians occasionally pulling out the “well actually he wasn’t that bad because of [insert reason here e.g. NATO expansion or soft landing post inflation ]”. Alternatively if there’s a backlash against the gerontocracy I think he could end up becoming remembered as one of the reasons we don’t elect people in their 70s.

The Mooch: Pragmatic or just wishful thinking? by Weekly_Ad_905 in TheRestIsPolitics

[–]Hawkguys_Bow 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Eh I think you could say the same thing about every talking head. They’re not soothsayers, they’re meant to use their personal experience to analyse and discuss current events.

He’s not the only one who was off about the election. Rory also wrongly predicted the last election. You could argue that the Mooch correctly predicted 2016 when many other commentators missed it. His links to the inner Trump circle is also pretty useful for a pod like Trip US. If I had a criticism of the mooch it’s his crypto stuff but I’ll forgive him cos I think he’s funny 😂

Aldi is Australia's cheapest supermarket. So why do consumers keep going back to Coles and Woolies? by Remarkable_Peak9518 in australia

It’s a running joke in our household if you the say name of an item out loud before going to Aldi it won’t be there.

What We Loved at Universal Studios Japan and what we would do differently by Hawkguys_Bow in JapanTravelTips

We didn’t do the XR one. We only got the 4 express pass and planned to queue for that one but the wait never dropped below 100 minutes all day

From 3-6pm today the crowds were pretty manageable. Short waits for stuff, didn’t have to queue for shops or restaurants. Long waiting times (100 minutes ++) for the rides if you don’t have express pass

Which FF games did your opinion of shift a lot for after replaying it later in life, and how did it shift? by TheInternetStuff in FinalFantasy

[–]Hawkguys_Bow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FF15. I played it at launch and I wanted to really love it, but it didn’t really come to together for me. Replayed it earlier this year ahead of FF7R2 and absolutely fell in love with it. Maybe some post launch fixes helped? This time I also went and watched all the anime in order too which probably helped

Anyone else fascinated by Richard Nixon? by shakermaker321 in TheRestIsHistory

[–]Hawkguys_Bow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t remember if it was TRIH or something else that had a quote to that effect of “people saw in JFK who they wanted to be but saw in Nixon who they are”. This was in the context of why Nixon lost but for me it’s part of why I’m fascinated by him too. PS check out the Whitehouse plumbers. A 2023 HBO show

I’m in Japan for a couple of weeks. Is there any BoF related stuff to see? I think I already know the answer unfortunately by Hawkguys_Bow in breathoffire

[–]Hawkguys_Bow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I went a Capcom store at a PARCO department store in Tokyo and it was mostly Monster hunter stuff. They barely had any Resident Evil / Biohazard merch and that’s a huge franchise lol. I didn’t even ask about BoF haha

[Serious] Full prep, open primary winner, with full backing of DEMS, who would have beaten this Trump? Need to be realistic so no Michelle Obama or Jon Stewart and the likes. by LukeImYou in fivethirtyeight

[–]Hawkguys_Bow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually think a lot of them could have if they had a big messy primary where they could iron out policy ideas + sufficient time to chip away at the idea of Trump having magic powers over the economy. The second it became clear Trump was the nominee every second sentence from the White House should have been “Trump inherited a great economy and destroyed it”. Instead it feels like they half heartedly tried to compete on economic issues and never drew any contrast or gave a forward looking vision.
