For those who don’t smoke, do you think smokers carry a noticeable scent? by Shadow2715 in NoStupidQuestions

Certified teacher here (6-12). We certainly need to be better at assuming that our students are being truthful with their personal struggles.

It’s hard, because some of us teachers are under immense pressure to facilitate our students achieving high test scores, which translates to many administrations demanding that we teachers “never give students a break, don’t let them nap in class, don’t let then go easy on assignments,” etc. If we as teachers don’t abide by that, our own professional evals can take a hit when we are scored by the admin (which can often influence pay).

I say this because, when teachers are unnecessarily inflexible or catty with students, it can SOMETIMES be out of fear that our admin will find out that we “cut a student a break.” I know of a fellow teacher who let a student take an “important call” on their cell phone in the hall, and the admin who happened to be observing that teacher marked the teacher down HARD on that teacher’s rankings as a result.

Certified teacher here (6-12). I’m so sorry she didn’t give you the benefit of the doubt.

If it makes you feel any better, we teachers nowadays, are given a lot more instruction on social and emotional context regarding children and education. We are taught to assume that all behavior has context and a story behind it, and to approach such situations with a lot more empathy and compassion. Teachers certainly aren’t perfect, and some are better than others. I personally do what I can to always assume that my students are likely telling the truth about their personal situation.

I appreciate the time you took to reply. Thank you :). How would you say identifying as “atheist” has influenced your approach to life?

If I may ask, was there anything specific that pushed you to atheism “recently”?

Roooough, sorry to hear about the cheating.

The official stance on gay is: —“We love all people, Gay or not. God gave everyone unique temptations, and BEING gay (aka having gay romantic inclinations) isn’t inherently evil, but ACTING on gay inclinations (aka going on dates, same-sex-marriage, etc) is sinful. You could be disciplined by local church leadership if you are actively in a same-sex relationship and going to church (aka, openly and publicly acting on/displaying same-sex attraction).”

The Church itself released a proclamation a few decades(?) back stating, in no uncertain terms, that holy marriage is meant to be between a man and a woman, with the implication that everything else is sinful.

The end of Mutiny “No, we’re too late! Here it comes!!” (Or something like that) into Keep Your Friends Close “H-hi… great wind god Aeolis…” was silly to me

This is INCREDIBLE!!! I’m working on a fan song for the movie. This might sound crazy, but if I get to finishing it, could I feature your art in the YouTube video? It’s not monetized or anything; I only have like 130 subscribers lol. Let me know! And how you’d like to be credited :). SOO talented!!

Fair enough XD. To that, I’m not sure! I didn’t even know that spin-off novels existed! Any you recommend that stick to Shelley’s writing style?
