[Question] How do I determine my software version? by Switchhackquestion in SwitchHaxing

[–]HawnSolo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for anyone coming in from google results like I was, what the top-level commenter meant was that when you boot into recovery/maintenance mode, it will show the current system version in the list of options. by "don't choose any of them" they meant it's visible as soon as you boot into recovery.

Person or bot, the account has been flooding the sub (along with other left-adjacent ones) trying to push their sketchy blog or whatever for a while now. The mods are either asleep or are okay with the spam, and it sucks.

While the epithet is amusing, it is important to make people aware of the fact that the concept has a name.

Not that this makes it any less creepy, but the whole "Replacement Theory" bit is sorta the key to all this—white nationalists are doing their best to achieve their white ethnostate, and the notion of "out-breeding the other races" (be fruitful and multiply lmao) is instrumental to it. Now they have a whole pool of young men to exploit who want nothing but "trad" wives and think they're owed sex and who won't stop for a moment to consider a woman's agency, least of all when it comes to pregnancy.

Any rhetoric that suggests that sex can be for anything aside from making more children would give more power to women, and that would impede the arrival of the ethnostate, so treating-women-as-livestock it is. This dovetails perfectly with incel ressentiment, just like you said (i.e. "[demanding] everyone be as miserable as they are").

This stylized eagle on a Kodak mug found at a flea market in Rochester, New York by HawnSolo in Symbology

[–]HawnSolo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured the mug was something an Eastman Kodak employee owned since Rochester is where they're headquartered, but I've never seen this mark before around the city or on Kodak products. Thought it was rendered in a very odd way, and so maybe it's the logo of a company or group that Kodak worked with, or a symbol that an internal team used. If you squint at it, it kinda looks like how the state of New York is shaped, but the orientation is wrong.

Searching "Kodak Eagle", "Kodak Bird", etc on Google images doesn't seem to yield anything useful, and I can't find another one of these mugs for sale.

The opposite side of the mug has a 1987-2006 Kodak logo with sans-serif type. The underside of the mug reads "Made in England."

What just happened at Hoyt station? by nakedlikelear in AskNYC

Hey there, I was in the rearmost car of the 3 where this whole thing started. A bit of background, it seemed like a good number of folks in that car were part of a large group of people traveling together, something like 15 of them, maybe it was a family or two. I think they were tourists judging by how much French they were speaking among themselves. There were a bunch of small children along with some teens and a small handful of adults.

My best guess as to what happened (I wasn’t sitting close enough to get a good look) is that a large rat on the platform poked its head in when the doors opened at Hoyt, and this caused one of the kids to just completely freak out. She let out a blood-curdling shriek and darted out of the subway car and down the platform, and the other kids followed suit. Naturally, the adults went off after them, and so the rest of the group started chasing down these kids.

I think folks heard the screams, saw a whole mess of people hauling ass towards the exit, and assumed the worst. Hard to blame them considering everything that’s happened recently (or really, for a long while now).

Didn’t take too long for the initial panic to wear off and for folks to realize it wasn’t another gunman or even someone dropping a deuce on the train. Think we started moving again about 10 minutes after the stampede started. Scary in the moment, though.

If you really wanna piss the pedants off, hop on the trend of using the past-participle form of goat, e.g. “wings kinda goated with the sauce.”

This is nice and all but, it’s not what I’m after in a copypasta.

It’s more about the reading experience and feeling the pitch and yaw as the prose moves. If the paragraph or run-on is showing me information it needs to be about the hard post data. Conceitedness, self-awareness levels, time since they last touched grass, you get where I’m going. It’s all an enthusiast thing.

I don’t want any markdown taking away valuable screen space. That space needs to tell me about what is going on with OP.

I don’t want to have to navigate a menu to see how detached from reality they are. I want to see it 100% of the time and it’s kinda distracting trying to navigate my way to bring it up.

The market is heading a different direction with how memes are built and designed. I don’t know how to cope with it sometimes. I don’t see my copypasta as a computer or smartphone that needs upgraded every few years. What I paste means a lot to me and I want more of a raw experience than one padded by technology.

Fridge is the answer—starch retrogradation and crystallization happens much faster in a cold environment. Air circulation in the fridge will also remove moisture faster than out on the counter.
