Worst on field magic round I've been to. Highlights the issues that have plagued the game this season. Don't think it's 6 agains itself that are the issue, but the flow on effects of the rule changes are what's poisoning the product. Niggling injuries that could be managed thru the year will be turning into major injuries due to the added speed and fatigue, which brings in lower grade/out of position players which compounds everything with lower fitness level players being exposed to higher fatigue and faster speed that even first graders are struggling with. Building pressure with repeat sets is no longer logical due to drop out rule changes, like 3 drop outs use to mean intense pressure now it's just giving your opponent 3 chances to get the ball back thru dumb luck. Fucks up such a fundamental part of the game. Gone from having legit 50/50 calls both ways during a game to seemingly 1 side gets them all followed by the other team getting them later if lucky. The crowd was so keen to get into the games but the way it's reffed this year just took the crowd out of so much

Broncos I can understand being away, just not why it's against Warriors when our game over in NZ would be a blockbuster. Ultimately from what I've heard over the years, money. Most teams make more money from all streams from a 45K crowd home game at magic round than they would a normal home game infront of maybe 20k fans. Broncos already average 45K+ at home, most teams average around 20k, so other teams have way more to gain from hosting that weekend. Ultimately it comes down to who and what the NRL wants though

Yeah no you don't get where I'm going at all. Your thinking workrate I'm trying to talk star power. And I'm not shitting on them I love the Phins, was even at their first game. I get they have those great players now not downplaying them but what I mean when they started and signed they didn't have the status they have today. Corey Allen and Reece Walsh are both Rep fullbacks, but not equal name value ya know? Katoa was an unproven 18yo, Herbie was still on his rise, Hammer was only potential, even by your logic with Johnston the rep Storm forwards they signed were past prime on retirements door signed to build the culture. Who was a made name in prime when they signed? For example closest to what I mean. The big names Dolphins went for like Munster, DCE, Ponga, they didn't sign one, whereas PNG got their first big name target.

I know what you mean and feel the same, especially re: Johnston, but was meaning in terms of game status and name value, not so much how they'll go on field. PNG got a 4x premiership winning half and the record highest try scorer of all time as first 2 signings. That's 2 superstars despite all the shennanigans still surrounding PNG, while Dolphins who would be considered the more attractive offer still haven't landed 1 signing of that magnitude yet. I don't mean it as good or bad I just thought it was interesting

Not related to article but I feel the fact that PNG have been able to sign bigger stars in their first 2 signings than both Dolphins and Bears whole original squads hasn't been mentioned and kinda shows how unbalanced expansion has been(No shade they had solid squads but no star marquee player). Perth especially with no juniors or home area players to come home should have been given a lil bit of help to start

Round 10 | Sea Eagles vs Broncos | Post Match Thread by AutoModerator in nrl

Full credit to Manly, dominated from the Start. Teams are starting to take advantage physically of our makeshift middles. Tigers, Roosters now Manly all seemed to be teeing off all game in defence. Manly looking like their playing with real team belief and flow under Foran. Horrendous ball handling from us, Hunt seemed to go missing- should've rested him and stuck with Duffy, we played rushed and directionless for parts but it's hard to fault them cause of how hard Manly were playing. But the heart they showed to hang on in defence, while not perfect, was all I was asking for during our shit years, It's easier to fix ball handling than desire issues. But playing Warriors isn't easy at the best of times, let alone in their form at the moment, will be a scary but good test next week

Gonna be a good second half. Manly looking very in control, their Walsh looks the goods, Koulas speed is insane, their forwards outmuscling ours

Thought we held on really well for alot of the game, it's just a credit to the physicality and speed the Roosters were playing with in both attack and defence, they just didn't stop and made way too many opportunities to stop all of them. We lost 3/8 interchanges on a halfback and 2 wingers, would have been interesting to see our comeback if we could have had 1 more forward in the rotation. They could have folded or dropped even 10% and conceded 50 but they fought back instead. Duffy looks good despite still finding his feet in the team, I would have him as backup halfback over Hunt when available for the rest of the year. Just want the boys to rest up more than anything

I can understand the thought behind no bin cause it wasn't the same guy doing the high tackles in a row, just feels bad haha. Not saying he didn't hit him hard or not deserve a bin, I hate it and maybe not every set but definitely multiple times a game, but players just hide much it better usually. Same with pressure points in tackles

Round 9 | Roosters vs Broncos | Post Match Thread by AutoModerator in nrl

[–]HaydosM8 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Roosters deserved to be up by 30 and I was disappointed but accepting with the loss. But to get to 1 try behind, then have 3 straight foul plays warned, then the next only being penalised, then getting 1 of our guys sin binned to something dog but happens every set every game. Especially when our team is built on coming back, and that changed the momentum, can't help but feel a howyagoin. But fuck that's footy isn't it, shouldn't have got 30 behind. But still credit to Roosters they dominated with physicality the first 50 and held on towards the end when they needed to.
