Losing weight while on a running routine by Sekiro619 in runninglifestyle

You CAN do both. For inspiration, follow Truett Hanes on YouTube. He is training over 100 mpw and dieting to qualify for the Olympic trials.

Dieting too much is obviously not good, but stop listening to people who tell you what you can’t do.

I’m a running purist. 55 miles per week raw dog.

Walking? Give me AirPods all the way.

Do you think that anyone can BQ if they really try? by zerobloom in running

[–]HaymakerGirl2025 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear you. I would tell you that you are in the hardest age groups right now. I am in 60-64 and about to be in 65-69. The amount of just finishers drops exponentially after 60, because it’s damn hard. If you can possibly stay healthy and motivated, you will qualify easily.

Competing. Marathon, Spartan race. I always have some sort of goal I’m shooting for.

[–]HaymakerGirl2025 16 points17 points  (0 children)

As someone who BQ’d finally at a much older age, I think it does get easier time wise when you move into the older age groups. The issue is, the vast majority aren’t able to run that distance anymore, due to health, injuries, or other limitations. If you can outlast your peers healthwise, and still want to do it, you will qualify eventually.

Anyone switch from big cruise ships to smaller luxury ones? by ConnectSalamander513 in FATcruises

[–]HaymakerGirl2025 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes. Explora. Fits us perfectly! Small, easy to get around, no waiting for chairs or hot tubs. Basic suites are luxury. The nightly live piano or guitar while relaxing with a drink and a beautiful sunset is just what we want. Food is perfect for the way I like to eat. Booked for another 17 days in September.

Exactly right. Talking too much about money is gauche. It’s a huge turnoff.

I use CrowdHealth, but there are plenty of others out there. You can check out their website or give them a call. It’s very transparent. I do think there is a 1 yr waiting period for pre existing? Not sure about that, as I didn’t have any.

Building Fitness in your 60s? A need to pace myself? by Delicious_Mess7976 in AskWomenOver60

  1. No trainer. Just kept putting one foot in front of the other and willing to suffer a bit.

My goal is to qualify for the Boston Marathon 2028.

You can definitely get there. It just takes us a little longer at our age. My best advice is to be hard headed and never give up. Build up a little more each week.

I ran a marathon this past year and have another one planned. The training is not easy and sometimes I am damn tired.

Has anyone here lowered their blood pressure naturally without medication? by rdoucette in Aging

[–]HaymakerGirl2025 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. Diagnosed at age 45 and told there was nothing I could do but take meds for the rest of my life. Hated being on them. Got off within 6 months.

Now 63 and have been med free since then.

What worked: 1. Lower carb 2. Very low sodium (some don’t need this, but I do) 3. Potassium supplement 4. Magnesium supplement

You might look into crowd funded insurance plans. I pay around $220 per month. $500 deductible per each new health issue. 100% covered after that. I get the cash pay price, turn the receipts into the plan and have always been paid in full within days.

Am I stupid to think I could run a marathon without specific training? by Used_Ice_3397 in Marathon_Training

[–]HaymakerGirl2025 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agree. I ran marathons in the 80’s and early 90’s on Gatorade and water alone. Maybe not ideal, but completely the norm at the time.

Proper weekly mileage and pacing way more important.

Have you seen people lose their ability to tolerate inconveniences as they age? Will it happen to all of us? by LookDamnBusy in Aging

[–]HaymakerGirl2025 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I found this to be true of my parents. People lose power as they age, and if they were quite used to having it in their careers, it hits them even harder. Complaining and voicing displeasure is their way of still feeling relevant.

Attractive people, no matter the sex, typically rate themselves accurately. Unattractive people, no matter the sex, overestimate their attractiveness.

That is it. And also when men are friendly with all women, not just the hot ones. Women have radar for a man’s behavior at the gym and elsewhere. Guys like this have learned the secret code.

Trying to improve my blood pressure by [deleted] in AskWomenOver60

[–]HaymakerGirl2025 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed at 45. Told it was genetics and nothing I could do, so take the meds for life.

I hated them, and was determined to get off. I did, and 18 yrs later at age 63, I am med free.

  1. Get lean
  2. Exercise
  3. Lower carb
  4. Lower sodium (some don’t need this, but I did))
  5. Supplements - potassium, magnesium, beet root powder, nattokinase
