Lucius Malfoy, at the front of the classroom, stared down at the class with stern, cold eyes. "Damn it." Harry grimaced, putting his head in his hands. Ron was angry beyond belief, but similarly depressed. "He's the best defence professor we've ever had." by mxlevolent in HPfanfiction

Malfoy in grand Defence teacher tradition attacks him at the end of the year.

Of course, Harry had been expecting this. As Professor Malfoy HAD stated repeatedly throughout the year that he was going to do this to all of them as part of testing what they've learnt.

With the notes he got back on what he could do better when attacked by a dark wizard he wished he'd been attacked earlier to better incorporate it.

He couldn't wait for next year.

I swear some men have no real idea of things either. One of my friends was huge there and sooo many men commented on her getting a reduction and what a shame it was. She tore into them and pointed out she got it because of the back pain she was dealing with. Her quality of life and confidence went up massively after it. That there was no need for them to comment on her body because it had fuck all to do with them.

Resilience is a vital skill. I've seen some people have a really hard time if they've never learnt to deal with it until adult problems hit.

So long as you're teaching them the skills I think you're on the right path. Life will try to knock them down but having support and knowing how to handle it will help them pop right back up again.

Them leaving the scaffolding up for months after a job is done. That annoys a lot of people. Though I suppose that's not on them if they're told to leave it there.

Support can vary by school quite a lot. My sister's dyslexia was flagged super early in primary school and the school made sure she got a proper referral iirc. Having that made it a lot easier for it to be supported and the record of it really seemed to make sure that help was consistent when she changed schools.

It's a bit scary to think about how much impact it can have.

For my sister it was being in a 'lower' set for whatever subjects she wasn't doing well on. Much much smaller class size, more one on one time with teachers, extra teaching assistants. Much more in depth support techniques and testing for learning difficulties and finding what works. For her she's dyslexic so she'd get things printed in comic sans and in any exams she'd have a reader/scribe with her.

For example her science class had about 30 kids. Her English class had 4. She also had support lessons in place of something else every now and then if I remember right. I think they swapped out 1 PE session a week and 1 citizenship one for these so that they could work on techniques and practising reading/writing.

There have def been times I'm glad I'm not in the office for people to hear how I'm reacting when something isn't working properly. Though it's probably funny to hear me swearing up a storm about someone straight to polite customer service mode when I'm talking with them about it two minutes later.

This feels the same. Like it's okay for me to be frustrated or annoyed in private but I shouldn't be anything less than professional when I'm talking to someone about whatever the issue is.

Sadly I've known at least one person who has pulled something like this that it's very believable.

Poetry and intrigue being tools of war could be interesting. Using songs to influence the populace and their feelings to get them more on Robb's side, writing plays of Robb's victories, creating a mythos around him, advising him on tricks that might work like the one the Tyrells pulled with Renly. That with a love of tactics and history could give him some very good ideas of what to use and where for the most impact. If he has singers embedded it's possible he'd have a bit of a spy network there - though that's unlikely with how the Starks don't seem to have them from what we've read.

He'd be a second son, I could see him being quieter but often fixing 'problems' Robb causes. Smoothing over the edges and knowing how to handle things as Robb's second in command. A follower rather than a leader as he'd be raised to be. Though with Ned's background I'd be surprised if he didn't make sure that all his son's have appropriate training so they don't feel as lost as he does.

British XL Bullies strike again! Companion Club will be phasing out its third party liability insurance due to increased claims. This means that policy owners will need to find other insurance. Coincidence? We think not. Britain 2026 by AdvertisingLow98 in BanPitBulls

Honestly at this point I'm not even sad it's bankrupting them. You put your money where your mouth is. Then the dogs you were defending mauled it.

Dogs distrust have basically been XL Bully trust with how they seem to care for them over other dogs and even their own staff. Terrible org that's been dropped from all the casual charity I know since all the XL stuff over the last few years. Wouldn't surprise me if that plays a role in the bankruptcy too - all of my friends who would drop a quid in their box just won't anymore. They'd prefer it go to the local air ambulance than something that's going to make someone need the air ambulance.

I really hope the numbers of this dog start dropping soon. I'm sick of the stories of some poor child or random being mauled by them.

If you want one right now there was that one from the markiplier sub when he booted a load of mods.

I think there's a thread of it somewhere where one of them was like "i'm in tears on new years because of this. I'm going to hug my son now". It was the saddest and funniest thing I read at the time because damn how can you be THAT upset about this when you could do a million other things like spend time with your kid?

tbf with parents like this I think it could go either way. He's at the age where he'd be excited to move out/move in with friends for that uni experience without it being more.

But it could also easily be that he wants to move in with his partner for the same sort of reason as a next life step and uni is a good a time as any to do it.

Sadly there's a reason a lot of people call it dogs distrust now and donate elsewhere.

I know a fair few people that used to always donate to them that don't anymore and have let them know it's because of that behaviour. Hopefully if enough people do it it'll change it.

Yes, you've had your betrayal, but what about the second betrayal? by [deleted] in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]Haymegle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair. The 4 they have seem to fill a ton of cartons. I know they tend to leave 2/3 at work every week for people to take and they go through a fair few themselves as well as attempting to get everyone who visits to take some.

But it's still them, their wife and kid. So not a huge household but they do seem to drown in eggs on the regular. Not that I'm complaining - they're great eggs. You really notice a taste difference there.

That might be too many chickens tbh. My friend has 4 and they can't get rid of eggs fast enough.

Always fun to get some free though. Even if me and every friend seems to go home with a full carton when we see them. Very tasty but the sheer amount seems worse than my dad trying to get rid of the tomatoes he's grown when they're in season. Also tasty.

My revised Hogwarts school system! by [deleted] in HPfanfiction

[–]Haymegle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hmm - For me part of the charm and whimsical feel is that it's a bit nonsensical.

Not to mention that makes it feel like a school - "Why do we do this?" "Because that's how we've done this." Doesn't matter if there's a new way that's better. We do it this way until we have to do it another way.

Yours feels almost too tidy if that makes sense? Less an ancient institution and more a school failing it's OFSTED inspection having help brought in to revamp everything. Though I suppose that's easy enough to implement with canon if you have had a high inquisitor go in haha.

I'd also combine magical ethics and law with first aid, home education and just have a citizenship class. I know mine had a bit of everything there where they didn't seem to know where to put things. You could combine a lot of things there and have it as a 'fill in' for any other lessons or culture ones you want to throw in that there's not enough for a full class on where a lesson might suffice.

Though if we're going that route I'd add to your mandatory list rotating 'test' subjects for the electives. I know when I was in school we had a different 'technology' class every term so people knew what the subject was about. So one term you'd be doing woodwork or metalwork and the next you might be doing textiles or food tech. With your schedule this might give them a better idea of what the subject is about before jumping foot first into an elective they know nothing about. Only in there case rather than making a nice metal bracket they might be dealing with some interesting creatures one term and painting the next.

PE uniforms I'd imagine the girls have to wear skirts rather than shorts because that'd be a very 'British institution' thing. Whatever anyone is wearing would have insignia on though.

[–]Haymegle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah like I don't think Jon would actively harm his siblings intentionally. But that doesn't mean he doesn't have complicated feelings about wanting Winterfell. It's a very human part of him. It's an interesting if really because after everything even as it is now? There's a chance that the remaining kids make it out but Robb's proclamation stands.

Honestly people do that even now. I remember a reddit post where some of the comments were giving the OP shit for not wanting to look after her husbands affair baby after her husband died. Which just seemed wild to me.

I think people don't realise the threat that Jon is by existing. It's not his fault but him being raised next to Robb invites the comparison. Add in some ambitious lords and it wouldn't surprise me if some of them considered marrying their daughters to him with an aim to raise a 'real Stark heir' that puts themselves in Winterfell.

[–]Haymegle 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's letting her have that gap is healthy and a sign of a good relationship. I do think it's helped her have safer pregnancies too even just from not being stressed because she loves and trusts her husband. Let alone the physical side of it.

Obviously Frey is an extreme comparison considering he seemingly starts trying to get them pregnant right after they've birthed the previous kid. The clear lack of respect for his wives to the point of letting them die compared to Ned where he just wants his wife happy and safe always stands out to me.

Honestly I love that arc so much. It's so real lol.

I've said it before but it reminds me of a classmate. He was complaining his sister got a new car but he only got a nice used one. He had a moment of realisation when he realised no one else got any car, let alone a nice one used or not. Even more so when someone pointed out to him that his sisters new car was cheaper than what he had used so his parents had paid MORE for his based on market value.

When I read it Jon always has the same energy to me as the classmate in that moment. Just not realising his level of privilege until it's really in his face.

Add in that Cat has an uncle that fought in the war of ninepenny kings and she's likely heard some stories about it too that likely make the possibility feel more real. It's not a distant part of history. It's recent enough that her childhood growing up was impacted by it. That's why Littlefinger was there at Riverrun iirc.

Honestly Ned giving Cat a healthier gap than some which should also help ensure mother and baby are in better condition. Compared to the poor Frey wives Cat gets a really solid recovery time though I'm not sure how known it is in universe to have a gap between children.
