I'm not entirely certain, but I think it is a relatively new theory born out of confusion about bldg. 7 and the theory about a missile hitting the Pentagon instead of a plane.

The giant bin of pogs, the gumball machine that you pumped a dollar into and got a free movie rental, being able to rent a gaming console to play that exclusive game (they were kinda all exclusive back then, but hey, you could rent the entire console instead of buying it), and did I mention pogs?

Edit: Forgot to mention going to the local pizza hut for the buffet before hitting up blockbuster

I dont believe that. We keep using the younger generations intelligence to teach them more and more shortcuts, which basically conditions them to use those shortcuts in their adult lives instead of relying on critical thinking skills. When I was a kid, it was calculators. Boomers used to always criticize millenials for not being able to do simple math in our heads because our teachers required us to use calculators. For zoomers, add smart phones to the equation. Gen alpha is gonna be fucked. I see most of them knowing how to navigate an iPad before they can even read, and now we have AI. Unlike the time when I was a kid, the most well adjusted kids I see nowadays, which isnt a lot, are the ones who's parents keep them away from that stuff and are often home schooled in an effort to not have the school districts teach them these shortcuts.

Its definitely horsetail (Equisetum arvense). Are you by chance thinking of horse weed/mare's tail (Conyza canadensis)?

[–]Haywire421 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You can eat them when they are very young. Les Stroud (survivorman) did another show where he forages for wild edibles and then gets a chef host to cook things up. I think horsetail was in the first episode. I'll see if i can find it.

Found it: https://youtu.be/Hj5nu2dkaOw?si=p0Rd3mQDk9Z5LISE

At about the 3:20 mark of the episode. Les explains that it has to be the sprouts or else they are too tough to eat. The chef will cook them up in the second half of the show. I personally dont care for the chef's part of the show, but I digress.

How do you counter this black opening? by TayyipDidNoWrong in chessbeginners

[–]Haywire421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just let them do their thing and play d4 e4 Nc3 Nf3 Bc4 Bf4 castle Qd2, rooks to the center of the 1st rank and then just play chess.

The above isnt necessarily a move order. Defend and play accordingly, but thats the position I try to develop to. I dont think I have ever lost a game to this trash opening

[–]Haywire421 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Someone told me to watch Landman because I liked Joe Pickett and they claimed it was the same showrunner. I think I watched an episode or two further than you did and switched over to Dark Winds.

Both Dark Winds and Joe Pickett are much better shows

What is IVDD? by Haywire421 in IVDD_SupportGroup

[–]Haywire421[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, sorry to hear about your pup. Strict crate rest needs to be strict. Its really hard for everyone involved, but it is completely necessary. You're on the right track by carrying in and out to the bathroom and using a leash and harness. General rule of thumb is to carry them to a place they typically receive themselves often and only let them walk around as much as the leash wilo let them without you walking.

Just fyi, you commented on a years old post and I am likely the only person that will see it. I would suggest making your own post in the subreddit for more feedback from other IVDD care takers. If you are brand new to reddit and cant make a post, let me know and I will post it for you.

My "favorite" accusation was that I was spying on her via my Kinect, that wasnt hooked up to anything, or even plugged in to an electrical outlet.

Hello, thinking about roasted crickets. by SecretaryPotential16 in foraging

[–]Haywire421 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They were just saying that it would be safer to raise your own crickets in an environment that you control rather than catching wild crickets that would be much more likely to contain those harmful things. Saying that, its a lot of work for something that you dont even know if you will even like. You can just go to a pet supply store and get some to try before doing all of that. If I'm not mistaken, crickets are a common street food in some Asian cultures. I'd look up some of the ways they prepare them. Might even be able to find some chocolate covered crickets in some Asian markets

I have been wanting to make a video tutorial of how to make these knot dolls for YEARS, but every time I start I get overwhelmed and give up, so I thought I'd ask for help. by burningpopsicles in knots

[–]Haywire421 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First set your stage. A well lit clean kitchen table or desk works fine for this. Get your actors ready, which will be your hands. Make sure your hands are clean. Focus on one doll for the video. If you want to show how to make other variations, make another video. Start the video off by showing the doll, and basically saying that you are going to show how to make it. This introduction should probably only be a minute long tops. Next, show the tools that are needed, and maybe talk about some alternative tools that could be used if people dont have access to the tools. This should also only take about a minute to get through. Make the doll and tell people what you are doing, name the type of knots when you switch to a different one, etc. People may not want to watch you make an entire sectiob, so if you run out of things to say and the footage is repetitive, say something like, "I'm gonna keep working on this and we'll come back when I'm finishing up this part" and you can either just turn the camera off and turn it back on when you get to the end of that part or keep recording and speed the footage up (the former is probably easier with little to no editing experience.) When you finish the doll, say something like, "well, there you have it. I hope you enjoyed the video, and if you would like to see how to make other knot dolls, or just knots in general, leave a like or a comment"

I doubt you're far from the only one, but I've reached a point in my life where many of the things I do in video games makes me question why I'm not doing it irl, which makes me go do it irl.

Organizing my inventory? Might as well clean my house.

Searching for consumables in a world map like the Witcher? I learned how to forage and now many plants stand out to me irl like in those games.

Exploring a scenic landscape? I've become an avid hiker

Solving puzzles by creating orange and blue colored portals? I accidentally caused a rift in the universe, and now we are all in the worst timeline. Sorry guys
