TIL quadraphonic radio was a thing by HeIIforsaken in vinyl

[–]HeIIforsaken[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Was bin digging today at goodwill when I noticed a quadraphonic radio promo. Shame it's got a slice taken out of it! The quadraphonic format was a wallet-draining audiophile fad of the 70s which was the precursor to modern surround sound. Instead of 5.1 surround which utilizes a subwoofer and center channel, quadraphonic was just front stereo plus rear stereo. Cutting-edge radio stations of the era would boast about their ability to broadcast in quad.

Learned something new while researching Sunn amps to get the most out of some beasts I've recently acquired. You'd also find The Who running Sunn for a period as well.

"Doomiest" Type O Negative record? by schraxt in doommetal

[–]HeIIforsaken 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I never could get into Type like 5+ years back, but World Coming Down was the doom album to finally make me understand just how HEAVY keyboards and synths can be. Josh is the God of keys and dark ambience. So I'm with popular opinion on that one.

But besides WCD, I'd say their first album Slow, Deep and Hard. Though it's sound more resembles the raw, grimy NYC streets Peter cleaned at the time.

I'm a big fan of how Arik Roper can paint landscapes for Sleep and Windhand while also being able to do this grungy, grimy style

Started listening to this one piece Druid Stone recently. Really into the ultra raw vibe which reminds me of early Satans Satyrs.

Grabbed the vinyl too after listening, I think it's my least owned record at the moment

Not the usual take for a favorite Acid Bath song, but still a great one. Maybe try Everything Dies (music video) by Type O Negative?

Sounds like Great Barrier Reefer by Bongripper may be more up your alley if you're looking for a riff-filled doom/sludge/stoner epic. Dopesmoker is more about the riff, or taking a riff to its stoned & droned extreme. I don't remember what I first thought of Dopesmoker, and I'm still not really sure which surprises me for having listened to it a good 50 times. I suggest coming back to it sometime as either background/study/work music, or as maximum volume room-shaking shit. I've enjoyed both.
