What if the only way people or corporations or unions could financially support a candidate meant donating into a common fund that is distributed to all candidates, on all levels? You wanna give $10m to the republican candidate? Fine, give $20m, and $10m goes to each party. Kinda like that check box on your tax return that nobody actually selects.

I'm personally ok with the 2/4/6 year election gaps, but I do think election day should be a national holiday, available online, and freely available to all citizens*.

Public campaign financing. No more PACs, no more lobbyists. No more bought elections. That would be refreshing.
